I like being told exactly what to do while working out, and how long to do it for, so I was excited to see this app while searching for strength training for runners. I am getting back into running and need something to help on the non-run days.
This app has great ideas. It lets you decide between 3 and 5 days, what level you want to start (beginner, intermediate or expert) and whether you are home are the gym. Then it plans out your exercises with a 30 second break. I thought the price was reasonable too. I started at a month for $6.99 USD with a week free trial.
The actual workout though is where I have my biggest issues. First, it has the warm up, but on the workout preview page it says do the warm up twice. On the actual workout is just says “warm up 1 round”. Also, you do a warm up for 30 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds, but your eyes have to be glued to the screen because there’s no beep to tell you it’s time to rest.
The last exercise on the warm up was a leg swing, but there was no indication on when you change legs, and after doing 30 seconds on one leg and resting it just went to the next exercise. So I went back to the video to do my other leg, then it moved on after.
The first “workout” part were bridges. The workout said 10 reps, but the example video showed was going really slow. When I tried to match the pace (with my phone in my hands over my head to not miss that rest), i got through 4 before it said to rest.
Then there was another 1 leg exercise with no indication on which leg, or how much, or reps?
After the workout videos went through 1 round it just went straight to the stretches (again, no indication on which leg or if I should switch midway through the time).
When I’m working out, I don’t have my phone constantly in my hands. Not having a beep for the rest is frustrating. But, also trying to figure out when to scroll back to get the 2nd round, and constantly going back and forth on my phone isn’t realistic.
I was really excited about this app, but I’m not even going to make it through the free trial. It has great potential, but I need easy to use, and this app is not easy to use during my work out.
