leinad6,
Works but with some unusual UX solutions
Connect to a pair of Beoplay 18s through a Node 2i. This app has actually been a bit of a pleasant surprise as I’ve used so many terrible music apps before, by B&O, Yamaha, etc. in contrast, this one actually works and plays both music from my NAS as well as from Tidal without any issues, very stable (fingers crossed).

My only feedback would be that the app itself is better on iPad than on iPhone — unless you understand how the logic of the app works (which isn’t completely intuitive) it’s easy to get lost on the iPhone app.

Two main things, you have your Library which is a type of home in the app, but that’s only for local files, if you have a music streaming service like Tidal, that ends up hidden behind a hamburger menu. If you enter there, you go into a type of “second home/library” just for Tidal. The app does a good job of replicating Tidal’s functionality. The separation also makes sense on some level but would be nice to have a direct link to Tidal from the home screen.

Unless you know it’s there, the “playlist” is not intuitively present or obvious. Would be nice to be able to swipe left and right on the full screen play screen to get to the playlist. Here, it would also be useful to be able to drag and drop to change the order of songs in the playlist — feels like a pretty basic functionality.
JoshK52,
New to BluOS
This app and the Node 2i are outstanding. Sound quality is a step up from Sonos having tested both on top quality sources. The app is snappy and responsive. My whole experience with this ecosystem has really just impressed me and that is hard to do. All the streaming is easy to setup. Being a techno freak it gives a great balance of allowing you to tweak things and being to “Apple” locked down. The setup was simple- follow the app and everything just works. This app and all the features are laid out differently than others such as Sonos. Once you become familiar with the operation, it makes sense and works well. Currently, there is a NAS song base, and 8 streaming providers in the setup we have been evaluating. At least 30 favorites setup from those sources with everything working properly. The network access and catalog has been very good as well. Even the integration with Alexa was easy and works as well as most Alexa products do. Everything I’ve experienced is inline with the hi-fi reviews on the net.
MediaDownstream,
Ignore the bad reviews
I'm stunned how many bad or mediocre reviews are on here ... this app has been fantastic and I've been using it every day for the past 3-4 years ... have a Vault, two Nodes and one Mini speaker that we move about the house and use quite often on the backyard patio ... all work great ... of course, you have to do the typical hardware updates, but it is very easy to keep things up to date (you get alerts when you start the app if an update is needed) - one could say the updates happen too often, but I think it's a sign of how much Bluesound cares ... and then, there's the sound quality - streaming Tidal or other high res audio files through high end stereos or high end speakers - some of the BEST sound quality I have ever experienced ... this statement coming from a major audiophile who has B&W Nautilus speakers on one system and Golden Ear speakers on the other ... I highly recommend the Bluesound system

Don’t listen to the haters: it does the job
I have three BluOS devices at my house, and have been a BluOS user for 3+ years. Having read many of the negative reviews, it looks like some negative ones are actually reviews of Bluesound hardware (some legit, some definitely not), others are for problems I’ve never seen ever before (blank screens, playlist issues, etc.), and some are seemingly legitimate complaints. What baffles me is that I can be a years-long heavy user and be pretty happy with the app, and yet it seems to be getting awful reviews. I can’t speak to the accuracy and veracity of other reviews, but I am able to use the app to do everything it is supposed to do, and while it’s not the best, most intuitive design ever, I’m used to it now and it does what it needs to do quite well.

Solid 4 stars, and I’ll surely continue to be a BluOS user for years to come.
Bert Larr,
App works pretty good overall
For the most part the app works pretty good to control my Node 2i but there are a couple of bugs. Not sure though if it’s the app’s fault or the streamer. Really just two issues. One, occasionally when starting a song the first second or two gets cut off. I am using an external DAC and made the setting adjustment to reflect that but it still has an issue. Not every time but enough to make note of it. Second, I created a Halloween playlist on Tidal for Halloween night. Scary sounds and all. Worked great then I deleted the playlist. Every once in awhile one of those scary sounds plays on my other playlist. I thought it was deleted but it’s embedded in there somewhere. I’ve gone through and deleted them when they come up but they won’t go away. They only play when using Tidal with the Node 2i and app. When I use Tidal with HEOS it doesn’t happen. Weird.
HS2012,
Best app interface
I have owned/tried Sonos, HEOS and Bluesound. For the app, I put BlueOS on the top. It has far more functionality than SONOS so it is inevitably more complex to design but it is well done.

HEOS has similar functionalities but USB attached often failed to read/play whatever reason where same drive worked flawlessly on Bluesound. HEOS fails to connect when I’m on satellite station of mesh network that is separate from the speaker, neither Bluesound nor sonos have this issue.

One thing Bluesound felt weaker from app stand point of view is its setup. I never struggled setting up these devices but for bluesound I had to try several times. I don’t know what made it work in the end but I know instruction with wifi setup was incorrect.

Overall, I love bluesound hardware and software but too bad I’d has a major flow for me just in SONOS or Bose that is audio lag/latency even direct aux input connection. Only system I encountered this to be not issue is HEOS speakers but not their soundbar HEOSBar. Bose and SONOS are aware of this delay and haven’t/can’t fix it so I believe Bluesound is also in the same situation. Another down point is Bluesound soundbar has no center channel so true 5.1. It also lacks HDMI input.

I wish there is a perfect system.
Craigb_in,
Good when it works, which is rare
I use it to control a Node 2i for accessing my music server and to stream Tidal and Qobuz. First I learned I can’t access the files on my server because they’re stored on an external drive and the streamer doesn’t support external drives (a streamer problem, not really this controller’s fault). But the vast majority of the time I try to use Qobuz or Tidal it acts like it can’t find them. I’d say it works about 40% of the time, and when it does, the connection won’t last more than 10-12 minutes. I know it’s not my network, because I have separate iOS controller apps for Qobuz and Tidal that operate independently of the BluOS controller, and they have no trouble connecting solidly and consistently. Problem with that, though, is the content has to be pushed to the Node via AirPlay, which limits resolution to standard red book cd quality. So much for either services hi-res files. I am *so* frustrated.
6294748101737363819,
Buggiest app ever
It is a true shame that good audio hardware is all but ruined by software bugs and an app that is so inconsistent and frustrating in its performance that it pretty much drains all joy out of the listening experience. I use two pulse 2s as a stereo pair in a vacation house, having acquired them in July 2018. Even leaving aside the fact that they’re already obsolete and effectively deprecated when it comes to playing local music off an iPhone, I now budget 1-2 hours per weekend for tinkering with the speakers and the app just to get the two to work and play well together every weekend I spend there. It used to be more until I worked out what amounts to a personal punch list of bug fixing steps since tech support was of no help despite at least a dozen exchanges. Would it kill Bluesound to display some evidence of sentience in their software engineering (going for baby steps here, as actual competence seems to be a utopian goal for this company)? It’s not just aesthetically and technically atrocious; it borders on unethical.
I don’t usually review,
Needs improvement
I use this app for a bluesound node. While the app works most of the time, the navigation for the interface is an absolute mess, lacks intuitive features, and frequently I just go directly to a different music app (tidal, etc) to play via airplay resulting in some degradation in sound quality. Setup was not as easy or simple as it should have been. Auto-detection of the source (switching between a music source vs hdmi earc for example) works half the time if at all. Needs direct support for more music services (soundcloud, bandcamp, etc). Sound settings and help need better explanations/interace. Overall a poor execution, but it mostly ‘works.’ Hoping the update which was announced in the spring of 2023 and supposed to be available in October 2023 will improve on the lacking aspects.
BluOS frustration,
Blue node Vault 2i
This has been a terrible purchase so far.
I bought this to rip my 3500 cds into the cloud and stream. Right from the jump I have had constant issues with the device not ripping large batch of cds at a time. Takes multiple try’s to get them to rip and sometimes not at all. Cds are fine as I tested them on my CD burner for my MAC. They burn fine. The online support is not helpful at all! I can’t speak to a live person EVER! I send emails at night or weekends when I’m not working and they reply when I am working. Asking me to do a remote session with them. The problem is I work Monday thru Friday until 5pm. Do I guess I am out of luck. I am going to try and return this to the dealer as it was expensive. It’s too bad because I really want it to work! But I can’t recommend BluOS or blue node to friends if I can’t get it working.
Thanks for listening if you still are lol
