Paisleyfrog,
An excellent successor
For the longest time, I was put off by reviews that were saying just how difficult and frustrating this game is. It seems the game has been balanced since then, because Azkend 2 is truly excellent. I'll be clear: if you want a relaxing match game, Azkend 2 is not for you. (It can be frustrating at times, as you really need to vary your powerups, much moreso than the first game.)

That said, if you want a challenging, beautiful match game with excellent music and nicely varied goals (much more so than the first Azkend), then you've found your game.

EDIT: just finished the game last night...and went back and started it over again (you get to keep your power ups!), as well as working on the medals. On the whole, some of the levels maybe feel a bit too hard (bug levels on a small grid were quite challenging), in that they require as much luck as skill...but no board took me more than a dozen tries....and it makes the payoff all the more rewarding. Difficult, but not impossible (Jewel Quest vs levels, I'm looking at you). On the whole, every bit as good as the first game, and in many ways, better.
Glazon,
In fine tradition
Loved what they kept the same, love what they changed. Story is fun and art is beautiful. Good sound track too. The new added game types are extremely fun. Not giving it 5 stars because I beat it without losing (so not challenging enough) and only took a few hours. So changing one of those two I’d change my rating to 5. But given the quality of game content and possible updates definitely worth the money.
WRS15743,
Awesome and unique game
So glad to find a unique match 3 game like this, with no IAP, thank you, developer! Very beautifully designed. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s landscape only (the original Azkend is portrait, much easier to hold and match). Still, that’s not a dealbreaker. This game is super well designed and challenging and fun.
Scarabidae,
Fun new elements make up for ...
Their best release yet, so far. Very clever new puzzles. Still great music and beautiful, engaging artwork. Their match three, puzzle, story games de-stress and recharge yourself, and challenge you at the same time.
I have read the the "unbalanced" complaints. But I like the variety of new elements in the puzzles. Not just match three, they add more clever twists.
I also enjoy the small touch of working the story line into some of the "find the photo detail" sections. These chapter breaks used to seem random, pointless, and easy. Now they are getting harder but with some story clues to lead you.
I like that their previous games are games that I can finish, unlike the pinball games that require being a fanatic games master to get far into them. We will see if I get stuck later.

Disclaimer: I haven't finished the game yet. Stay tuned.
ItsCosmo,
This version is more fun
Update: Thankfully the developers listened to the negative comments and have released an update that addresses most of the concerns. Some levels are still hard, but in a "fair" way. Still not as fun as version 1, though.

Original Review: loved Azkend, and I understand that a sequel is not going to be the same game. But I expected better than this. The tiles are OK but not as interesting as in the first game. The game is much more challenging, but not in a fun way. Roadblocks on every board prevent the player from matching really long chains. In fact the game seems to be designed to make matching chains longer than 3 a rarity. So often there are no matches possible and you must watch a pointless and overly long shuffling animation many times per level, only to be left with a board with few chains, none of which help you complete the level as the clock ticks down. Will not be buying the third installment on faith.
A. Toonguy,
Not as fun as the original
Don't get me wrong, it plays a lot the same, but there's some "thing" missing from the game. I played the old version for the iPhone back to back with the iPad version and everything, the animation, flipping tile backgrounds, even the special effects just seems quicker and smoother on the old game. There was a certain charm to those other images that this version lacks. Add to that the voice over that really want needed, and it almost seems like this game was handed off to another team that just had the most basic idea of how the game works.

As another review said, you run into "no more moves" really early into the game which feels more like weak play balancing given the shape and size of that particular board. I really wish I could say that it's more of the same, but it's not. It's a shadow of a brilliant game.
Joyflute,
Letdown from Azkend 1
As much as I loved the first Azkend, this second version is a major disappointment. The graphics are great, but there just isn't enough time or space on the game board to make matches and finish some levels. I'm only halfway through and having to play levels repeatedly to pass them. I rarely had to do that on the first one or any other match-3 I've played. I think more time to finish levels would help, or decreasing the number of different types of game pieces on the boards to help make matches might be another solution. But it definitely needs some work because it's just an exercise in frustration the way it is now!
garyshum_,
Excellent
Great puzzle game, adventure storyline, music, high production values overall. Gameplay is challenging and there's a lot of strategy involved in picking the correct items best suited for each level. Getting stuck on a level is frustrating, but switching up equipment in your inventory usually is the key to passing the level. I agree with most reviewers that the timer is frustrating but it's all the sweeter when you beat the level.
BillsFanNo1,
Needs some work to balance gameplay
Thoroughly enjoyed the first Azkend so this was an instant buy. The game graphically looks great. The levels seem to be very unbalanced with regards to difficulty, however. Many levels I have encountered were beaten the first time through. Then there have been a couple that took hours to defeat due to very challenging map layout and horrible tile placement, many times resulting into inability to match a string. I'm about to give up on this game as it gets to be more trial and error than strategy on these levels. Hope this can be improved with an update.
eastern79,
Crying shame
I completely agree with the other comments regarding the difficulty level of this game. It is almost impossible to complete certain levels. This game could have been great but alas it has been ruined. It quickly stops being fun and instead becomes irritating and frustrating. It's a shame because the graphics and music are gorgeous. Save your money and buy Heroes of Kalevela instead. This game is such a disappointment! This is a brilliant developer. Maybe they can fix this. I hope so!
