Strategy is Key, Gacha is helpful

After playing quite a few main and side chapters as a free to play player, I can tell you that this game is unforgiving in the sense that you’ll have to replay battles quite often to find the combo of knock around a that both deal damage to who they hit, but also put the knockee in a spot for Area damage to be cast on them.
Even after landing quite a few ultra rare weapons for characters, I still had a challenge in the main boss fights, prioritizing who has what ability instead of their stats. Quite a few of my 4* heroes get play and I switch between them because I unlocked upgrades for their skills (costume dupes)
However, you won’t be able to use characters you want in some of the side stories, forcing you to learn different ways of playing the game if you don’t have that characters costume and can level them faster.
I dislike the need for gacha in this game to upgrade costumes/skills. It’s needed for acquiring weapons faster as well, though upgrading weapons/armor, restarting, using abilities, etc, just cost gold or ability pills. Which are both easy to come by unless you lose your +9 wep over 150 times ._. So if you get the same outfits for a character over and over, you’re probably going to utilize them a bit. But having the ability to level our skills/unlock outfits a different way would make this game go a lot further, though I understand the need and am fine with slow playing the gacha system :P

This game is a beautiful game!! The visuals are great and the strategic aspect of the game is awesome. I’m used to turned base games where you can pretty much auto any content as long as you build your units. You can do that for a good amount of the content, but the later game content acquires your attention. The abilities and your placement of your team is what matters for the most part. You’ll come across some bosses where you feel like you just can’t win, but you keep trying and find the perfect setup for it. When you finally beat it, the feeling is just awesome. It’s a challenge and that is what I’m looking for.

Although the game is just brilliant, the dev’s are top notch. They do their best to always get on top of bugs and what not. They just care and listen to the community. That’s not something you come across too often with F2P games, especially gamba games. I hope the best for this game. Thank you Browndust2 team!!! Y’all are the best!

Innovative and beautiful

I’ve been playing gatcha style games for about a decade now-FFBE, E7, ATK Arena, etc. While I’ve enjoyed them all, Brown Dust 2 brings something truly new to the table…actual gameplay. While most of these games are just about following a trail of menus to collect daily whatever, and using them to slowly power up your crew, the battles rarely require anything except turning the “auto” feature on. Not the case here. There’s actual exploration and battles that require thought. It’s pretty paradigm shifting honestly. On top of that the graphic style and design are just jaw dropping. Yes, there’s an huge dose of fan service, but honestly isn’t that why a lot of us are playing gatchas anyway? I will say that the learning curve here is much higher than usual since there is an actual game you have to play and not just collect currencies. Will be playing this a long time no doubt!

More of the First

If you enjoyed the first Brave Nine (Brown Dust) I am sure you will enjoy this. I like the storyline so far, though I am in the very beginning. The game supplies you with plenty of good PVE characters so don’t get hung up on that. The gacha system is more about getting weapons and upgrading characters. The gameplay is about adjusting combat lineups and understanding the mechanics involved, as with nearly all these types of games. The graphics are a slight improvement over the original. The characters all seem to return (maybe there are exceptions but I don’t know yet). So far, I am really enjoying “rediscovering” the first game in this sequel. However, from what I see I doubt you have to play the first to enjoy this. It just helps with the learning curve. I am surprised I heard nothing about this prior to its release.

Gorgeous - Apple needs to recommend this

Brown Dust 2, Octopath and Genshin are the gold standard of mobile games. A beautiful game, hand drawn sprites and backgrounds and the interface and font choice is impeccable from a minimalist design aesthetic. The gameplay is fantastic innovative battle system that requires formation and timing and special animations are neat the game has abit of everything. Its nearly console quality, only thing i dislike is the name…it’s kinda lame. This game needs to be endorsed and advertised more, it really deserves the attention. Its far better than any other game on the market thus far aside from the couple mentioned above and Apple surprisingly has not caught on to it.

Feels more like a JRPG than an actual gacha

It could have fooled me if it labeled itself as a JRPG. Lots of story and content. Beautiful art work on both the world and character design. A good 65-70% of the main story is actually voice acted.

Coming from Arknights and Honkai Star Rail, the gacha rates for the game don’t seem good on paper (since you need 200 pulls for pity). But the game has many systems that provide plenty of pulls. Easily cleared 300 pulls being f2p.

It doesn’t feel like the game forces you to rely on their gacha system to progress your character roster as they also offer a couple free high rarity characters throughout the play through of the story. In addition, the game offers you “chances” to guarantee recruit higher rarity characters; granted, you are willing to check the in-game bar every few hours to see which characters have come to visit.

Overall, characters feels accessible enough to where it’s easy to just simply enjoy the game. But maybe I’m just lucky :)

This game looks great.

BD2 looks amazing. The look of this game is what drew me to it. Gameplay is challenging, but not impossible. It’s tactics based but I appreciate how they made the fights relatively short. It’s a gacha game so if you get shafted on the summons, you are going to hate/resent this game, if you get god tier summons, then you are going to love this game.
Developers seem to listen to the players as they are going to address some of the more concerning of the players’ concerns in the 7/23 update. Looks like this game is on the right track, hopefully it continues this as it moves forward.

Very f2p friendly gacha, great vibe

The game is very well put together, and the idea of each chapter being like a new cartridge or expansion pack is beautiful.
The gameplay is fairly straightforward, and lacks a bit strategically being the usual RPG numbers race, but is easy to get into and work with.
Characters are easy to come by, and the main attraction of the gacha is high rarity characters and character-exclusive weapons. Neither is required for most normal gameplay, but I’d imagine they improve your event and challenge quest success.

Just plain fun

I’m admittedly a sucker for classic-style RPGs and this hooked me from the start. The tactical aspect and old school visuals and music are exactly what I want from a game. I wish it wasn’t a gacha game but this is the age we live in and I fully understand that. I’m still learning but I can’t wait to see what’s next and as a veteran gacha player at this point, it would take something enormous for me to want to stop now. It feels like there’s plenty to learn and manage, and I enjoy it all right now!

A good RPG shackled by a horrible gacha

The combat, story, and exploration all stand out and make for an engaging game. Unfortunately the gacha is really bad.
The weapon system in particular is enough to ruin the game. Having to use the gacha to get weapons is bad enough, but those weapons the also get both random stats and random boosts to those stats. Not only that but you can fail at upgrading those weapons.
Finally, and I’m not sure if this is a bug, but not all characters have an animated cutscene to go with their ultimate. So far most of my 5 star gacha characters don’t have a cutscene and the same goes for most of the 4 stars as well. In fact I think only one of my gacha characters has a cutscene.
