Therapeutic Techniques

We use ACT and DBT techniques to help you navigate through dark times.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) helps you stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with your inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations. It assists you to accept hardships and commit to making necessary changes.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) teaches you how to live in the moment, cope healthily with stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships with others.

linzee365,
I wish I’d found this sooner!!!
What I was searching for:
1. Food log without calorie tracking
2. A way to make notes in the food log so I know how I felt about my food choices and how they affect me
3. Something to signal when I’m practicing my ED so I can see in a timeline what may have led to the behavior
4. An easy to view timeline

It looked like it was back to carrying pen and paper to do this, and we all know how well that’d go over in the age of smartphones!

This app covers all four and more! I love the gentle reminder to make note of the behaviors I’m choosing to change in order to be healthy, and that I don’t have to remember to note how I felt at the time. A gentle reminder to be honest about the choices I made (good and bad) has made it so I don’t just remember the bad choices, and I get to be proud of myself when I’m doing well!

Then there’s the mood diary so I can keep track of how things are going even when I’m not making note of a meal or snack. Again, it has all the prompts I need to make sure I can go back and review my entries and have a real overview of how things are going.

Finally, I can view my whole time line in chronological order, and even do a search for a specific date range.

I’m so excited to have found this app!!

I love that I can enter my thoughts and feelings whenever I need and it plays calming music and provides a positive thought and inspiration. I woke up today with obsessive food thoughts and began to get frustrated and remembered that I have this outlet so I came here. I also love that I can do the food diary at any time. Obviously- with an ED we don’t necessarily make the best decisions so when the feelings catch up this is an outlet or at the end of a good day we can input our choices and give ourselves a pat on the back. I recommend you give it a try. It is free. After using it I went to look to pay for any premium features and it seems all the features are free. Thank you to the developers!
charlasek,
Gentle and non-judgemental
I’m in recovery for an ED and I’ve been looking for an app to log meals without calorie tracking. I’ve tried a few others that ended up being too clinical and took too long to log meals, or too simple and I couldn’t easily see the history. So far, I love this app because I can easily see my meal logs, track thoughts and feelings, and the chat feature is really gentle and helpful. There’s also an option to take a photo of your plate which I will probably do instead of entering each item. Thank you for this app!
DaGoat🧚‍♀️,
I Love This App But..
I really do enjoy this app. It's very helpful, insightful, and a great way to keep me motivated to have my everyday meals. However, I think this app deserves an update. I'd definitely love there to be more activities within the app. Maybe even a calendar like one reviewer mentioned. Would also love to see the continuous crashing getting fixed. The app wasn't crashing when I began using the app, but now it crashes quite frequently. Which is super unfortunate.

Other than that though, I love this app. Thank you to the developers for making such a great up for those of us with EDs and disordered eating habits! 🩷

Please allow edits to log cues
Hi! I love the look and feel of this app in general but there is one big problem which will not allow me to use the app. In the eating logs, each time you complete a log there is a list of possible negative behaviors to select and that list is not editable. This means that I cannot track the negative behaviors that I do engage in, such as negotiating meal plan or switching and repeating foods. It also means that every time I log a meal I have to look at the behaviors I have never engaged in, like purging or laxatives, and I am worried that over time this will lead to my trying those behaviors. PLEASE make this list editable!! Thank you!!!!
Miss E Frances,
This is wonderful!
I am in recovery from anorexia and exercise addiction, and I have a lot of anxiety on a daily basis—worrying and overthinking everything from food to my schedule. I have only had BrighterBite for two days now, and it’s wonderful! The little friend character that is available for virtual chats offers such heartfelt, loving advice for how to retrain the mind to be kinder and calmer. There is a notebook for recording thoughts, and the background music sounds like it came out of a Miyazaki film. I am so grateful for BrighterBite and highly recommend it to anyone else who struggles with worries! :)
ms_rh,
App is great!
This app is great and I’ve been using it the past few months to try and recover from my ED.

The only feature I wish that was added is the ability to edit the time after a food entry has been made. Sometimes I accidentally make a food entry that says that I finished right now when I actually finished it last night but when I click on the entry to go change it, there’s no option to edit the time.
Springfallwinter,
Best app!!
I might have an eating disorder but it’s not the anorexia or bulimia so i thought I wouldn’t find help. I don’t count my calories, at this time I’m not really eating much at all, I think it’s ARFID. But just logging into it, the music and the little character are so nice. I feel so anxious about food and my body’s reaction to it. It’s nice to have a space to feel safe in these feelings
#Nothingisfree,
Very helpful
This app is very helpful. I’ve dealt with weight struggles my whole life & likely have an undiagnosed eating disorder. Every doctor I see recommends food tracking however that sends me to a very dark place (I don’t eat bad, but have PTSD from years of being judged by my eating habits, weight, looks, etc.). This app helps me track and stay out of that dark place. The only thing it doesn’t have that I wish it did is a hunger scale. Otherwise, it’s great!
Tshifttwo,
Love it with some feature requests
Love love love this app. It’s perfect! Just two things would make it even better

-allow an option so photos can appear in the export. I share these with my therapist and it would be super helpful if that were on the pdf

-allow the ability to edit the time on a past entry. It’s the only thing that isn’t editable. Sometimes I miss the time field (it’s fairly hidden in the UI) and I want to go back to revise, but I have to re enter everything all over again to change the time.

Again thanks so much for this wonderful app!
