Description
Young Onset Dementia (YOD) defined as the onset of dementia before the age of 65 years is increasingly recognised as an important clinical and social problem with devastating consequences for the patients and those who care for them. Accessing age appropriate information and services for young people with the early onset of dementia is limited and this has been concluded through our experience of working with this particular area of dementia.
Ideally, this app can be presented to patient and carers at the time of diagnosis so that in their own time, patient and family members can use guidance to help them to manage all aspects of their life and more importantly signpost them to an array of services and organisations that provide specialist support and information, locally, regionally and nationally. Signposting within the service directory section is categorised, such as; finances, transport, employment, living well, relationships, etc. with contact details for these resources and links to websites such as Alzheimer’s society and YoungDementia UK.
The YOD app benefits patients and families, carers and health professionals too. The app aims to empower patients and carers with access to appropriate information, knowledge and support following diagnosis.
