This update includes an exciting new archeological discovery. In January of 2021 it was announced that archeologists had found purple fabric from the time of David and Solomon. Purple fabric is mentioned as a premiere luxury of the Old Testament time period. Purple dyed fabric is mentioned more than 50 times in Scripture. Having vivid purple fabric discovered shows the quality of such fabric from even fading over 3,000 years ago. This addition is our 164th artifact in the app. Enjoy experiencing the world of the Bible!

Addition of many new photos of biblical locations. Yes, we mainly are showing where every location in the Bible occurs on modern satellite maps. We also, however, have hundreds of photos from the ground of these locations. Many of these photos have historical significance and have been sourced from national archives. Enjoy many new photos in the app!

This fixes a major bug introduced in the previous update preventing the searching feature from working. The code is now updated and is working better than ever. Developer Kevin Morey is the best! Thank you Kevin for working on this ASAP until it was all fixed.

Thank you for everyone who is spreading word of the app! It's been in the App Store for years but is getting more downloads than ever!

This is a purely content update. Several descriptions have been moved from the ISBE lengthy descriptions to more straightforward descriptions throughout the app. The Smith Bible Dictionary was used heavily for many succinct location descriptions.

Addition of several historical photos from Library of Congress, Jordan and Israel's National Photo Archives. Getting close to having images on the ground for every location mentioned in the Bible.

This is also a major update for the code base of the app. It's now using the most updated version of Apple's development code.

In Revelation 2:13 Jesus mentions to the church in Pergamum that they live in the city of Satan's Throne. That throne has been discovered and for over a hundred years it's been in a museum in Berlin, Germany. The app adds the "Pergamum Altar" in this update. Simply go to Revelation 2 in the app to see this incredible artifact.

Additionally, all 118 locations mentioned in the book of Acts now has photos for each location in the app.

Thank you so much for using the app! I hope you enjoy the update.

Addition of a great artifact found in 1984 which shows the silversmith guild in Ephesus which fought against Paul in Acts 19 was alive and well even still a hundred years after Paul passed through town. Find the artifact in the app by searching "silversmith" in the artifact tab or by simply going to Acts 19 then going to the artifact tab.

Also added many more locations to Numbers 34 where the Lord is showing Moses the boundary of the promised land. The app does a great job quickly letting you see and explore the boundaries of the land.

Hope you enjoy this update!

This is the David's mighty men update! David's 37 mighty men came from 35 different places. Some of the places are ancient empires (like the Hittites) and others are cities, villages and regions. This update gives information for every location of his mighty men, photos from every place and also any artifacts in any museum in the world that supports these 37 mighty men. There are currently 9 artifacts in the app that help confirm these events. Update the app and then go to 2 Samuel 23 to engage this section of Scripture!

This update is a purely photographic update. It adds several photos to the locations mentioned in the Bible. We are working toward having at least one photo for every one of the 770+ locations mentioned in the Bible. Some of the locations have many photos preserving a photo archive as many locations have changed quite a bit over the last 150 years. Enjoy engaging the world of the Bible.

This update is mainly a photo update. The app is more and more storing historical photos of hundreds of biblical locations. Photos of the holy land go back to the 1850s. Modernization and industrialization have changed many biblical sites. Historical photos help show areas much closer to how they looked in biblical times. This app update includes photos for 50 locations. Enjoy engaging the world of the Bible.

This update adds photos to 30+ locations in the app. Many of the photos help preserve historic photos of these locations.

The North American Mission Board reported this past week the findings of a massive study of their 46,000 churches. They found personal "Bible Engagement" to be the #1 factor leading to discipleship and evangelism in the churches. This app is designed to be part of educating and encouraging a lifetime of Bible engagement.

Please invite your friends, family and co-workers to download the app and encourage them to stay near to the entirety of the Bible. It should go without saying since the app is free but I make no money off this app.

This update adds three important artifacts to the app. This update takes us up to 160 verified artifacts that directly support the story of the Bible. Each artifact has the GPS location for where it exists today on planet earth. There are also now 771 locations with GPS locations, photos and descriptions.

The three artifacts added are: 1.) Petra. This is the unbelievable city of the Edomites. The Edomites are descended from Esau, Jacob's brother. This brings incredible detail to verses like Jeremiah 49:16. 2.) The Babylonian Chronicle details the destruction of Nineveh. Since Nahum is all about the prophesied destruction of Nineveh, this 3,000 year old artifact is amazing to show the fulfillment of Nahum's prophecy. 3.) The Simmons Ark Tablet is a hard-to-imagine 3,700 year old tablet. The tablet is the oldest document we have that has survived which explains the flood, the ark, and animals going on the ark two-by-two. The fact is in Babylonian ancient cuneiform writing is fascinating as the flood story is truly a story deep in the memory of many civilizations.

Just search: Petra; Babylonian Chronicle; and Simmons Ark Tablet to see these artifacts and read more about them.

This update is adding two artifacts to the app and fixing some typos.

The Nuzi Texts are thousands of documents found in 1925 that date back to 1450 BCE. The library of texts show so much cultural background about life in the middle-east during the time of the Patriarchs of Israel (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob). Search Nuzi in the artifacts section of the app to engage this artifact.

The Balawat Gates are the other artifact added to the app. These date back to 850 BCE and shed a lot of light on the time of Shalmaneser, the Phoenicians and Tyre...all of which are mentioned in the Old Testament.

Enjoy these priceless treasures pointing to the historical reliability of the Bible.

This update adds two fascinating artifacts to the app. The Ugarit Texts are a collection of 1,500 documents dated to the fourteenth century BCE. The documents are all explaining the life of the Canaanites. It's a fascinating window into the world of this culture in the years leading up to the Israelites being led to settle in the land of Canaan. Many of the Ugarit texts are in the Louvre, in Paris. Go to the artifacts tab and simply type: Ugarit

The second artifact is the collection of 3,000 tablets from the Eighteenth century BCE discovered in Mari. Mari was the capital of the Amorite empire in modern day Syria. Similar to the Ugaritic texts, the Mari texts show in great detail the life and times of an empire very similar to what we read of the life and times of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Go to the artifacts tab in the app and simply type: Mari

Two important artifacts are being added to the app in this update. Both of these artifacts are on display at the British Museum in London. First, is the Rosetta Stone. Egypt plays a role at several important turning points in the Bible (Abraham went there during a drought, Joseph helped save Egypt and Israel during deep drought, Moses led Israel out of Egypt, and Jesus was taken to Egypt so Herod wouldn't kill him). The Rosetta Stone opened up to us the language of ancient Egypt. It helped us understand so much of a country used so much at important times in the Bible. Secondly, this update adds the Lachish Letters artifact. In the 1930s we discovered letters written by military commanders who were preparing for Nebuchadnezzars attack on Lachish. Both of these artifacts are helpful to affirm our understanding and reliability of Scripture. Under the artifacts tab search for these two new artifacts to engage the world of the Bible.

This is an emergency update fixing a core bug that was preventing a majority of the app from working. A critical section of code in the app that's been working beautifully for a couple years stopped being allowable code by Apple. The app started crashing yesterday when trying to do basically anything in the app. A huge thanks to Kevin from Future Haus programmers in Oklahoma City for some emergency code work to get the app back up and running ASAP!

Enjoy engaging the world of the Bible.

Improved 30+ of the artifacts in the app by adding: official museum ID numbers; names and photos of archeologists who discovered the artifacts; photos of museums; and many other details which will help in the future to browse the artifacts in future app releases being designed right now.

Also added more than 50 photos from The Temple Dictionary of the Bible. Ewing and Thompson from 1910AD. These historic photos are a treasure as they occurred before industrialization and urban sprawl so a lot of the photos capture the area more like how the area was at the time of the Bible.

Enjoy engaging the world of the Bible!

The settings section in the bottom right corner (when you swipe down on the main window on the bottom) had stopped working in one of the most recent iOS updates. The code has been written in this update to restore that functionality. You can now switch between Standard, Hybrid, and Satellite map modes.

Addition of the location Ophir where several times in Scripture vast amounts of high quality gold are received from Ophir to Israel. A fascinating artifact was discovered in 1946 showing proof that in the 8th century BCE high quality gold shipments were being made from Ophir to Israel. This is an artifact I don't see very often in the books on archeology and the Bible so it is good to bring this item back to public awareness.

This update also includes many little tweaks to make the app as accurate and exhaustive as possible.

Enjoy!

The biggest addition to this update is the recent Isaiah inscription announced by archeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar this past week. This is a truly amazing artifact. The app has the artifact connect to every chapter in the book of Isaiah and also in the many places Isaiah is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments.

The field of biblical archeology continues to be such a rich and ever changing place.

Enjoy the update

Added the Cedar of Lebanon artifact in this update. Also the addition of more details for many of our now 149 artifacts connected throughout the app.

Added the locations: Valley of Rephaim; Mount Perazim; Goiim; Mesha; Sephar and Lasha to the app. These locations can be found by searching in the all locations tab or in Scripture. Three of them (Mesha, Sephar and Lasha) appear in Genesis 10.

Enjoy engaging the world of Scripture!

mlw310,
Good; minor complaints
I downloaded this about 4 months ago, when I began a daily geographical study of God’s Word. It’s been a fascinating study, and this app has helped considerably. It’s not always 100% accurate, though, consider for example the location of Mount Sinai. As always, one must use common, logical sense and careful read what the Bible says if they are to learn the truth. You can’t always count on apps to do everything for you. But I really like how the biblical locations are superimposed over modern maps. Like others have commented, an outline of the ancient city/country would be superior to a simple pin, though I realize not all ancient geographic borders are currently known.

It Will Change Your Life and Perspective
I've had this App for bout 2 years now and it has changed the way I view everything narrative in the Bible..it gives you so much better understanding of context and logistics making the Bible real and come alive. For Instance, did you know that Abraham brought Isaac to what is known as today at the very site of the dome of the Rock and was also where the Temples were located..it just makes you connect the past present and future..and a big thumbs up to the developers who updated it to have a parallel scripture option to click the location right on the text...saves you the time of looking everything up (can't figure out how to manually search for a location any more) guess it would be nice to have both options on the iPad). I can still search manually on my iPhone 4s but hey no complaints really really love this App!!!!
MnicknameC,
Good reference
Great for getting an idea of the general (sometimes specific) locations mentioned in the Bible, thank you!

A suggestion: some of the references do not make sense - such as crucifixion being linked to a Philistine cemetery. It would be nice to have a ‘report’ or ‘flag’ button so that users can identify possible inaccuracies. I realize that there could be false positives so perhaps require a brief description before submitting?

Still, a great app, thank you for the Bible context enhancement!
Supermom46,
Thank You For Such A Blessed Resource!
Mr. Kimberley, this is the app that I have been looking for! You have brought the locations in the Bible to life! This app helps me to understand the Word better. It helps me to visualize the areas that are referenced, giving me an idea of how difficult travel must have been for the Israelites leaving Egypt or what it must have been like for Abraham to leave his relatives and go where he was sent by God. It helps me to understand customs, traditions, and attire. Thank you very much!
christion BV,
App pictures
Thanks for fixing the pictures. I want to say that I have been showing this app with all my instructors at school and they are looking into it more. There is one instructor that works for Christian evidence bible passages, and he started to use the app apart from his class. Since then he noticed some things are not that accurate because no one really knows where the upper room is an all or that but it's a good idea. If that makes sense.
HM167,
Simply the Best!
I discovered Bible Map as I was preparing for a first visit to Israel. It was absolutely indispensable in my understanding of how the Bible connects to the land. I went through 1st and 2nd Samuel using this app, and discovered so many useful things. It rejuvenated my regular Bible study and greatly enriched my time in the Holy Land. I found myself recommending Bible Map to random strangers wherever we stood in line! Great job and thank you for coming up with the idea and putting it together!
Evan_13,
A VERY helpful tool
This is perhaps the single best secondary Bible to have. Beyond your daily reader, this Bible helps map out the story. Names no longer just disappear into the page, but live on a map conveniently next to the text.

For those interested in studying the Bible, context is essential and this app helps give some geographical perspective along with archeological evidence. It even maps out traveling paths found in the Bible (e.g. - the traditions Exodus path out of Egypt). VERY WELL DONE!!!
Jessani,
So Important to have
This app is one of the coolest apps I have when it comes to scripture. People read God’s word without going deeper into seeing where the actual locations are in which the Bible’s history takes place. And also being able to see certain objects for example the statue of Baal it helps you to visualize what you read. LOVE THIS APP!
RPW49,
Amazing!
This app is exactly what I was looking for to visualize events in my Bible reading. Clean, intuitive interface, beautiful legible maps, … just cannot express how impressed I am with it. I genuinely wish there were some way to pay the author for it (I don’t see any ‘in-app offers/charges’). He truly has given us a blessing!
keithgreen,
Once I was blind but….
I always wanted to be able to visualize the landscape during the Old and New Testament time period. Your app has helped me to better appreciate the location of many events referenced in the Bible. Is there an option for note taking? I’m am especially grateful for combining the map with Scripture.
