Description

What is BlastSim?

BlastSim is a free app for calculation of area affected by nuclear explosion based on formulae researched by nuclear explosion archives. The software is intended for users who wish to know more about devastating effect of nuclear explosions which is useful for evacuation planning. This app makes it easy to predict possible affected areas for just a few taps.

This app can be used to experiment with the range of thermal radiation, the radius of radioactive fallout and the possible number of casualties. It includes a list of popular nuclear weapons in human history such as Little Boy, Fat Man and Tsar Bomba.

It is also possible to input custom yield of the weapon (in kilotons).

The list of formulae/reference papers used, which can be access from the menu section in the app,are on our website.

One problem
You should add a feature where you can change the type of bomb. Because you have no idea what bomb your throwing

Thank you, and i hope it was useful.
Haminator10,
Interesting, but some errors
Overall, this is a very interesting app. It is unique and really allows users to see the devastation that nuclear weapons could produce.
However, I still noticed some errors, specifically with the “estimated causalities” section. When using a nuke on Hawaii, I consistently got around 3.9 million causalities as an estimate. The current population of Hawaii is only about 1.5 million. I’m not sure if the app is trying to take into account tourists, but I don’t believe there is almost 4 million people on there main island of Hawaii at one time. That was just something I noticed though.
Overall, unique and interesting app.
CF898,
Bugs, missing features
This app has some bugs that need to be fixed. The most glaring one is that the casualty counter often disappears, or is completely covered by an ad.

The app also uses some pretty user-hostile methods to display ads. There are often ads shown that take up the entirety of the screen, with no timer showing how long you have to look at them to continue using the app, nor is there any way to close the ads when they eventually expire other than simply waiting and hoping that they somehow go away on their own.

It also needs to be updated to optionally keep a cumulative sum of the casualties from multiple detonations.
SnT1971,
Lacking necessary functionality
The interface seems less than user friendly. I have yet to see a functioning casualty count which seems to be a function it’s supposed to have. The calculated output doesn’t take into account the topography of the landscape, to distort realistically what the blast area would be. Nor does the app have any sort of automatic or manual data to incorporate winds and temps in regards to how they would affect the fallout, which this app also doesn’t project either. It seems to just make circles for you.
"MERICA",
Very surprised!!!
When I downloaded this app I thought it was going to be laggy and way to complicated but to my surprise this app is very good. It’s easy to use and gives you a good calculation of casualties, of course the casualties are to the blast because the app doesn’t take radiation into account. Although it would be very nice to have radiation poisoning taken into account. Overall this is a great app keep up the good work my dude.
Cowpens06,
Great App - Except for intrusive adds
This is a great application. However, I find it almost unworkable because Google throws so many adds at you they either, distract your work, take over the screen, shut down the app dumping your work, or try and sell you an add blocker.

There needs to be an add free version of this for a reasonable cost.

1 problem
There is one problem that I want fixed it’s that the casualty number keeps saying error and I just want it fixed
Davy Reznov,
Best I can get.
I couldn’t get the online nuke map so this was the best app I found. Can’t add in other factors such as wind or whether the blast occurs in the sky or ground. But other than that I really like it. Not a huge selection of different nukes but contains the most relevant and interesting ones from if not all most countries who design nukes.
Mojavegreen1,
Error issue
When i first got this, i liked it. Now it seems to have a major issue. I think this app was created in russia. When calculating the number of casualties for Moscow, all I get is an Data unknown error message, yet when i do the same on Washington dc i get the results on casualties. A bit one sided.
Skulldude07,
Update
I like using this app. It’s kind of fun to see how the future could play out. The only issue with the app is that it doesn’t take in effect the radiation. Most of the bombs would cause a lot of radiation. This leads to a not accurate population loss. An update with this feature would be nice!
