Description

With the Blast Vision Ball Flight app, you have the power to visualize the results of your baseball, softball, and golf swing from the convenience of your mobile phone. You’ll get the most important features of a professional launch monitor to help you understand the effect of your swing, without the expense. Blast Vision will display your launch angle, exit velocity / ball speed, and estimated ball flight distance, providing you with real-time analysis and voice feedback. Best of all, there’s no charge to try it out for the first two weeks.*

Simply place your phone on a tripod, setup the camera, and hit a few balls into a net in your backyard, batting cage, golf range, or golf club fitting facility. When you’re done with your session, you’ll find each video individually clipped with your stats overlaid on top to show you a visual representation of each hit. You can review your stats, replay your video clips in slow-mo, check your ball flight spray chart to see where you hit the ball, and save your best clips to your camera roll or send to a coach for feedback.

If you’re looking for a fun challenge, take turns competing with one of your friends to see who can hit the ball the farthest, has the best ball placement control, or best combination of stats, averaged across a session.

To ensure the best Blast Vision experience, the following devices are supported:
-- iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X - running iOS 10.x, iOS 11.x
-- iPad Pro 9.7", Pro 12.9", Pro 10.5", Pro 12.9" (2nd gen) - running iOS 10.x, iOS 11.x

HQ12987,
Works Amazing with Two Additions
My daughter and I spent a frustrating hour playing with this app in my garage during her last BP session. Inconsistent exit velo and only a 10% capture rate.

The app works precisely as advertised, however you must eliminate camera all vibration and help your phone camera identify the ball though-out flight. Follow in app setup process and use
A) a tripod
B) a clean backdrop with good contrast to the ball

Without this the app is complete trash. Only 4 stars because I do wish that the app integrated the BlastMotion sensor data.
Baseball_Coach_22,
Not very Accurate
First off I love the concept and thought it would be an amazing tool and it kind of is. In terms of exit velocity it is horrendous with exit speeds over 75. I have tried it at varied distances trying to be as precise as possible. Tried it during live bp, front toss, and tee work. I must be coaching the most baseball gifted hitters in the world. Most reading are upper 90s and into the 100s. I don’t think my guys are that gifted. Compared to my radar gun the readings are juiced to say the least.

In terms of launch angle that is very precise and it has been a good tool to use so far. But for our program we are looking to train intent and exit velocity is a big staple to track our training and development.

Again great concept hopefully we can see improvements and consistency to the exit velocity readings.
Andrew Sundberg,
Broke my screen trying to use
I like the idea of the technology, but while trying to line up the ball with the circle for my second attempt my phone fell from where it was sitting causing the screen to absolutely shatter. I see the reasoning behind the phone needing to know the distance from the ball to the camera but I don’t see the reason why the ball needs to be lined up perfectly with the circle on screen to get an accurate reading. Also in the one swing I got in before my phone fell I actually somehow managed to line up the ball and circle and I didn’t get any feedback from the one swing I took!
DJ Mustachio,
Lots user-effort to turn this toy into a tool
Like many others, I struggled with inconsistent captures and inaccuracy on the swings that actually were captured. However, I was determined to make use of this for the private lessons I offer to friends and family so I made the following tweaks. 1) I hung a black tarp along the back wall making it easier for the device the differentiate the ball from the background. 2) I bought cheap portable LED flood lights and experimented with different lighting arrangements to increase my capture rate. It can’t be too dark or too bright. 3) My hitters have to wear black or darker colored outfits, especially shorts so the app can differentiate between the ball and clothing. With these changes my capture rate went up to about 85% and at least 75% accuracy.

One feature that could be added is the ability to edit inaccurate captures after the fact. Inaccurate readings are usually a result of one of two mistakes, misreading the starting/ending location of the ball and incorrectly reading which frame of the video footage the hitter initiates contact. The ability to edit inaccurate reads after the fact by telling the application where the ball starting/ending points are and/or select the frame of impact and final frame where the ball is visible would allow me to correct any inaccurate readings after the fact.

I know this isn’t going to be able to recreate some of the 20k-30k radar systems, but the changes I recommend would make this app a more reliable data tool. I would gladly pay a small price for access to after-the-fact editing features, while leaving the existing app functionality as free.
Kpl36,
Frustrating!
I have tried to get this to work for two sessions now and nothing registers. Very frustrating.

Blast Vision
Absolutely love the Blast Motion Sensor and App.
I tried the Blast Vision and after 1 hr of complete failure my daughter and I gave up.
We could not get the camera to track the ball.
Let me know if there’s a hack for it. Great tool to use in the winter and early spring.
5,000,
Not consistent
Worked nice with free app once purchased all over the place. Used for golf.
HG303,
Excellent App For Specific Use Cases
I’m a novice golfer, and I have been looking for a way to get instant feedback on my evolving swing without shelling out big bucks for a launch monitor. This app does an excellent job of providing barebones launch monitor features at an incredibly low price point.

The app will provide ball speed, launch angle, and estimated distance. A “spray chart” will also estimate the direction of your shots. The spray chart isn’t particularly accurate, likely because the app uses video-only to calculate its stats. It failed to accurately track the direction of my egregious slices but it still provided a good distance estimation. The distance estimator is quite useful and is a marquee feature. While it will occasionally throw out wildly inaccurate readings or miss tracking a shot altogether, it is usually close enough to allow me to determine my current club gapping. The stats are spoken aloud by Siri, and come through clearly when I use headphones.

A tripod and measuring tape are necessary accessories. Be sure to find a tripod with adjustable legs and solid footing. A flimsy one will blow over at an outdoor range and take your phone with it. The app requires a minimum 6 feet from the phone to the line on which you are swinging, and telling the app the current distance from the ball will give you more accurate stats. If you can accommodate it, the app will track from up to 12 feet away, which allows you to get more of your body in the shot.

Unfortunately, the setup requires that the camera be set at a right angle from the angle of flight. If you practice at a crowded range, you may struggle to find 6 feet of lateral space on the swing line.

The app auto-tracks once activated, and it will only record the swing itself. It’s impressive. The video is auto-clipped, and presented in mixed full speed with slow motion during the actual strike. I have already improved my drives by paying close attention to clips of my better swings. You will need to do some fiddling to adjust tracking between classes of clubs (eg: switching from Driver to wedges) the app is otherwise unobtrusive.

If you’re looking for a low-cost practice aid, buy this app, a tripod, and an external battery, and head to the range. You’ll likely be impressed with what a phone-based launch monitor can do.

Total scam
This thing doesn’t even track the ball. Do not install!
