Listener2956,
Frustrating App
I am considered the tech-savvy one in the family. I figured I should jump over to the streaming version of TV because of the promotion. It’s very tedious to change between channels. Perhaps a fix would be to institute a number pad within the app so we can type in the channel. We are unable to go to the previous channel with ease. If I’m trying to watch between a lower and higher end channel, I have to scroll through the entire spectrum. Several times the channel froze. I have to get out of the app and return and sometimes have to restart the Apple TV to remedy the problem. I repost as I try the other features.
Far North Mama,
Not Senior Friendly!
Created account for my elderly mother, for whom I manage all things electric or electronic. I know how to use an Apple TV and other streaming devices. This app is not user friendly. I suspect there are prompts on the screen which may be beyond the view due to television size and screen settings 9thought that’s not obvious when using a tablet either.) You can’t just type in channel XX and go to it. You have to swipe through the entire guide to try to get the channel you want. Once you do that, the app may freeze and then you have to go out to a main menu to determine where you are in the app. And then you start all over again, or you wait until it unfreezes and allows you to complete selections. There is no information/manual that explains the steps to access anything. Now, if I can’t figure it out, imagine an elderly consumer...who doesn’t understand the concept of “streaming.” This will just not work for that demographic. What’s next GCI? Guess you’ll be losing a market segment.
GrandpawG,
Worst TV ever!
If I could rate it -10, that's what I give it. Most frustrating service ever. Customer service is telephone 3 hrs wait and from the Philippines with not very good English. After six weeks a technician came and found 3 problems, 1 software configuration and 2 physical cable connection problems and it seems to at least work on the TV. However it won't work on my iPad at all, though it does seems to work on my iPhone. I've been a faithful GCI tv, cell and internet customer for over 20 years. But this last 6 weeks stinks!!!! Paying way too much for TV now because they don't reduce price but require you to buy more Internet bandwidth to use streaming TV. Alaska we need competition, monopolies enable predatory pricing like GCI.
Dajuror,
Useless
The app, and Yukon TV in general are absolutely terrible. I cannot begin to count the number of times I have had to reset Apple TV or reset the app or re-login as many as six times a day. disconnect things and reconnect things just to get them to work. then let’s not forget, logging into and purchasing every single plan. I particularly love taking five minutes out of my day to scroll up and down for the local channels and the premium channels. That’s a smart move. let’s not forget about the buffering. What frustration wouldn’t be complete without a little buffering, right… but not a little like all the time every time you change channels.
SwuLu4,
Extremely Dissapointing
I know there was at least 6+ months of beta testing before I started using this app and the amount of issues is inexcusable. I still have my original box and can compare & see that shows set to record are not appearing on Yukon after a recording is set. When looking for current programs they don’t appear in the search but are in the guide and Yukon doesn’t allow you to set a single episode to record. Also there is no way to edit a series record, you have to delete it entirely and restart. Using my box till I have to hand it in next month and then probably dropping the service.
ZyngaSnerd,
Sad
Horrible user interface (using Apple TV version), rife with internal inconsistencies such as different cursor colors and selection behaviors on various screens. The service overall is slow, cumbersome, buggy. Often completely dysfunctional for hours at a time even nearly a year after it’s initial release. When it does work the image quality is poor. Perhaps excessive data compression is being employed since the data used by this app is not being counted in usage limitations. Perhaps intentionally poor in order to drive customers to better service which consume billable bandwidth.
tucker in ak,
Still awful
Every. Single. Day. We have to unplug the TV or fire stick because of some error or it freezes up continually. Getting error messages like playback error while watching LIVE TV. I haven’t ever even tried to record a show. Getting tech support is non existent. They have me repeat the steps I have already done and tell me to call back if it continues. My elderly MIL can’t navigate and has no idea what to do. This is an awful product, the bugs should be worked out by now. We have had GCI for our home and business and when the business contract is over so are we.
DoesEveryoneHaveToHave_a_Nick,
Terrible experience
Just terrible, like everything else that comes from GCI. Casting doesn’t work. If you try to cast (you can only access it in full screen) the video stops, you are taken out of full screen and the program you were watching goes black. You can’t watch anything until you change the channel. GCI doesn’t have an app for Samsung smart TV, so you either buy an Apple TV (where the interface is terrible as well) or they give it to you and lock you in a 2-year contract. Stay away.
Salmon907,
Live TV, Updated
It does take some getting used to if you are a long time cable TV user, but the new features are quite smart and overall it is definitely an improved experience. Love that you can now rewind a show even if you’ve only just jumped to the channel!
Akplanner,
Keeps going back to beginning
I’m trying to watch a World Cup soccer game, but the app jumps the game back to the beginning with no way to fast forward. I have to change the channel and the go back to the original channel. I’ll get live action for about 10 seconds, and then it will jump back to the beginning. This happens over and over and over and over. So frustrating! This has also happened on the TV, but not nearly so frequently. We are so frustrated with Yukon TV!
