s mn,
Good not Great
The bio strap app did what it claimed to do in tracking sleep and HR parameters though it could sometimes be balky to sync up. Battery was okay but not as good as some of the newer devices. It seemed to go for about 36 hours on a charge. The device fits okay though not completely unobtrusive during sleep. Activity tracking is minimal without the shoe pod, and the shoe pod is a pain to place and keep in place. I ended up losing mine on a run, and it didn’t fit certain shoes like cycling shoes with straps instead of laces. Whether it is more or less accurate than other apps is likely depending on who’s marketing claims you go with. Finally, at its current price, I think it lacks value - too expensive for such a device.
MyStuff2 Pro=GR8,
Biostrap is a great health monitoring tool
There are several reasons that My wife and I like using BioStrap. My wife likes using it for both tracking her exercise and monitoring her sleep cycles. For exercise I prefer my iWatch but for sleep monitoring I like Biostrap the best. I am a 72 year old male and I have been struggling with memory issues partially because of age, partially because of bad diet choices and partially because of not enough deep sleep. Biostrap has a number of excellent monitoring tools that provide you with significant feedback regarding the amount of deep sleep vs light sleep vs awake time per day, week or month. Also resting heart rate and heart rate variable as well oxygen saturation and many other measurements. The hardware and software have helped me to drastically improve the amount of Deep sleep that I get each night which in turn is helping to improve my memory, thinking and clarity. I have it a rating of 4 instead of 5 because they are not very clear on how they determine the sleep score and recovery score so it’s difficult to understand how I could best improve those scores.
SCMurphy11,
Months later, still very disappointed.
I’ve had my Biostrap for more than six months now. My biggest complaints are:
1. Automatic sleep processing. For whatever reason, it seems to think I’m sleeping at times when I’m not.. and sometimes doesn’t detect when I am actually asleep. Those inconsistencies cause skewed data which definitely doesn’t make me want to subscribe to the sleep lab service.
2. Activity tracking. Training exercises can be a major pain and frequently fails. I have tried trading things like box jumps, cleans, clean & jerk, snatch, etc.. and all failed. I’ve performed 12-15 reps only to have the app report that no repeatable reps were detected. I’ve completely given on workout tracking, especially CrossFit, as it is completely useless. (This includes using the Shoe Pod, which I no longer even take off the charger.
3. Background sync doesn’t seem to work. I have to open the app for the band to star syncing. I bought a new phone a few days ago and the problem happens with it as well. I have background sync enabled in settings, but it doesn’t seem to matter.
Bill the critic,
Not impressed with Heart Rate and O2
I'm playing with this for my first time today and my unfortunate impression is that I will return it unsatisfied. This only records heart rate and oxygen saturation every 10 minutes!! That's very disappointing and to me, completely useless. It shouldn't even measure these if it's not more frequent, in my opinion. I set a function to make it record more often but it's poorly documented on how frequent it will measure. To the company,

"please hold your breath for 10 minutes and if you can't, tell me how useful the oxygen saturation test is. "

Exercise and sleeping both cause big changes to heart rate and oxygen saturation. For example, sometimes in a stressful exercise tend to hold our breat. Sleeping with snoring or apnea issues can cause you to stop breathing too. In either case, heart rates increase and oxygen levels decrease but these are very brief and never going to be recorded if the recording interval is 10 minutes. Personally I think you should record these continuously if a user wants them but every 30 seconds is about a minimum to me.

I will continue looking for a device that can properly track my heart rate, oxygen and movements with better granularity.

Update - I may have spoken / reviewed too soon! I tried manual recordings last night and it appears they're may be more frequent recordings when you records at least sleep manually. I can tell how frequent but I can find the clear fluctuations.
Zippy Blue Dogz,
Valuable health tool
I have been extremely happy with this device. The information is very helpful for achieving my health goals. HRV is a measure that few devices give, and it’s valuable for understanding the impact of workouts and how well you are recovering so you know if you need more rest or are ready to hit it hard. Or, if you are getting sick!

It’s also valuable, along with resting heart rate to understand the impact of your diet on your body. This has really opened my eyes and as a result, caused me to think twice about what I eat and drink.

Sleep is another valuable data set, and again, you can see how lack of sleep, or great sleep affects your body in multiple ways.

It’s important to understand this is not “instant gratification” data, the value is in the trends, and the trend graphs are very good.

Finally, the app is constantly improving and additional features are being added. There is a vibrant group on Facebook that the developers monitor and respond to. They do the occasional Facebook live so questions can be asked and answered, and they take action on the feedback.

It’s a great team to work with, and a great device!
Michael Corey,
Not Useful for HR Zone training
The innovation behind the device is an outstanding idea however there are a few things missing
1. If you are a person that does HR zone training this device is not for you. It does not measure active heart rate and therefore you can never know when zone (fat burning, cardio, etc)
2. You can not see any of your activity measurements on the device itself. You have to open the app and see how you did.

This has become a device that I leave by the bed to use for sleep monitoring however, since I am not using it to track any activity using it as a way to track my recovery rate is not being accomplished either.
Kyecartpark,
Earns all five stars
Biostrap is a great product. The band is really comfortable and I like the unobtrusive design. Bluetooth connection to the app was effortless and is automatic after the initial setup. The app has an appealing interface and the amount of information is incredible. The Biostrap activity, recovery and sleep scores are helping me focus on all aspects of fitness and well-being. As advertised, activity tracking is first rate and the ability to compare exercise sessions is a nice feature. Five stars for me with the only suggestions being a larger arm band for the HRM and the ability to sync a Bluetooth scale to the app.
Lawdog0010,
Like it a lot
I’ve had my Biostrap for about 3 weeks. I like it a lot. The sleep tracking seems very accurate. I like that it tracks hrv, spo2, and gives you an idea of when to take it easy. Customer service has been superb, helping me out with a couple issues (one of them my fault). Not the greatest for tracking workouts, but haven’t tried “training” any movements. Also, it’s sometimes difficult to get the charger to charge the band and I have to move it around to finally take. But pretty small complaints.
shabeep,
Very unimpressive.
App is buggy and difficult to navigate, and the data recording is *highly* suspect. For instance, why should it take me fifteen minutes to figure out how to change the orientation from right wrist to left wrist? And why is the FAQ blank — are there truly no frequently asked questions? And why is the HRV chart blank? And why would my 30-mile bike ride log only 11 miles, and an activity score of 81 for the day, but when I drive the family four hours in the car on the way to vacation (and nothing else that day), the activity score is 98?

Anyway, this feels like it ought to have potential but simply fails to deliver. I’ve heard great things about Whoop from literally everyone — considering making the switch.
Cheeeselord,
Bootstrap for life
I love and chose biostrap for a few reasons.

First, it’s lowkey and lightweight design. It doesn’t draw too much attention so it looks good with any clothing and the lightness makes me feel free while other bracelet accessories drag me down simply because I notice their presence.

Second, the heart rate variability is a biometric which I find helpful in my quest for better health. A huge part of health as happiness is stress management, and I have found that stress strongly correlates to my hr variability. The tracking of this biometric helps me stay aware of my stress levels when I am often too stress to be aware and attentive to it myself.

These are the benefits unique to the biostrap that I’ve found. The other functions like the automatic tracking of sleep work perfectly as promised. Overall I’m very happy with my choice with biostrap!
