Description

AltiSpace is a convolution reverb app with advanced controls that provides realistic sounding natural acoustic space or vintage reverb devices for any track or mix.

A convolution reverb takes a captured sample (called an impulse response) from a real-world space or real hardware and uses this to digitally simulate the reverberation of that space or device down to the last detail and nuance. Because it is sampled, not synthesized, convolution reverb is known for its stunning realism, and it is widely considered to be the best type of reverb. However, unlike the more common algorithmic reverbs, convolution reverbs usually does not have much control over the reverberation process.

But AltiSpace, in addition to the ability to load your own impulse response files and a built-in library of the most interesting vintage reverb device presets, has advanced settings such as EQ, gate, ducking, modulation and more. You can change the original impulse response parameters to something completely new and then save it as a new preset.

This app has an easy-to-use user interface, where all the main controls are located on the single screen, and it is ready to use right out of the box, even without additional settings. And at the same time, you can easily change the parameters of the impulse responses from the built-in library to create your own sound.

App features:

- Ability to import your own impulse response files.
- A large built-in library of presets from the most interesting hardware reverbs.
- Convenient preset manager with the ability to group and search presets.
- Presets can be marked as favorites for display in the favorites group.
- Supports MIDI controllers (also Bluetooth) with learn or manually assign mode.
- Reverb can work with a stereo or mono input and convert it to stereo.
- Add dynamic noise before reverb for a more natural sound.
- The gate allows you to turn on the reverb when the threshold is exceeded.
- The ducking allows you to turn off the reverb when the threshold is exceeded.
- Sets the minimum reverb level for Gate and Ducking modes.
- Equalizer with high and low cut filters in chain before or after reverb.
- Changing the time (length) of the current impulse response.
- Possibility to set a fade out point for a smooth end of the impulse response.
- Sets the pre-delay time of the signal before reverb.
- Experimental feature to change the pitch of the impulse response.
- Amplifying early or late reflections.
- Adjusts the stereo image before the reverb.
- Haas effect for adding stereo space to a mono signal.
- Sets the depth and frequency of modulation the signal before reverb.
- Mixing dry / wet signal and adjusting the output level.
- Input and output level meters.
- Indicators of possible input clipping for standalone.
- Prevents any output clipping for standalone.
- Built-in full description of all controls.

AltiSpace is a universal application for iOS and macOS. It can work on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac / MacBook with M1 chip (and later). AltiSpace works on iPhone and iPad standalone, as an Audio Unit or Inter-App Audio module, and supports Audiobus and Ableton Link. On macOS, AltiSpace can works both as a standalone application and as an Audio unit (AUv3) with DAWs and audio unit hosts like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, MainStage, Cockos Reaper, Plogue Bidule, and other hosts that support AUv3 plugins. All application features are available on iOS and macOS, including MIDI support (with a midi learn option) and audio unit parameters. AltiSpace has a built-in detailed description of all parameters also available as PDF file on application site.

This update makes AltiSpace a truly universal iOS and macOS application. It can work on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac / MacBook with M1 chip (and later). On macOS the AltiSpace can works both as a standalone application and as an Audio unit (AUv3) with DAWs and audio unit hosts like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, MainStage, Cockos Reaper, Plogue Bidule, etc. All application features are available on macOS, including MIDI support, audio unit parameters and importing IR files from any directory of device.

Also in this update:

- Shift + Touch and drag to change the second value of the knob for macOS.
- Optimization of the audio engine.
- Built-in description has been updated.
- Minor bugs were fixed.

This update brings significant additions to the app. AltiSpace now supports MIDI controllers (also Bluetooth) for all parameters with learn mode or assigning CC / RPN controls manually. Added a parameter that sets the fade out point for a smooth end of the impulse response. Added the option to filter the list of presets by part of the preset name (search for a preset). When importing impulse response files, you can now select multiple files at once. Improved UI scaling when use as audio unit. Updated built-in app description. All new features can be found in the description. This description is available on the app website as a PDF file.

2021-10-20
This update improves the app's audio engine and adds the ability to move user presets to different groups. Now you can import a large number of your own impulse responses and group them so as not to search for them in one big list.

All changes:

- Added groups for user presets.
- Ability to select multiple user presets for move and delete.
- Added option to show only user presets for the audio unit host.
- Added option to show only favorite presets for the audio unit host.
- Fixed an issue with blocking UI when using file picker.
- Pictures in descriptions are now displayed in audio unit mode.
- Fixed an issue with the Inter-app audio control panel on iPhone.
- Some improvements of audio engine.
- Built-in description has been updated.
- Minor bugs were fixed.

antihcl,
Best convolution auv3
EXACTLY what I was looking for! It sounds amazing, is easy to use, comes with a ton of impulses, is very easy to load your own wav file impulse responses, and is light on CPU on my iPad Air 4. Browsing patches is also very organized. I HIGHLY recommend this. It’s super fun to use on drums or just about anything else. Can make reverb type sounds, delay type sounds, and even phaser or flanger, but can get weirder and more interesting than any of those plain effects alone. It also can add interesting reflections and some harmonics if used with the right IR files, try one captured from a metal can or a grain silo. :) There are also controls for shaping the sound that other convolvers don’t have. Combine this with a saturator and you can really get into some sound design fun. I’m using it for ambient, dark ambient, industrial, techno, industrial metal, horror soundtracks and experimental electronic, but it’s super useful for many genres. Check out convolution sound design, you can do a lot with your own impulse files, but this app is also really complete if you only use the built in impulses. Kudos to the developer. I’m really excited about the sound territory this auv3 gives me access to on iPad, and with great performance as well.
EarthisInteresting,
The only money I’ve ever had to spend on reverb for iOS
This app has such an amazing algorithm that it isn’t just reverb. Of course, it’s “convolution” reverb, and the description given by the developer is as good as any.

Beyond that, this is the layman’s version:

This thing can take synth sounds and insert this “convolution” -into- them, almost as though it occupies your preexisting sound. This can be attenuated, so it’s not out of control. This alone is what makes AltiSpace a synthesizer in and of itself and why I think it deserves more recognition on iOS.

The recently added iOS optimization is a huge deal for how powerful this thing is. I’ve never experienced any kind of crashing with this thing, even though reverbs tend to have complex algorithms that lend to CPU hogging and therefore crashing.

I’ve only scratched the surface of what this thing can do. But the combination of SynthMaster 2 and AltiSpace alone can replace Jerry-rigging a bunch of apps together to try and achieve the same effect. It’s an FX machine just as much as it is a “space machine”.

Slap five stars on it 👍🏻
jeffry-s,
A world of spaces
This app’s presets emulate those of classic reverb devices from the late 70s onward rather than directly sampled identified locations (so far as I can tell). The developer’s site, however, links to free downloads of professionally sampled impulses from Britain and elsewhere. I loaded York Minster, a 10-second sample of this largest of medieval cathedrals created by firing a starter pistol. I found it necessary to smooth out the onset by importing the .wav file into audacity and deleting a few milliseconds of silence prior to the shot. The end result sounds amazing in AltiSpace. The parameters offered to nuance the effect are thoughtfully implemented.
c6y,
Sounds great
But the User Interface is not good
