Description

Al‑Anon Family Groups is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

The Al-Anon program is based on the Twelve Steps (adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous), which we try, little by little, one day at a time, to apply to our lives, along with our slogans and the Serenity Prayer. The loving interchange of help among members and daily reading of Al-Anon literature thus make us ready to receive the priceless gift of serenity.

The official mobile app of the Al-Anon Family Groups is designed to provide an easy way for anyone affected by someone else’s drinking to find hope and help, whether they can attend a face-to-face meeting or not.

Features include:
- Al-Anon meetings powered by Zoom with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance enabled. In the app you will see this added security is identified by a green shield inside the meeting. The HIPAA compliance provides the following additional securities:
-- Disallows cloud recordings
-- Forces out of meeting chat encryption on
-- Forces encryption for 3rd party endpoints
-- Disables streaming to any service that only supports RTMP
-- Prevents copying or saving meeting chats

- An opportunity to connect with Al-Anon friends and chat privately with them
- A built-in private journal, which you can use to track your recovery
- A news feed where you can share with your Al-Anon friends what is on your mind; you can also view what’s on your friends’ minds.
- An opportunity to subscribe to a daily dose of Al-Anon members’ experience, strength, and hope.
- An opportunity to easily contribute to the World Service Office.

FloAnn,
Has potential
I think this was deployed to market before it really had any true features that would be useful out of the gate. I would like to see a bunch of features that aren’t available now: past international convention speakers, face2face meeting list, a button to submit a new zoom meeting for inclusion on the list, instructions for setting up a zoom meeting that can be included on the list, sponsor info, how long in program, daily gratitude list that can be shared, nightly inventory that can be shared, prayers, daily recovery score (points for step work, program calls, reading, journaling, recovery work with partner, etc.) that can be shared.

There are tons of far more useful recovery apps out there - I hope this one is under development for a long time to catch up.
Ayabaillie,
Amazing!
This app is very easy to use, it’s been life changing having this fellowship at my fingertips. You can join any meeting simply by clicking, and if you prefer to remain anonymous and not on camera, you have that option. I was once driving my car and feeling so upset that I had to pull over, and I actually joined a meeting while sitting in the drivers seat. I’ve joined some meetings that have had +130 participants from all over the world, it’s incredible to know that this app is connecting people globally. I rate this app a 10/10 and highly recommend to anyone looking for some semblance of hope and serenity - life is too short and complicated, this app and the participants will help make some of life’s challenges seem less impossible. I managed to convince my mom to try it - she is the opposite of tech savvy - and now she’s been to 30 mtgs in 30 days and is loving it!
Eyeless Fish,
Thank you
This app is a Godsend. I am blind and disabled, so attending any face-to-face meetings is impossible. I can hop on this app, and find a meeting almost any time of day, and I appreciate that a lot. It helps. In fact, I’ve been a member of Al-Anon for over a year because of this app. Thank you. The one thing I wish is that there was a way for people who can’t afford a subscription to get the premium content. I would love to subscribe, but I can’t afford it. Because I’m on a fixed income. I hope someday there will be a way for those of us who can’t afford the premium content to get it. But, I love that the main features of this app are free. Thank you for all the good work you’re doing, and keep it up.
everyday Americans,
This app changed my life - yay Al-Anon
This app is so full of information but better yet digital Al-Anon meetings. there are so many meetings to choose from and times that you can find a meeting almost every waking moment seven days a week. I love to skip around outside of my home group just to get perspective and it is awesome.
I joined six months ago and my whole life has turned around. Not much of my situation has changed but I have changed and I have watched others change so if you have an alcoholic in your life, give this app a chance. I love the beginner meetings for those of us unfamiliar with Al-Anon and the one thing about it it’s a safe place to share and there is no criticism or judgment here.
Samariah03,
Need help …
I love this app and the meetings. It has saved me. Thank you!
And suggestion: it would be great to have under Premium Content, the 3 daily reader entries each day. That way us subscribers can have access to them all day no matter where we are without our books 😊🙏

Help: I’ve been trying to make a post on the timelines and I have no idea how to do that 🤔 I’ve looked everywhere. The only thing I see is the Journal Entry button. That works for me to make a private journal entry but I cannot seem to post to friends or public (everyone). I searched under FAQ and did not find an answer…..so I’m asking here. Thanks 🙏
RoseyRunner326,
Enjoying it but there’s room for improvement
I like this app, and enjoy the app meetings. I do think there is a lot of room for improvement though. I’d really love to be able to find in person meetings within the app, purchase literature, track recovery milestones, and how many in app meetings I’ve attended (with option to manually add in person meetings), and more support for finding a sponsor.

I realize it’s a young app, and am looking forward to some added features in the future.
Gardezbien,
Excited!
This app looks great. I am not sure how to use it yet.. but I’ll learn . The only downside I see .. is it’s light on the meetings list . But I have to say I am impressed. It’s an amazing start and seems really great for alateens ( finally found some meetings easily ) I am thrilled and hope WSO continues bringing this to us. The need for online meetings such as zoom.. I hope stays past Covid. I can attend a meeting online at any hour of the day.. without having to leave my home / wake the kids I am responsible for. Thank you.
TheLiterati,
Can’t Sign Up - Stuck in a Loop
Stuck in a loop after inputting user name and password, both in adherence to guidelines.

When I fill in the required info to create an account and check all the acknowledgment boxes (over 13, read the TOC, etc.), the app displays a dialogue box that says “Al-anon OK.” I tap OK, then tap the “Sign Up” button, then get the same dialogue box again…and again and again.

Discouraged to read that there’s no reply to emails about issues with the app, so won’t be wasting time trying to get help that way. At a time when in-person options are few, it’d be great to have access to additional resources via a reliable app.
Jessiso,
Quick tutorial
Perhaps instead of a tour of the WSO, you could give us a tour of the features and how things work in the app. There’s a lot of potential but this is so not user-friendly. What’s the “my timeline” for? How can I confirm that the person I’m selecting to be a “friend” is the correct person without any identifiers? Do you search by registered name or screen name? Why do I have to pay $20 to get content when I can open my free ODAT? All of these would be great to know. It seems you’ve been pressured to “get an app out there” before the strategy meeting. It’s a great concept, though. I hope updates make it usable.
AnonymsFan,
Unsafe and Very Buggy
This version of the app continues to be filled with bugs with some of them placing users at risk. As an example, on a completely updated iOS mobile device, the ‘blocking’ feature rarely functions thus affording bullies, those whose objective is to sell drugs, etc. to disparage and damage unchecked. The app unfortunately seems not to be maintained regularly and professionally putting many users at risk. Use with caution and given Apple has guidelines for app developers which cover these risks, this user urges the developer to either remove the app altogether or plan to maintain the thing per Apple’s guidelines.
