DCopen,
The fastest and best scanning app
I’ve been looking for a reliable scanning app with a web portal to manage my magic the gathering collection for a while. All in all most either look terrible or perform terribly over prolonged use.

CardCastle is not like the others. The app not only looks great, it performs even better. Fast and smooth and accurate unlike every app I’ve used recently. I have a blank sheet of paper that I have on my desk that I use as my backdrop and CardCastle nails it every time. The best of the rest I’ve tried struggle under the same conditions.

The online user interface is even better. The portal allows you to manage your collection and capture pricing, build decks, easy import and export... it’s just hands down the smoothest collection tool I have ever used... in fact it’s one of the smoothest cloud-based software programs I have ever used period! If you want to support the developer, which I highly encourage anyone do if you like the software, the pricing simple and straightforward, no complex set related garage to confuse you. You can do monthly or a whole year at a time. Check out the tool and tryout the online portal, you won’t regret it!
magrath,
It was time to get organized
Doing a complete inventory of my cards has been a lingering pandemic project. With the money I’ve put into this game over the years, I realized it must amount to a pretty penny at this point. Then, after a buddy’s apartment was hit with a series of leaks and my first question was, “are your cards and you OK?” I figured it was time to actually knuckle down and do this.

Then, faced with the prospect of spending even more of my time in front of a computer using Excel, I thought there had to be an easier way to scan things in. Enter CardCastle.

Get the lighting in the living room right, throw on a football game and quickly log your cardboard crack between downs. Easy as you like.

I’m still in the card entry phase, but cannot wait to see some of the other fancy jazz they’ve built into the system for collection management.

What has become abundantly clear (h/t to the API with TCGPlayer’s analytics for card values) is that I am under-insured for this, and need to call my agent posthaste. Folks, we have a lot of memories, to say nothing of money, tied up in our cards. If the worst were to ever happen, the best thing you can do now to quickly rebuild is itemize your collection.
Jedi Scott,
Scanner part of the app is fantastic…. Deck management….
I am especially fond of the ability to scan multiple cards at a time. I wish the set edition was a little more reliable but it is easy enough to edit within the app. Would be nice to set a default so that it forced to the set you were scanning from.

Tagging is also wonderful. I can set tags from a scan for a deck then use the tags in the website to setup my deck build. Once this is done however the deck management piece becomes very clunky. Once cards are linked into a deck they cannot be moved around between boards inside the deck which is a critical need when working with cards you may want to bring in or cards to remove as well as the Commander board is needed for the deck to be denoted legal. Removing cards from the deck and re-adding them in the correct board is tedious. At this point transparently I’d use CardCastle to scan my cards in and export them to other better deck management tools.
gingle,
This might be the best free scanner out there
I downloaded and tried virtually every other mtg card scanner and all of them either didn’t work well or limited you to a certain number of scans before paying. This app lets you scan unlimited but only browse the first 1000 cards before paying. And the fee is only $4 a month which isn’t bad compared to competitors. The ability to export my collection is HUGE as well, as I would not have taken the time to scan my cards without knowing I had that flexibility to back them up and use the card collection data elsewhere as well. There are only a few cards out of the hundreds I’ve scanned so far that it doesn’t read properly, despite trying it in different lighting and angles. Otherwise, no complaints!
SørinRebel,
It’s quite interesting, very easy, and extremely fun
Although sometimes hard to scan the cards it is definitely worth the trouble. It gets your card right pretty much every time and if it messes up which set your card is from you can just click on it to change it. The best part about it is that it makes looking up your cards for their average prices easy and not the mind numbing hastle it normally becomes plus even better is that this app will update the prices as opposed to you having to research every card up for the price changes it just does it for you. Better yet it keeps a collection of your cards that you can look through when you don’t have your physical cards near you or to show off to friends.

I love it
I have never ever reviewed an app before in my life. However, I feel this one is worth it. They have all the essentials of organizing a magic collection. The free option is for very small collections in my opinion as it only goes up to 1,000 cards. That might seem like a lot to some but now a days if you get a daft box you automatically get 360 cards so idk. You can also build three decks. The next jump up is $100 per year and that to me feels very expensive. However if you divide it up by week it’s $1.92 so 🤷🏻‍♀️ seems fair to have unlimited storage and decks.

Super useful & surprisingly functional
Its been my first day using this app to scan in my collection & its really good! I think my biggest issue is that it doesn’t seem to like to scan borderless prints! Additionally, the only work around (this being typing them in manually) isn’t available on the app so I have to open a web browser or go on my computer to remedy the previous issue.

Also, as a free member you only get 1000 cards to add to your collection. This could be higher but assuming you are only scanning in Rares/Mythics you should have enough room.

Overall, great app! Would give 5* if I could manually add on app or if the scan worked on borderless cards.

Best Scanner I’ve seen but User Interface Design needs work
Pros:
This app is the FIRST one I’ve seen that actually has a really good card scanner, primarily how accurate it is and that it can do cards in BULK! Saves so much time updating large card collections, especially for Commander/EDH players.

Cons:
The app and website are still what feels like the Beta stage. Missing lots of simple features that are common place among other similar apps and websites - like being able to update a cards quantity or info straight from the app (let alone the website), or being able to view ur card’s current market price at a glance. Has lots of potential, but until the wrinkles have been ironed out, using other apps/website in the meantime is for the best. Worth keeping an eye on though.
Cactusdoodle,
Powerful app
The app is great. It was a little unclear for me at first how to actually add cards to your “collection” because the collection scanner adds the cards to a staging area before actually registering them to your collection. I think that’s a great feature because you can remove double scans and change foil/condition before making anything official. Overall not even a real problem since I’m just a bozo who wasn’t reading. Maybe a quick page in the tutorial about card scanning that shows the user that add to collection button from the staging screen would be useful.

It’s alright for building a collection, but not accurate enough for pricing
First off let me just say I’m not doing anything incorrectly. The lighting is good, the background is good, my camera is clean, etc, etc. and yet it gets the collection wrong half the time. There’s not point to using this app for pricing unless it’s 100% accurate, 100% of the time. It it shouldn’t be that difficult, there are only a few key features it needs to look for to accurately price the card. I can’t rely on it to scan the card as the right collection, simply put. The only thing this app is good for is making a database of the names of the cards you have, it’ll tell you that. But beyond that, useless.
