bmcvey,
Awesome Game!
Let me first and foremost say that this is now one of my all-time favorite games on the iPhone. While it lacks in any sound or sound effects the gameplay is very hands on and the random levels are challenging and leave you wanting to go back and replay it more and more.

Suggestions for future updates:

- Main Menu (ft. Play, Resume, High Scores, Settings, Help, Exit)
- Sound / Sound Effects (but still allow the user to control these in a settings panel so they can listen to their own music)
- High Score (show both local and global leaderboard)
- Help (listing of the types of enemies, and listing of powerups)
- Add powerups (multiple guns, explosive charges, lasers, seek-n-destroy missiles, planetary pulse, planet life boost, allied ships providing support)
- Alternate Modes of Play (ex. Timed Challenge... complete a mission in an alloted time)
- Challenge friends directly or at least offer and "email a friend a challenge"
- Look and Feel (the blue and red of the game is great, but you need to have a tighter adherence to the style in the pause button and high score screens)

Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing how this app develops out!
Acousticaperture,
Update Didn't Fix It
I’ve had this game since my first iPhone 3G in 2010 and it’s always been one of my favorites. However, I haven’t been able to play this game in several years because of incompatibility with modern iOS. Suddenly, and update comes from the developer several days ago, in 2019, claiming to bring compatibility to the game with modern phones, however the game still does not launch. I thought the developer had stopped working on the game, however that doesn’t seem to be the case, although, whatever compatibility tweaks were incorporated in the latest update were not implemented correctly.
D4wntorment,
Still a great game
This game was my favorite back when I got my first iPod touch many years ago. It warms my heart to see it’s still around and still works on my new phone.
QuickWit,
Very original game
I looked at the title to see if it was another TD type game, but it's something very different. You've got to keep your planet safe from a huge alien invasion. To do this you tilt your phone/touch back and forth to shoot them down... oddly enough I couldn't help but thinking about movies about the miracle of birth while playing (you'll see what I mean when you play it).

The game plays fast and the graphics are simple yet very cool and futuristic at the same time. the shooting is easy once you get the hang of it, but it is certainly not an easy game... the challenge is there big time.

For me one of the best features was how they handled the "health meter". In this game you've got a count of how many lives your planet has -- and then you watch it go down as the aliens get past you. It's one thing to see your health bar go down, but another thing all together to see that you missing that one guy just cost 100,000 people their lives! I was really freaking out when I'd realized that I'd already lost over 4 million people! That beats the old health bar hands down!

You also will have different angles on the various levels and you even end up with your planet in the middle and you having to rotate your device 360 degrees to fend off the alien scum. Yes... you will be swearing by the end of the game... but in a good way.

It's a well spent buck and wonderful way to kill some time -- and keep the planet alive.
AlbieOne,
Easily 5 Stars!!!
Blue Defense is one of the most visually appealing and different games you'll ever see, yet the gameplay which for the most part involves tilting your device is simple. The first thing that struck me when I first started playing this game about month ago was how the visuals remind me of something else...you'll see similar user comments. With the new added levels and sound, Blue Defense and the dev's newest game Blue Attack (what I call the Blue Series) should be in your gaming library if you're into the shmup genre. As you progress through the levels, the orientation and the game itself changes so don't let the screenshots fool you. You'll go from portrait to landscape and vice versa, and soon you'll soon you be holding the device upside down. The tilt controls are highly responsive, and while simple to use, will be tested as you progress through each level. Besides the sound which adds a whole new dimension and feel, you can now choose which level you want to play with, either to start or just to rack up new scoring records. But the dev goes one step beyond simply listing levels...he uses mini screenshots of each of the screens similar to what you would see on your digital camera when you're browsing pics. Like I said, the visuals and design that went into this is what sets the Blue Series apart.
JuzzyP,
Beautifully simple, simply beautiful.
I am usually very wary of accelerometer use in standard game genres, as the control scheme can often get absurdly frantic in a game like a shoot em up. On the other end of the spectrum, on screen controls often obscure the action (looking at you Real Soccer). But this game's simple control-idea is flawlessly executed. The tilt required to play is minor (until you get to the 360 degree levels at least), and the firing is (thankfully) automatic - and indeed spraying a hail of shiny blue-white laser-fire up the screen is immensely satisfying. It is helped admirably by the silky smooth animation and the simple yet very pretty enemy-glow visuals.

Another interesting aspect is that the levels are not all pre-programmed, although the first few seem to be very algorithmically similar to get you into the game. This means you still get surprises during replay even when you can't make it past a certain wave.

This is a very smooth accelerometer based shoot em up. You won't be disappointed.
crustian,
So perfect
This game really is perfection and I'm so excited to follow it's evolution. I agree with many reviews about suggestions for weapon power ups which I think will make for "funner" gaming experience - I personally don't care for sound or leaderboards but an increased variety of enemies and strategies as you progress through the levels would be great.

Also here's a unique recommendation...imagine that our real time isn't 1 for 1 with the in game time; therefore a 10 minute real time battle could actually be a 10,000 year battle of the planet in-game. This would allow for the 'population' to grow over time and would provide incentive for the player to keep the population protected and high - seeing as a larger population grows exponentially while a small one takes longer to increase. It would add an interesting dynamic to the gameplay. Who knows, there could even be a small 'time counter' to track how many years the battle has been raging. Super epic.
miracle.eli,
one of the best at any price. period.
Like many reviewers, I found this app while searching for more Tower Defense games and took the plunge based on the incredible screenshots. This game delivers without disappointment. I've purchased lots of other apps in the $2-$10 range and this is the one I play the most, hands down. I love the graphics (they remind me of TRON), the unique use of the accelerometer, and the gameplay appeals to casual gamers like me, or anyone who likes '80s arcade-style shooters.

Bottom line: this is possibly the best buck you can spend in the app store, and John says that an update is on the way with even more cool features. Get it.
Odd24/7,
So I tried the lite version first...
...and I HAD to get the full version! Just bullets shooting up? It's so much more than that!
Pros: amazing old-school graphics (retro, yet fresh), smooth-as-silk control, interesting enemies, cool game variants, and enough nail-biting tension to keep you coming back time and again!
Cons: I still can't beat my own high score!
Overall, this is an amazing game! Lots of fun for hours, or just jump in and play. Congrats to the developer on an awesome game! It's got it all, and I can't get enough!
alfa-tigr-meg-1,
invaders+missile command+geometry wars=blue defense!
this game is great. the accelerometer is spot on and it even vibrates when you get hit and you can play it along with any of your itunes music (i recommend any type of techno). there are at least 200 levels for sure, but im sure it keeps going. personally i dont know how you could even possibly get that far, but anywho if my title didnt interest you even in the slightest then its not for you, but if it did... hohohoho you shouldnt even be reading this anymore. GET IT!
