Description

This free version of Bridge supports both Rubber Bridge and Chicago Bridge.
Three bidding systems currently: American Basic, SAYC and Basic ACOL.

Bridge is played by four players who form two partnerships. Players within a partnership face each other across a table. Traditionally, the players are referred to by the points of the compass - North, East, South and West. The two partnerships are North/South and East/West.

In Rubber Bridge a rubber is played as the best of three games. A game is won by the first partnership to score 100 or more points in successful contracts.

In Chicago Bridge you play four hands of Bridge. The winner is the partnership that scores the most points in those hands.

Team up with a computerized partner and pit your Bridge skills against two clever AI opponents in this free version of the classic card game.

TedPoon,
Since the market does not have many bridge app
Pros: simple and easy to play
Cons: minor user experience issues
This is a game app replicating the classic contract bridge. The market does not have many Contract Bridge apps, and most of them are not good in design, like the skill of the computer opponent or the artistic elements. So this app can still stand out, albeit not achieving the good quality in general game app design.
Generally the app is fine. Below some points are noticed:
User exp.: During the card selecting phase, when choosing a card, the app displays the whole set of suit first. This is a redundant step. Most card game app can directly select that particular card.
Transition of the pages: It seems the app uses fade in/out heavily in the inter-pages navigation. The idea may not be that good as the whole process looks slow and not clear-cut smooth. A simple direct cuts (like usual apps) may work better.
The speed and smoothness of the game: In short, it is slow, even if activating the singleton selection. And indeed the last card cannot automatically be played. Most of the card game apps can have a quicker response after playing a card.
For the AI of the computer opponents, since I am not an expert bridge player, I should not comment much.
Overall, the app is fine and I enjoy playing it.
Nook96,
Bidding and play
So for the bidding. Why on hard mode does your partner open with anything and if you don’t respond with the same suit they will not continue the bid where I was telling them my best suit and that I have 6-9 points myself. Also when the computer bids 1 club it doesn’t understand that when that is bid it means you have points in most or all suits and need your partner to pick a suit that you have the most of. This game makes me want to uninstall it when I knew I had almost 25 points and my partner just passed when they had 6-9 points and a decent suit to call their trump so I could bid game like I wanted to. Also it doesn’t understand that when you start with something over the 1 level you have an amazing suit or hand and want to go to game. It’s almost impossible to get your partner to bid over the 3 level but the opponent computers have no problem bidding their hands….
As for play why does every computer know exactly what aces and kings and that their partner is void immediately on opening and they always get all the early tricks they could…
For the partner computer if it knows every ace or king it should play at the beginning then why can it not keep up with the fact that they are void and while the card I played to the board is bigger than that one it is not bigger than the top one out and so they should trump…
stark1950,
Biding is horrible
I’m editing my original review after the app developer contacted me and had updated the app and fixed the bidding problems for the most part. The app actually plays quite well now and is fun to play and much less frustrating. I’ve won fewer rubbers since the update but playing the hard level is more akin to real life with some average bridge players.

North doesn’t bid in any known bridge method. North routinely opens with fewer than 10 points in suits with no face cards. North will jump shift to a suit that it ends up having to small cards in and fewer than 10 points total. North discards face cards that would win the next lead from dummy to allow EW to make their bid. Even at the hard level it’s like playing with someone who has no knowledge of the game of bridge. North routinely takes you to a five bid in a major when it is unnecessary to make game and you end up one under. Frustrating to say the least.
jozro,
Computerized game
I have played Bridge for about 15 years and the cards do not even come close to a natural mix of cards. I have been playing this game for several months and it has not changed the way cards are distributed. Also, my “partner” is playing something, but I have yet to figure out what it is because it sure isn’t any kind of Bridge that I know. He will bid 2 and 3 card suits sometimes with 8 -10 cards and if a player bids against him he will bid 3 or 4 in his suit with a partner who has passed through the entire bidding. He bids 4 or 5 with a 6 or 7 card suit and 8 points his partner {me} will raise one time with 9 to 10 points and he keeps bidding. He also bids against his partner after his partner has bid game. Maybe 3 NT Then he bids 4 spades. I realize most games are set for the computer to win, but tonight was the last straw for me. Oh, I almost forgot that East and West are computer hands and they routinely get 3-4 aces.
Leland Bridge Babe,
Placement of Google Ads
I love this app. Been playing it for years. You get a new hand every time. While there are flaws in the partners bidding, it’s still fun. But I wish the computer partner would be able to Double an opponent’s hand when its so obvious we’re going to win. My biggest complaint, though, is that when the Google Ads appear, they cover up the menu at the bottom. Making it impossible to view the score or replay the hand. Perhaps they can be moved to another part of the screen?? Thank you for listening!
Nona Peggy,
Love your online bridge.
I have played this bridge for ages and I do love it. However my so-called computer partner does not always seem to be on my side. Some of the bids seem to be made intentionally so that we'll lose. when I could've made a three bid my partner goes to four. Even though his point count does not warrant it.
I also know that all three computer players know all the cards in play. this gives the human player a disadvantage.
Finally, I estimate that only 25% of my hands have a count high enough to make an opening bid. In real life I do much better than that.
Even if you can't change what I consider flaws could you explain to me why you do the game the way you do it.
Mum from Texas,
Playing bridge during COVID 19
I played bridge 3 times a week at our senior citizen center. I loved the game and had nice folks with good skills to play with.

Suddenly we are confined in our homes. Being an 85 year old widow, I knew I needed to keep my mind active.

My daughter helped me find several free bridge apps on my iPhone. I played them, but quickly found I liked yours best.

If I didn’t like the game, I could delete it and start a new game. Playing the hand or not was up to me with no penalty.

Each hand I select, I do my best. I am a seasoned bridge player and I like the challenge of making the most of each hand regardless of the bidding.

Yours is the only bridge app I have and I play it most every day.
I want you to know that I have shared it with my bridge buddies and those who can download the app love and the ones who can’t are envious of the versatility of your game.

Thanks again for sharing this with us old folks. Even if we get to ever go back to playing together, I will continue playing yours at home.

Review
A few observations:
Although I’m a decent player, I shouldn’t win 97% of the time on the hard setting.
The computer as north bidding partner:
Sometimes opens one no trump with as few was 13 points;
Is passive to opening bids or responding bids;
If south opens and north overcalls, south better place the final game contract because north will pass leaving the contract seriously underbid;
Where south has two long suits north fails to fix contract with proper choice
Computer playing defense:
Tends to cash out aces and Kings, a poor defense in no-trump. I’ve had a vulnerable Qxx hand then the computer inexplicably shifts suits leaving me the control in a weak suit.
Computer as bidder:
Never seems to takes obvious king finesse;
In suit contracts;
computer plays trumps even after they’re all pulled, losing control of the contract unnecessarily;
Frequently under bids an obvious game contract

Computer on defense.
Fails to play 3td hand high, handing bidder cheap tricks
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the game to a point. I don’t know if these issues can be worked out but it would make a real challenge on my hard setting if they can
iPod31,
What a joke
As others have written, this is not programmed for the computer to win or even know how to bid. Always passed short of game and I never loose a rubber. Your partner constantly bids no trump, with uneven distribution and often less than opening count. If you know anything about bidding and playing bridge hands don’t waste your time with this app. It is truly a joke. Will be tossing it after writing this review.
Since the developers claim they read every review to improve the bridge game, my question to them would be, have any of you ever played bridge? If yes, then you don’t know how to transfer bridge knowledge to your app. If no then I can understand why it isn’t even remotely close to bidding and playing real life bridge.
Perhaps the age 4+ should have been an indicator of the skill level of this app.
drmikayla,
Good card play, some poor bidding
After reading previous reviews, it looks like there was an update that improved North’s bidding. I think it still needs work. I have been playing bridge for about a year and feel that beginners should not play with this app because it can teach wrong/bad habits. For example, North tends to jump bid or rebid indicating extra length when there is none. It would be nice if some explanations were given during play or bidding (e.g., this 1H opening bid indicates at least 5 hearts and at least 13 HCPs). It’s a basic game that provides great extra (and free!) practice but you’ll need some skill/knowledge to not adapt it’s mistakes.
