1.5.15
2022-12-12
This update future-proofs some display code that doesn't appear to be causing issues in Miximum, but has caused crashes in PlayTally.
1.5.14
2022-12-09
Fixed bug with the initial state of the star rating filter.
1.5.13
2022-11-29
This update includes minor iPad UI improvements, including fixes for issues in Split View.
1.5.12
2022-09-16
Today's update improves and expands upon sorting functionality when viewing collections (albums, artists, etc.) within a mix or playlist.
1.5.11

I've seen comments that folks are having issues with mixes "just being blank". And I think this is due to an issue affecting mix refreshing when creating/editing parameters and rules. Mixes now refresh every time that pane is dismissed, so you should see all those wonderful songs every time!

Miximum is currently 65% OFF, so now is a great time to share with your friends, families and followers! All support is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

And finally, I have made a career change and I think it will finally allow me some overhead to put more effort into developing new features :)
1.5.10
2021-10-14
Fixes the display bug plaguing many iPad users.
1.5.9
2021-09-30
Sorry everyone, it's been difficult to get out updates recently. This is a pretty routine maintenance update that resolves a few iOS 15-specific issues. Most importantly the annoying swipe-to-dismiss rules bug!
1.5.8
2021-07-15
• Fixes a bug where certain rules were not working correctly in their default (newly created) state. The fix applies to rules created moving forward, but will not effect existing ones. If you have any rules that do not seem to be working correctly, specifically re-setting the predicate type (is, is not, etc.) should correct the issue.
1.5.7
2021-06-10
• New Rule: Lossless Music Only! Whoooo!
• No, I don't know how to filter for Spatial Audio yet.
1.5.6
2021-06-01
• Song duration parameter now supports minutes and seconds. Finally!!

• Miximum has always used the Crashlytics platform (originally Fabric/Twitter, then Firebase/Google) to identify the sources of crashes and stability issues. Version 1.5.6 drops this support in favour of the built-in iOS crash support which now provides most of the original benefits. This change has NOT been made because of any security or privacy issues or concerns, but it is nice to remove another potential now-mostly-redundant source of failure. You won't notice any changes. But I will; please consider enabling "Share with App Developers" in your Analytics & Improvements settings!
1.5.5
2021-05-18
This update includes expanded contextual menus for collections (Play Next and Play Later have been added to the play and shuffle controls) and a new menu for individual songs with some handy new functionality :)
1.5.4
2021-04-02
New rules:
• Include songs that are part of your library.
• Include songs that are NOT part of your library.
1.5.3
2021-03-04
• Updated Crashlytics to the latest version.
• Made some ASO updates.

Speaking of ASO, did you know that user ratings are one of the biggest drivers of App Store rankings? If you are enjoying Miximum, please consider leaving a review! I'd love to hear your feedback.
1.5.2
2021-02-22
• Minor bug fixes. I know everyone hates that, but there's really no better way to describe it.
1.5.1
2021-02-09
It's been great to see that users are enjoying version 1.5!
This build fixes issues with grouping tracks by genre.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Rebuild it? I think the Paw Patrol said that. Version 1.5 doesn't make any serious departures in feature set, but most elements have been rebuilt better using new UI elements introduced in iOS 13 and 14. Plus, a few new improvements:

EXCLUDE SOURCES
Now in addition to selecting playlist sources to be included in mixes, you can define sources whose songs should always be excluded from the final results.

EXPANDED MINIPLAYER
Miximum now includes the same swipeable miniplayer as Cs Music.

CONTEXTUAL MENUS
New contextual menus make it a little easier to play or shuffle a mix or playlist without having to navigate into it.

IPAD!
Finally, full support for iPad.

UI REFINEMENTS
Made some design improvements consistent with the emerging visual language of Cs/Miximum/PlayTally.

CLOUD DRIVE SYNC
Fixed issues affecting some/probably most/maybe all cloud sync users.
1.3.5
2020-06-17
Just a few crash fixes and some tweaks to displaying the Touch Bar. A more comprehensive tune up is planned soon!
1.3.4
2020-05-11
• NEW sort option: release date. If a song doesn't have a tagged release date, the "year" field will be used instead.
• Fixed a bug causing some saving glitches after deleting a rule.
1.3.3
2020-05-02
NEW mix rules: Most Recently Played and Least Recently Played.

If you're enjoying Miximum, please consider leaving an App Store review and/or sharing it with your friends!
1.3.2
2020-04-19
Tweaked the model pane designs to be more in line with SongOwl and the modern iOS aesthetic. Specifically:
• Mix edit panes now use the iOS 13 card presentation type. This makes them a little larger, brighter, and especially allows for more gesture-based interaction so that the UI can be less cluttered (no more nav bar!)
• Similar updates to the settings and pro panes.

I've also made some ASO improvements, so hopefully more people will find about Miximum. You can help with that! Please consider leaving an App Store review, and/or spreading the word on social media. Thanks in advance :)
1.3.1
2020-04-07
Quick update!
• I've just become aware of a new... idiosyncrasy of iOS 13.4 that was causing the shuffle commands to no longer work. That line of code has moved to a new home, and things should be working once again.
• At the same time (at user request) years have been added to time based rules like "Last Played".
• If you missed version 1.3 you haven't heard about rule groups! Details below :)

---

After a long wait, rule groupings are finally a part of Miximum!

What does this mean? Well, there's a few different ways to look at it: mixes are much more powerful. You can now create multiple groupings of rules that each calculate their own independent results, which are then combined. Other way to look at this? A new rule grouping is *as* powerful as each mix previously was. So rule groups are functionally the same as combining mixes!

Here's a couple things to know:
- Rules in your existing mixes will be grouped automatically.
- Previously, the default rule setting was to "Match All". That makes sense for multiple rules, but when combining rule groupings "Match Any" is usually best. If you are having issues with results, try changing that setting at the mix level.

I hope you enjoy it:)
If you'd like to help support future Miximum development please leave an App Store review, and share Miximum with your friends!

1.2.5

Minor bug fixes and improvements. Seriously, some of them are for issues that haven't even happened (but did in SongOwl).
1.2.4
2020-03-04
Removed some substring parsing from search. Substring parsing breaks apart your query, so you could search "friends ballad", and get "The Ballad of Me and My Friends." I applied this to all evaluated fields which, in retrospect, was foolish. It could add a ton of "false positives" that maybe included a common term like "the" in an unrelated field. Stupid, right? Good thing I don't code medical equipment. Anyway, substring parsing now applies (much more sensibly) ONLY to song names; so those confusing false positives should no longer appear.

GitsCarried,
Still a must have app!
Do you have that one app that you literally can’t do without, the one that keeps you from migrating from apple. This is that App for me. Its purpose is plain and simple take a set of rules from the user and apply them to a vast music collection and make a “smart” playlist that easily updates depending on how it’s set up. I use it to easily switch up songs from my own collection of several thousand tracks, but where it gets really interesting to me is in the time since I first picked up the app the developer has added a function so you can tell it to combine playlists from the apple community that other people are updating. So In essence I have created several genre playlists that automatically add new music from other users, and knows my favorites mixes them together and then keeps the individual tracks from repeating within 4 weeks to 6 months depending on my personal preferences… I used to create playlists by hand and the time I’ve saved with this app is a true life saver!

Excellent App, Just What I Was Looking For
I have been looking to create dynamic/smart playlists on iOS for years. After tons of fighting with synching between macOS Music/iCloud Music/iOS, I finally found Miximum. It was everything I wanted. The rules engine is fantastic, and allows for complex playlist to be created very easily. My only suggestion would be to add a rule that allows you to set the total count for an Artist. For example, I have one playlist (Metallica) that feeds into a larger playlist. Because the Metallica playlist has so many more songs, I would like to limit the number of songs from them in the new playlist. There might be a way to do this by combining different rules, but I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. That small suggestion aside, this is the best $1.99 I have spent on the App Store in years. Well worth it.
podEternal24,
Helpful, but shuffle doesn’t work for large libraries
My main reason for getting this app was to consolidate music “in my library” with music “not in my library” (since my experience with the Apple Music app has been buggy and incomplete). First I tried just selecting “All Music” which (after a few minutes of waiting) generated a playlist of 110,000 songs, which means that part worked! Sadly when I hit the shuffle button, it simply failed to play. I assume this is a bug in Apple Music, not in the app. I was able to use the smart filters to create a 1000 song randomized playlist, though, which means I have a way around it at least by creating a new randomized playlist each session/day. If it was possible to handle this automatically somehow (only open the maximum allowable playlist size in Apple a music when clicking the shuffle button), that would be an improvement, but I assume it isn’t that simple.

Thanks for creating a great app! I look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future.
CraigSumner,
Held back by some system limitations
UPDATED: With further testing I’ve learned more about when the ‘last played’ data fails to update. When I use a single set of headphones, or the built-in device speaker, or a single airplay speaker, everything works as expected. Hooray! But when I use two airplay speakers together, which is my normal household setup, the last-played dates never seem to update. That sounds like a problem with Apple’s systems, and not this app. ORIGINAL: I’m disappointed. I used this app to create a “Recently Played” playlist, based on the rule: “Last played within the last six months.” The playlist included exactly the songs I expected it to. Then I used the Apple Music app to play an album I hadn’t played in a year. Minutes or days later, those songs are still missing from the Miximum playlist. The app is much less useful to me if the playlists don’t update automatically. And the app description suggests that they should. It’s disappointing.
Jerseyfre$h,
Fulfills one need, leaves one need unmet
I downloaded this app in a hope that could listen to each song in a playlist once, like I used to do through iTunes. Being that I’ve not had a Mac in years that’s no longer possible. I am not able to do set this playback feature unfortunately. Also there’s no provision for use on the Apple Watch. But this app does allow me to set up mixes and accomplish sort of what I hoped by having a setting for “last played.” When I reverse the order I can at least hit the songs that don’t get listened to. I really like that by having that setting for multiple mixes it “holds my spot” in my mixes for each individual mix. Playing music through the native Apple app obviously it cannot “bookmark.” If there’s a way to set rules for playback not just setting up mixes that would get a 5th star. But my gratitude goes out to you for the App as it is now. So thank you.
aolenik04,
Works well with a clean, consistent design
I’m honestly surprised how great this app is. The UI is decluttered and consistent with Apple Music’s. It’s snappy and fits right into the ecosystem. The customization it gives you for playlists is unlike any other app I’ve found. There is definitely room for improvement (re-ordering rules, duplicating groups, etc) but this app is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with Apple Music instead of switching to Tidal, for example. It was so tedious manually adding songs to the several playlists they belong to, now all I have to do is add a song to my library and it’s automatically sorted into the correct mixes. As mentioned, it is definitely not without its flaws, but it’s for sure the best for what I’m looking for, as far as I’m aware. Definitely worth the couple bucks.
dpsii,
ALMOST what I need
There is a confirmed problem with Alexa and Apple Music, where the shuffle function simply does not work on large lists. This app has the potential to fix my issue once and for all, but needs a couple of tweaks to be perfect, and could be shared as answers on the many thousand thread responses of frustrated Alexa/Apple users.

Right now this fixes my issue in a clunky way, in that I can open the app on a regular basis, open my mix, select random for sort again and saved it to a playlist that my Alexa routine calls. This works only AFTER deleting the existing playlist.

What the hordes of frustrated Alexa users out there would love to see is a single button or right click to automate the shuffling and OVERWRITE the playlist of the same name in Apple Music. Bonus points for integrating with iOS Automator app to do it in one click!

Great work! If you make these changes, I promise to spend some time promoting it for you in the many threads I talked about. That would make it worth much more than $2.99.
Ebbyot,
Started out great… but no longer works at all!
I first got this app because I wanted a way to make smart playlists on my phone, since I had to use a computer otherwise. It started out brilliantly, just a few minor bugs that were easy to look past. I made tons of playlists and enjoyed creating them all. But now, after a while of having the app- I can no longer make playlists. No matter what I attempt to do, no songs show up in the playlists I’ve been trying to create- they just come out blank. I’ve tried to make multiple playlists in the span of about 2 months, but no matter when or how I try… it just doesn’t work. I’d love for this to be fixed so I can get back to making playlists and create some that I’ve been meaning to make for a while!! Otherwise, without this issue, the app would be pretty close to perfect. A good 4.5 stars.
Zed Leppelin1211,
Best mix creation app in the game!!
I first have to say that I almost never go out of my way to write a review unless I really stand by the product. This is definitely an app that everyone should be using. Especially if you’re like me and enjoy coming up with different angles to mixing music together. What Miximum is able to do is something I’ve always wanted on my phone. Being able to create random mixes on the fly with so many rules to customize its outcome is really a beautiful thing. Mike is clearly putting a lot of work into this app. So thanks for putting Miximum out there! It’s a game changer!!
mp303,
Great app! 1.5 introduced a bug though.
Love the app so the new bug hits me pretty hard as it’s rendered it kind of useless for me.

When I sort a playlist on genre it will consistently crash the app. If I uninstall and reinstall the app I can view the playlist I want. If I sort it on genre it crashes immediately. If I open the app and try to open the playlist again the app crashes immediately. No transitions, fatal error. If I delete the app and reinstall the sort resets to song and I can open it and do this all over again.

A thing I should note is I use non-alpha characters in my genre names, like “Rock/Metal” or “Drum & Bass”.
