Auro Extended Universe – Beta Spells
Static Swap: Change places with an adjacent monster, and both gain 1 static charge. You can use this ability twice before it expires.

Flip. Charge into an adjacent creature and flip them over your head. Leave Votices on both departed tiles.

Ultimate – Summon The Kraken. Summon a Kraken on a tile destroying it and bouncing everyone adjacent away. Anything on the targeted tile is devoured.

Sir cucumber,
Deep gameplay, very difficult
Try as I might I can't make it to 75 points or past level 4, but I keep learning new tricks and don't feel like giving up. Worth a try!
UltimateWalrus,
Masterpiece of game design
I’m so happy this game is back on the app store. What’s more, they actually seem to have updated it from last time, adding little balance improvements and even a couple new enemies.

This is one of the best pick-up-and-play roguelikes of all time. Even though the rules are simple, the gameplay is incredibly dynamic. In the higher levels, you are forced to come up with a novel and unique strategy to tackle almost every single enemy. There is no “fluff” here like in-app purchases, leveling, or metaprogression beyond just upping the game’s difficulty. Only rock solid gameplay.

It’s very unique; its closest peer would probably be Into The Breach, but that game is vastly different and not really good for pick-up-and-play. Auro is much more accessible, and worth picking up even if you’re not that into the genre.

My only question is what’s with the icon?? It used to be a cooler icon of the main character, but now it’s just a portrait of one of the weird looking in-game adversaries with the transparency messed up. I get it though — I don’t even maintain my own iOS game, since nobody buys it… I’m just really glad this is back on the app store.
Aurileano,
this “anti-Angry Birds” may be the best game for the iPhone/iPad
In this age of flashy, distracting but meaningless mobile games, it’s rare to see a game that’s actually fun, let alone inventive. Auro manages to do both. Give it a shot.

In this turn-based strategy game, you play as a little blond prince who defeats enemies by bumping them into water or pillars of flame. Different spells can do anything from shoot rows of fire to turn you into a raging yeti.

The game can take a while to get into. The art design is unusual, and the spells don’t seem to always make sense at first (launching a fireball on top of an enemy, the instinctual move of almost any other game, is often a wrong choice here—instead you aim to the left of an enemy to knock him into a pit).

Keep at it though, and you’ll find that there’s a lot of internal logic and a great deal of thought and love put into making a nearly perfect strategy game. Easily worth the $5.
Greybrick,
Not a time-waster
I’ve grown to lose interest in most games because they feel like pointless checklists. Auro reminds me of what I love about my favorite game - Into The Breach (which I’d love to have on iOS). Enemy information is known to the player, you have a limited set of fun tactical abilities, and the consequences of your actions can be predicted & manipulated. The player is rewarded for putting thought into the game, and you aren’t surprised constantly with random events. I’m really glad that the developer decided to update the game, thank you!
Glecko,
It’s baaaaack
Oh man one of my favorite single player games is back. Get it. It’s awesome.

Edit: more info about the game. It’s heavy on the strategy and planning and thinking multiple moves ahead. Most certainly play though the tutorial at least once. This game will challenge you consistently.

I hope you give this a chance and enjoy as much as I have. So happy to have it back on my phone.
red dog one,
Interesting but finicky
Found this game because of the author's podcast. He wants feedback so here goes:

User interface clunky, text hard to read. Graphics, C-. Game concept interesting but confusing and hard to differentiate/remember what does what. Tutorial lacking and doesn't prepare you well. Infuriating that I am in a timed game, need to plan my moves, and yet cannot see more than a few hexes.

Keith you are obviously a smart dude, but you seldom talk about what the player feels, play testing, or your collaborators. I watched a Sid Meier 2010 keynote and that's mostly what he talks about.

Better understanding the psychology behind the player might aid you if you want future efforts to be more popular. (Episode 26). Good luck man. I'm going to give Auro a few more tries on my next flight.

Fresh
Although this game doesn't make any sense at first, it gets better with time and experience. It is different each time you play so it doesn't get boring. It could be ahead of its time.
theAndhedrew,
Nice pixel art, still feels low-quality
Good game, nice pixel art. Sad, sad, sad that so many of the pixels are blurry. I guess it doesn't play well with the iPad's native resolution. Those combined with the black bars on the side make this feel like a low-quality, cheap game, not the pixel art itself. Too bad that such a nice game with nice art has these visual issues.
Armillanymphs,
An underrated classic
One of my favorites, which deserves a lot more attention!
tomaspaine,
Skip it
Had expected a great game similar to Hoplite but instead paid a premium price for a game with grainy graphics, subpar audio, and poor gameplay. The "monster bumping" is simplistic and limited - I like the idea but it just wasn't pulled off well. There are other, similar games that we much better than this.
