Description

1000 Miles is based on a French card game. It is simple to learn and play, even for children, and is very addictive. You need to think ahead and watch your opponent's moves to maximise your score though.

The premise of the game is that you are in a car race. Each hand is either 700 or 1000 miles long, with the first player to reach 700 miles having the option to extend the race to 1000 miles.

The game uses a special deck of cards which includes distance, hazard, remedy and safety cards. Hazards are played to slow or stop your opponent's progress. Remedies are played to remove hazards applied by your opponent and safeties are used to prevent hazards.

FEATURES

2018-10-20
• It will now be easier to double tap cards to play them.
• In single player mode, you and the AI will now take turns at going first at the start of each hand.
• In an earlier update, the scoring was changed so that the bonus for all four safeties was 300 instead of 700. This is now properly reflected on the score screen.
• Achievements based on scores have been adjusted downwards by 400 to reflect the above change. It should now be possible to get a perfect score!
• Various multiplayer fixes.

Minor bug fix for iPhone multiplayer UI.

2018-05-01
• Coup fourrés are now always correctly awarded when you play the ambulance card just after a speed limit card has been played. Previously, they were not awarded if you had a red light in play at the same time.
• If you have the ambulance card on the table when you play a fix card on your battle pile, the top card of the battle pile will change to a green light so that it is obvious that you can move.
• In conformity with the rules in Mille Bornes, when you play all four safety cards in a single hand, you will now only receive 300 points in addition to the 400 points from playing the safety cards instead of an additional 700 points.
• The "Buy full version" button on the main screen will change to say "Restore purchases" if you have unlocked the full version. In both cases the button will still take you to another screen to complete the transaction.
* Added a new sound for when a speed limit is played.

Added greater support for VoiceOver, including that cards now speak their names when tapped. The help text and card hints text also now works correctly with VoiceOver.
Please note that with VoiceOver on, you need to double-tap a card (or hold and tap with another finger) to get the card hint to appear and you need to triple-tap (or hold and double-tap with another finger) to play a card.

Decent version of Millie Bournes
Game is nice, but needs IMPROVEMENTS. You should be able to draw off the discard stack like in the real card game.
Once you’re out of cards it doesn’t reshuffle the discard stack the game is just DONE. You have to get EXACTLY 700 or 1000 - no cards to put you over that number- which I guess isn’t a huge issue but the actual game doesn’t require such strict math.
In the true game the green light isn’t needed each time after each obstacle; once it’s fixed you’re back on the road. Seems like an unnecessary extra step, especially when they are so rigid with the cards, don’t reshuffle and you can’t pull from the discard stack.
In multiplayer mode there needs to be an opponent TURN TIMER; I’ve gone into so many games with randomly matched opponents and they take 30 minutes to HOURS to take their turn if at all and I end up forfeiting just to get out of the game.
Otherwise the game is good, just wish these improvements were on the way to make it awesome.
Tremolux66,
Nice, but needs work
The current version does fix some issues, but there is still at least one obvious bug, as mentioned by another reviewer: when you play a Safety card in single-player mode, there should be an automatic Go, i.e., the top card should turn into a green light. Currently it seems to do that only when you’ve scored a coup fourré, and I’ve accidentally discarded miles cards b/c it was waiting for a Go. Also, it would be helpful if there were some indication of the number of 200-mile cards that have been played; I haven’t seen any. (On an iPhone screen there clearly isn’t enough room to display all the mileage & Safety cards that you’ve played, but a small 200-mi. counter could be squeezed in.) And although double-tapping generally simplifies and speeds up play, I’ve gotten into the habit of double-tapping cards I wish to discard, which works fine when the card is unplayable (i.e., most of the time) but I sometimes accidentally play a card I meant to discard. There doesn’t seem to be an obvious way for the program to know the player’s intent; perhaps another gesture could be added that always means “discard”. (Desktop implementations of the game have the luxury of a second mouse button for that purpose.)
MidnightPearl,
One-player game does not seem random
I always play the one-player game. The other “player” gets a tremendous amount of speed limit cards. I have to hold on to at least 3 end of limit cards per hand, or I will be stuck every time. And, I rarely get an end of limit card. Plus, on the rare occasions that I get multiple red lights, the other “player” just so happens to have enough green lights.

If I get too far ahead of the other “player”, they will suddenly get 3-4 safety cards all in a row.

The game is fun, just wish it were more random.

Good Little Timewaster
Read the previous reviews and it appears that most of the bugs referenced earlier have been addressed. I’ve played around 150 games against the computer and regularly get Safety Cards, Coup Fourres, etc., but I have noticed a couple of things. They’re relatively minor but irritating: #1 - Around 90% of the time the computer starts out immediately with a Go/Roll card. #2 - The computer gets the Right of Way (most important card in the deck) around 60-70% of the time, and #3 - Most of the time the computer has an immediate Remedy card after I play a Hazard card. I still win probably 80% of the games so it’s not like the computer is obviously cheating, so I’ll recommend this game as I do enjoy playing it two or three quick games when I’m bored.
great_dano,
Love it !!
This is a great ! Game ! Very well done and spot on to the card game.

I remember playing this game years ago, I recently bought it again, after reading the rules, a couple of times over, I learned that the discard pile is just that , a Discard pile !
The complaint others had about not being able to draw from it, isn’t possible in the card game… maybe in some “house rules” but not in the printed ones.
The other comment about having to get to exactly 700 or 1000 is also in the original rules ! Yes it’s that exact math! Again, maybe in “house rules”
The complaint about needing to play a green light after clearing the problem played on you….. yes ! another green light is necessary as per the rules ! Once again, “house rules” I suspect to make it easier for younger players.
There is a bonus score for completing the trip after all the cards have been played. So, reshuffling isn’t possible either.
This is a great digital version of that card game !
Well Done !
Malafisto,
Pretty good with one key layout issue
I enjoyed playing this game as a kid and I'm excited to see it in an app. For the reviews that say they deck does not shuffle at the end, that's the point that's how the game is played once the cards are gone they're gone. They sound effects on this are pretty annoying even if they are appropriate. I've taken to playing it with the sound off. The main layout issue i have is the discard pile is right below your distance pile and I've lost more than one game accidentally putting my miles just short of their spot. Because of that issue i only play the free version, I'd get overly frustrated paying for a game that lets me inadvertently destroy myself.

Fun but Frustrating
This game is addicting but the discard pile seems to have no reason to it, when you’re taking new cards some of them just go to the discard pile even when you have an open slot, and many times it’s the exact card you need to overcome a hazard card. So then you just sit. I just played a game where the one card I needed randomly went to the discard pile FOUR times, even though I had an open slot. And then the hand ends because the cards have run out and it doesn’t shuffle and let the game continue. I have looked through the rules thoroughly and there is no explanation for this! Also the Right of Way card goes to the AI player way more often.
tcsdoc,
Decent but with issues
This is not a bad version of Millebournes but I wish the developer would fix some obvious bugs in the single player mode.
1. When you play a Safety card, the top card should change to a Green light card. It doesn’t. This makes it difficult to see if the opponent (or yourself) can play a card. This is a glaring bug that should have been corrected years ago.
2. Many times, I’ve received a Hazard card and played a Hazard on the opponent then played a Safety card and got bonus credit for playing the Safety card. To get the bonus, you must play the Safety card immediately after being hit with a Hazard.
3. AI needs improvement. The opponent will continue past 700 without the points to make it to 1000. Why extend if you get more points by ending the round? Plays Hazards when it’s obvious this late in the game I have Safety cards. Not a smart move.

This game needs some attention.
Tarafair,
Fun game
I am having a lot of fun with this game. I don’t know if you meant to but I sure do appreciate the fact that somehow you made this game accessible with voiceover. I am blind so accessibility is a big thing for me. I love being able to play this game with my boys. I did notice one thing however, the deck does not redeal it’s self when the cards are used up. Hoping this could be fixed in a future update. Also there are a couple of accessibility things that could use tweaking but overall I am finding it easy to play.
Randall Wright,
Great version of a classic
Love this app & play it constantly. However, there is a bug that manifests itself in scoring... sometimes, the Right Of Way card will NOT coup fourré when played immediately after a hazard. This happens most often when the red light or speed limit hazard is played & the RoW is the next card drawn. However, it also happened once when a speed limit was played & the RoW was already in my hand.
