Description

Bebot is a musical instrument that anyone can play. Instead of a keyboard, it has an easy-to-use touch control system. And it's all built into a friendly animated robot, who performs your music while you play.

Although it looks simple on the outside, inside is a powerful synth engine which lets you create and edit your own sounds and apply effects. The controls are easy to use, making it fun to tinker and experiment with sound. If you just want to get playing, there's also a wide selection of preset sounds.

The touch control system lets you lock in a scale so that you'll never play a wrong note, which makes it easy to play, even on your iPhone. It's polyphonic, which means you can use multiple fingers at once to play chords and harmonies. Plus, you can perform sweeping slides and expressive gestures that would be practically impossible on a regular keyboard.

While it's designed to be simple and fun, that doesn't mean it's only for beginners. Bebot has been used both on stage and in the studio by accomplished musicians and performers including Dream Theater, How To Destroy Angels and The Flaming Lips.

To see and hear Bebot in action, check out the demo videos at normalware.com, including a walkthrough demo by keyboard wizard Jordan Rudess.

Now with Audiobus and Inter-App Audio, you can connect Bebot to other apps such as GarageBand to record, multitrack and add effects, making Bebot more versatile and useful than ever. For more information about Audiobus, visit http://audiob.us/

z242nloki,
9 years later, still the best app I’ve ever bought!
This was one of the first apps I purchased way back in 2012 when I got my first iPhone. It quickly became my favorite app and still is one that I use often. Definitely the most return for my money, the best $2 spent ever.

If you like making weird noises with synthesizers Bebot is an amazing amount of fun! Hooking your phone up to your stereo is highly recommended, it’s a blast. Your cats may not love it though. If you have any nieces or nephews they will also enjoy using this app a ton and you will become their favorite aunt or uncle automatically. I think Bebot was one of the first words I heard my nephew say.

Thank you to the developer making this and for keeping it updated all this time, which is really amazing. I’ve had some really great times with this app and I wanted to thank you for that.
Stevo3985,
Incredible App - Just 1 Request...
This app is something I randomly purchased back when I had the iPhone 4S, and amazingly, it was not abandonware, like so many other musical apps of the past. It went from simply a fun novelty, capable of keeping my 2yo daughter amused, all the way to a refined set of parameters that could be tweaked to make some super dope sounds and run inside of AudioBus 3 for using to make real music! What’s not to love? The only thing I would like to special request is a set of tweakable modulations and adjustable filter (for the brighter sounds) to go with the sounds and effects. Maybe an envelope for modulating the amplitude of Bebot’s vocals, a full controllable or even slightly limited (I don’t want to be greedy) LFO, and a simple resonant LP, HP, BP filter like what you find on the Behringer Neutron or something like that. That would make this absolutely top notch in the all time hall of fame apps, as far as I am concerned. Even if you do none of these things, it is still an incredible app, and I just want to sincerely say thanks!

Quinnamal,
i love bebot
i downloaded this app on my first ever ipod touch, probably back 2009 or 2010, and it's transferred onto my devices ever since. Though I don't use it very often, it is the one app that I feel I must have on my phone because BEBOT IS LIKE A FRIEND TO ME. Whenever I have an exceptionally bad day and I remember ol' bebot he always cheers me up. As a musician I am always impressed at the functionality, quality and variety that this app has to offer. The UI is awesome... the only logical progression from here in my mind is an in-app DAW where you can more carefully craft bebot songs, as opposed to the looper which is obviously limited.

Thank you for this little guy!!! I hope he continues to live on and evolve (ever so slightly) throughout the years.
kevvy kev kev,
Incredible! More looping functionality?
I absolutely love this app. It has honestly brought me so much joy since I’ve downloaded it, and I’ve used it in both casual and more “serious” musical contexts. One thing that I think would be amazing is updating the functionality of the looping on the app; being able to control exactly how long loops are, perhaps adding a click track, making much longer loops, and other functions would bring this to the next level for me. Thank you for making such an amazing product though.
crazyivanov,
Why complaining?
It’s just an app for passing the time. My 7yo daughter and I enjoy it immensely. We don’t play anything as one would play a piano. It’s for having a good time. For just making nonsense yet at the same time it’s very soothing. Sometimes, when I’m just by myself I might pull it out and play with it.
I guess the app has been around since 2010, maybe ‘11. I’m glad it still is. It deserves its own place as something unique and not cheesy. I hope it never goes out of date.
Best regards to the dev and for the rest of the people, download it.
Murdock Scott,
Still fun… and useful!
I still love this app, it is a great implementation of how to use a touch device for music. What I can’t understand is why there is no PRO version! ThumbJam is similar and much more powerful, but there is just something about the straight forward interface of BeBot that makes it super playable. I have even used it in live performances with great success. Here is to hoping for an update with additional features someday. 😀
mtaylort,
Amazing.
Another reviewer mentioned how this is the best two dollars they ever spent on an app, and I completely agree!! I have always put bebot on each new phone through the years and I still mess around with the chiptune preset almost weekly. I hope it never goes away and I’ve even made a few songs with it.
snapper-Z,
Brilliant app
I love this app beyond all reason. It is quirky, pretty, flexible, powerful, and fun. I bought it years ago when it came out. I have just enough musical talent to appreciate the power of this thing. But I only fool around with it for a few minutes at a time. And it brings me joy.
Levrick,
Most FUN app out there ... I think!
Listen I’ve had this app for five years if that’s possible and it never gets old. I never have any glitches whatsoever and I’m sure if I had some experience on a piano-I do on my Organ, eh thank you very much! Seriously a person that already has keyboard experience will really dig this.
Honore Doktorr,
clutch lil synth
The design and usability of this app are great — you can use it to play over other audio that's going on the phone or tablet. The robot and background are really well drawn and def bring a smile. Big ups for updating for iOS 11+, and not just removing it from the app store. Good one all round
