Description

Albums is the Apple Music player that puts you in control of your music. Whether you just want to throw on album shuffle or spend hours meticulously sorting and filtering your collection, Albums cares about your music library as much as you do.

Free Features:

QUICK SELECTION
Just press “shuffle,” scroll through a grid of album art, or browse your library to select an album, and easily skip to the next one with album-focused controls.

WIDGETS & CARPLAY
See your music on your home screen with Now Playing, Collection, and Quick Action widgets. Take it on the road with CarPlay, and pin albums and collections for easy access.

ICLOUD SYNC
iCloud sync ensures you can pick up listening where you left off across all your devices.

ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL
Albums offers robust Siri interactions and supports Dynamic Type.

Premium Tools for Power Users*:

SUBSTANTIAL STATS
Get weekly, monthly, and yearly reports looking back at your listening, and dig into the data with customizable charts.

LAST.FM COMPATIBILITY
Scrobble your listening in real-time or manually. Import your last.fm history to fill in the full picture.

MORE CUSTOMIZATION
Explore built-in Insight Collections highlighting new and unlistened albums, old favorites you haven’t heard in a while, or even music from when you were in high school. Tag albums to create collections of your own. Customize the interface to match the color of your current album’s artwork with a simple two-finger tap.

RICHER DISCOVERY
See what’s next with a release feed of Artists and Record Labels in your library. Delve into production credits from MusicBrainz and Discogs, then browse collections of Record Labels, Producers, and more.

*Requires Albums Premium

Note:
Albums optionally integrates with Apple Health. If you choose to give Albums access to your Workout history, it can create "Workout Jams" Insight Collections, which match up your listening history to your exercise history. You can enable this functionality by going to the Insights tab and tapping the settings gear next to the "Workout Jams" heading. Permission for Albums to access this data can be controlled via the Apple Health app.

- Rating iCloud Music Library items you uploaded yourself now works instead of popping up an alert telling you to send me logs because it didn’t work.
- Fixed an issue where choosing to keep the queue would restart the queue from the beginning, albeit with the album you wanted to listen to now added in.
- Fixed an issue where the now playing or collection widgets might crash if displaying generic artwork.
- Fixed an edge case where the now playing album page wouldn’t update as tracks/albums changed.
- Fixed an issue where headers for credits sections on the album Info tab might display incorrectly.
- Updates to some duplicate management and other database cleanup stuff

- There is a new “Shortcuts Gallery” section in Automation Corner, which offers pre-built automations for common actions.
- There is a new Shortcut action called "Play a Collection" that lets you choose and play any collection or Quick Action.
- If there are albums you don't want to completely hide in the app, but that you want to exclude from stats/Insights... you can do that now using tags. Choose "Exclude tag from stats" in the Actions menu on the tag's page or tap the gear icon in Library -> Statistics to choose tags to exclude.
- Added a new toggle in last.fm settings to disable scrobbling

Changes:
- If two listening reports fall on the same day, like if the first day of the week is also the first day of the month, both reports will now be displayed.
- There is now a “Show All Results” button on library searches that have more than 20 results.
- The "Play Quick Action" and "Shuffle Collection" Shortcut actions have been retired. You can use the far superior "Play a Collection" action instead.

- Added support for downloading last.fm history if you have the “hide recently played tracks” setting enabled for your last.fm account.

- Fixed an issue where the change log indicator didn’t go away after viewing the latest update's notes.
- Fixed an issue that caused incorrectly matched albums from last.fm to still show a play count/last play time even after their sessions had been matched to the correct album.
- Fixed an issue where listening to the same non-library album multiple times in a row wouldn’t count each listen as a separate session.
- Fixed an issue where a quick collection made from an insight collection wouldn’t sort correctly.
- Fixed an issue where incorrect art might be displayed for non-library albums.
- Tapping the settings tab button now correctly navigates back to the main Settings screen if you’re in a subpage.
- Per-track artwork is now correctly displayed in the MiniPlayer and on the now playing screen.
- Some crash fixes and visual tweaks for good measure To configure this, tap the settings gear in Library -> Stats, or select the “Exclude tag from Stats” action in the Actions menu when viewing a tag.
4.4.0
2022-05-16
Features:
- Two new Insight Collections: ”Yearly Top Played" collections show your most played albums of each year since you started using Albums. "Workout Jams" collections match your listening history to your Health app workout history. Head to the Insights tab to give Albums permission, and enjoy collections of albums you listened to during each type of exercise you've tracked. You can also now tap "Edit" on the Insights tab to hide sections you aren’t interested in.
- You can now long-press an individual song on a track list to bring up a menu of available actions, like viewing the artist page for any featured artists or rating it on Apple Music. To take an action on the currently playing song, long-press on the Miniplayer.
- Import your last.fm history into your Albums Listening History to include all full album plays in in-app stats. A new Insight Collection called "Forgotten Scrobbles," made up of albums you’ve scrobbled that aren’t in your library, will become available in the "Diamonds in the Rough" section. Finally, the new "Yearly Top Played" Insight Collections will reflect your listening back to the beginning of your last.fm account.

- Improvements to Listening History, including showing the tracks listened in an incomplete album, or the workout associated with a session. When viewing previous listens on an album page, you can tap a session to open that week in your play history. Also, if you are logged into last.fm, you can now show a given day on last.fm by tapping the last.fm logo.
- Head to "Automation Corner" on the settings tab to view the many options available to use Albums with Siri. Configure shortcuts to start playing collections and tagging albums. For the true automation nerds, view information about the new Albums URL Scheme you can use to write your own shortcuts to open an album, artist, or track in Albums.
- The Apple Music tab on the search screen now supports searching for Record Labels. You can also search for and subscribe to labels in the Release Feed settings by choosing “Manage Subscriptions.”
- If you only want to add some tracks from an album to your library, like in the case of a deluxe edition, you can long-press the "Add" button on an album’s page to select specific tracks."
- Long-press an album on the Listening History page to view the songs you listened to from that album during that listening session. This only works for music you listened to after installing this update, as well as for imported last.fm history.
- You can now change the sort artist of an album from its settings.
- There is a new feature in Settings- > Advanced to configure the player to always repeat the current queue.

Changes:
- Redesigned screens throughout the app, most notably album pages.

Fixes:
- There is a new image loading and caching engine, which reduces the memory footprint of the app, and increases scroll performance in image-heavy areas.
- Fixed issues leading to poor scroll performance on the Albums tab, Listening History, and in other places throughout the app.
- Fixed an issue where queues with multiple albums not in your library might behave strangely and not play correctly or support skipping to the next album.
- Fixed an issue where the “Don’t Use Device Speaker” setting only worked on devices where the language was set to English
- Fixed issues that could cause widgets to use too much memory and crash/stop updating.
- Many, many visual bug fixes.
- Many little improvements to the Cloud Sync and Cloud Queue engines.
- Much more! Check the change log in the app to see if your favorite bug was squashed.

dlangendorf,
Love the Focus of Albums
This app is like I’m back in the record store thumbing through the albums, looking at the covers, reading liner notes and then, back at home, I’m listening to the *entire* record . . . not a playlist, not some algorithm telling me what I want to hear next or off an album in my Library. I haven’t had as much fun with an app in ages — and I’ve already subscribed to support the developer. The UI is a tad rough and a bit clunky in parts — the reason for 4 and not 5 stars. Some actions are just not readily evident — long taps some places, not others, that sort of thing. Maybe when I get used to them my rating becomes 5 stars. What I really love: the collection of album covers, so I can visually browse albums and choose what I want to play ... just like I did at the record store or at home. There’s some smart intelligence built in, too, like how many times I’ve listened to an album, tags so I can organize beyond A-Z and Z-A, old favorites, new discoveries (added last 10 days, 30 days ...), anniversaries (of an album’s release). Data is provided by Discogs and MusicBrainz. All that’s missing are links to Wikipedia pages (for the ultimate in today’s “liner notes”). I’ve tried many replacement apps for Apple’s music player and none have stuck. This one just might. Big high five to developer Adam.

Useful for anyone, best for aficionados
Like Apple Music itself, this app has layers that take a while, and a desire, to discover and master. It isn’t difficult but you’ll need to be intentional. If that frustrates you, this probably isn’t your app.
In an effortless algorithmic Pandora world, Apple Music offers a treasure of approaches to learn, retain, enjoy and share your world of music. The ALBUMS app brings bird’s eye organization the Apple Music app lacks.
As many of us drifted into the single track $.99 focus of Apple Music we lost two things. First we lost the importance of albums as a whole creation. Second, like the great scene in Almost Famous with the albums under the bed, we’ve lost the ability to even remember what we have in our vast digital collections. ALBUMS restores both.
ALBUMS can be a bit quirky but I’ve rated it 5 stars in gratitude for the great work of the developer with the confidence he will continue to improve the taming of our digital music mess.
newpolluter,
Love your music again
If you have a bunch of ripped mp3s that have been gathering dust in your digital collection, this app is for your. If you want new and novel ways of exploring your library, this app is for you. If you want to add a tagging layer to Apple Music, this app is for you. In a nutshell, this app is for you! It’s awesome, and I keep coming up with new ideas for it. (Currently I’m tagging albums on own on vinyl in it.)

One feature that I would like to see implemented is tighter playback integration with the Apple Music app. I’m not sure what APIs Marvis is using to accomplish this, but to me that is the gold standard, since the everything is seamlessly in sync with the “master” Apple Music app and you can pick up where you left off in the other app, if you want to.

Does what it says on the tin
Albums. This plays albums. Your music, Apple Music, whatever. Focused on playing an album of music. But you can shuffle (if you wish). Love the listening history feature, and the focus on the album. I think I have said Album enough. Try this out - the developer is responsive, has detailed notes about changes, sends a newsletter explaining (in detail) about new features or changes to old ones. It has made my listening experience better. Give it a try, you might find it works for you, too!
cronus apoca,
Better and better
Finally somebody in this planet adds the option to pause once one album ends. This alone deserves a five star review. But Albums has much more awesome features than this. Besides it can randomly pick one album to play, this app now can also do whatever a usual music app does (except to look up lyrics). So it is now my default app for music.

The only downside is, maybe just me, that it does not feel randomly enough. Sometime I met the same album 2 or 3 times in a few days while I have 600+ albums in my library.
Henryten,
Brilliant. Really.
ALBUMS is The Answer for frustrated Apple Music users who enjoy both streaming songs AND listening to albums. It made it easier to repair my jumbled collection (thanks, iTunes!) by displaying incomplete albums. And it has nifty collections of suggested albums, like "new and unheard" or "only heard once."
I'm still discovering features and I've only had it for a short time, so I can't speak to it's reliability and robustness, but so far I'm sold on this developer's work.
IndyGregg,
The app I needed!
As an “album-based” listener managing a very large library, this app solved a lot of my issues with Apple Music. Just the ability to view playlists in “album view” mode was enough for me. But the other features and ease of use have made this my go to app for mobile listening. Very versatile, configurable, and lag free. Love it. Great job! Most of the things that may frustrate you about the iOS Music app should be alleviated by using this one.

Just what I’ve been looking for
With the vinyl resurgence, I find myself back in the album centric mode. With the new lossless options in Apple Music I wanted to get away from iTunes Match (my digitally recorded and uploaded vinyl sides) but wanted to be able to shuffle albums. This app allows me to do that the way I want with some nice pause and sort options. I can listen the way I like without having to create new manual recordings.
andrew.conkling,
Great listening experience
A really helpful and pleasant app for listening to albums of music. Makes it so much easier to listen in blocks instead of with individual songs. Lots of options and features to make it extra fun. 😎🤘 Edited to add that even more features have been added since then! I love the Insights collections in particular.

A superior music player
If you’ve accumulated a Music Library focused on complete albums or concept albums, this app is for you.

If you’d like to dive deep into details of your albums (musicians, producers, engineers, etc.), this app is for you.

If you have hundreds of albums in your library that you’ve never listened to, but would like to rediscover them, this app is for you.

If you like the thrill of randomly playing an album in your library, this app is for you.

If you’re tired of algorithmic playlists, this app is for you.

This is bar none my favorite app, I use it every single day. Made with care and attention for detail. In short, made by a true music fan. Get this app!
