fair rolls
First backgammon game I’ve played that has random rolls. Sometimes, but rarely, it freezes. Most people complaining are just bad at the game. I used to complain to myself (not write a review) because I wasn’t good at the game. While I believe the responses to other reviews aren’t the most professional, I can understand why… People always complain about the algorithm when it comes to their variety of rolls more than anything else. These developers finally brought a backgammon game with fair rolls; that has been almost impossible to find through an incredibly long process of trial and error. Thank you all for creating this app!

Good game, flaws, can’t reach app support
The game is fun. No doubt about that. However, there is a programming error. Here is the problem which has FORCED me to lose after getting all my pieces off first. I had 2 pieces left. I had a piece on my 1 column and a piece on my 3 column. I rolled a double 1. I moved the piece from the 3 column off and then the piece from the 1 column. Game over, right. Nope. The game doesn’t acknowledge that I have zero pieces on the board and then I lose when the time runs out. I tried undoing the sequence and doing it in a different order with the same result. This has happened 4 times. Please fix it. I tried to go to App Support and it takes you to a page to download the game. No way to contact support other than writing the error in a review.
Another problem is when you gain access to the 4th level (Turkey), you can’t find anyone to play with at that level so you cannot advance to the 5th level. I can live with that.
Therefore, until the error is fixed, my 1 rating stands. If it is fixed, I would rate the game much higher. If you want to get frustrated by losing a game you clearly won, don’t download this game until the developer acknowledges the error and fixes it.
Another problem is when you gain access to the 4th level (Turkey), you can’t find anyone to play with at that level so you cannot advance to the 5th level. I can live with that.
Therefore, until the error is fixed, my 1 rating stands. If it is fixed, I would rate the game much higher. If you want to get frustrated by losing a game you clearly won, don’t download this game until the developer acknowledges the error and fixes it.

Good but imperfect
I have already edited my first review, perhaps unfairly in frustration, and I cannot seem to edit it again so I will try to make amends here.
This is a very good backgammon game overall, and probably the best PvP backgammon game for iOS. It pairs you with real people. It doesn’t glam up the game with stupid power ups. The dice rolling seems realistic, even though any bad streak can feel like there’s a conspiracy. It does pop up a few paid power ups but not too much. But I have to take off a point because on a couple occasions I have been in the lead in the closing moves, only to have the game stop responding to my input, with a perfectly robust internet connection. I removed another point because when I pointed this out in my amended review, I received a very aggressive response from the developers that was inappropriate. I get it. Backgammon is a game of luck and skill and as such the developers are plagued with passionate users who feel they have been treated unfairly. But please try to maintain a professional demeanor in your responses. Regardless, this is well developed game and it’s shortcomings can be overlooked because of it’s solid foundation.

Not random dice
No matter what the app says, these dice are not random. When your opponent regularly gets multiple doubles when bearing off, the dice are not random. There are other examples of non randomness you will experience: you get the same roll 3 and 4 times in a row, AND YOUR OPPONENT DOES ALSO! All tends to a frustrating game play experience. Update 1: Now read the totally laughable response these “professionals” submit when you provide an honest evaluation. If their response doesn’t give you a true understanding of the low quality of this game as represented by the low quality of their employees, then by all means try it out and find out first hand how weak the dice algorithm is. Update2: the lack of professionalism and incompetence shown by the “developer” permeates everything they do. If they would spend the time and effort QCing their product that they do attacking honest responders perhaps they would at some point finally have a decent game. As it stands, don’t waste your time with this poorly built game. Just delete the app as I have. Update 3: Don’t waste your time on this weak game managed by low Intellect individuals. They only want your money and don’t care about game quality.

A backgammon game with a true random dice generator would be great. After a few games you can see the algorithm. The game literally chooses who will win. If you get bumped you will seldom get back on the first roll. If the 2 and 6 slots are covered, your odds of double sixes, double twos, or a 2-6 are about 90%. If you have two pieces bumped, you will seldom, if ever, get them both on in a single roll. “Miracle” doubles are predictable. If you get too far ahead, your opponent will frequently get boxcars. Your opponent will start 90+% of the time. This is not random. Perhaps the developers don’t know what “random” means.
The anger management issues of the yahoos who developed it are also pretty obvious. They should work harder to make rolls random instead of ranting. :) Lowered to one star. Personal attacks instead of addressing the issues. Demands for inaccurate reviews. Accusations of “blackmail” when I haven’t asked them for anything. Hilarious!

Funny how I can have a 100% win/loss rate, isn’t it? I just keep beating up on Royal level players and laugh every time I play. Keep up the whining app developers. Glitchy game that cheats
First off I was winning at a 65% clip for 2 months. Now that I am a little higher I am losing at about 80%. It’s because the game wants you to pay for coins to play. As for the glitches, when it’s your turn to roll, the screen has a quick glitch and all of a sudden your opponent is rolling for a second time in a row. I’ve also seen where the game goes “no available moves” and skips your turn when I had plenty of moves. It was only the third roll of the game! I also want to mention that during my 2 week losing streak my opponents have been consistently getting double after double. One game they got 7 doubles at the end. I understand luck but this is way beyond random luck. Even if you don’t want to believe me that all of a sudden I’ve hit the worst luck streak ever, you simply can’t overlook your opponent getting to go twice in a row early. I’ve lost too many games on the last turn after getting skipped.

Way too many bugs. Don’t waste your time. I’d rate zero stars if I could.
I have been playing this game for quite some time. The main problem with this game is that it takes the money out of your bank as soon as you select a game. This is an issue because it has bugs and locks up occasionally. You can’t complete the game but your money is already gone, win or lose. The last time is the reason I am uninstalling the game. I was playing someone that kept doubling, even though he was down. He redoubled then just stopped playing. I was way ahead at this point. His timer timed out and the game decided I lost and took 4/5 of my total bank! He timed out and he should have forfeited but for some reason I lost all my money.
You invest a lot of time in these games and try to increase your bank. It’s very frustrating to have that taken from you when clearly it shouldn’t have and you are powerless to do anything about it.

Finally a realistic backgammon app
Developers, please forgive my slander of other backgammon apps, but its really nice to finally be able to play with truly random rolls. I haven't played a backgammon app in my life where the rolls were this realistic. This game is fair to the end. There are no patterns of miraculous winning right before asking for a review either. *cough* Backgammon Live. *cough*. If you enjoy backgammon and think the game is exciting enough without artificially programmed ups and downs, then this app is for you. Backgammon Champions and its developers are worth their weight in gold. -A thankful mechanical engineer

I have been playing this game for weeks and was enjoying it until I realized it will not let you pass level 7 until you start paying money. Additionally, when you play at the higher levels it almost consistently gives the other player multiple doubles making it impossible to continue to win. Just like the rest of the games out there this one is also very much rigged.
In addition to this, playing on an iPhone, the user experience is terrible, each time you try to move a piece it’s too close to the edge of the screen and you often are switching apps because of this. This game was not built with an iPhone design in mind.
After several weeks I have deleted this game. It’s just too frustrating to be stuck at the same level.
