Catena: Bible & Commentaries Hack 5.5.1 + Redeem Codes

I have been using Catena for about 2 years now and what a difference it has made for me. My ability to read commentaries associated with Bible verses, my ability to highlight and save verses and commentaries, write my own reflections and insights regarding them and then have it handy when I need it has been instrumental in me beginning to understand and share. I do wish that the verses and commentaries that I save would be available on the app between my iPhone and iPad. As it is, I have everything on my iPad, and must have it with me during Bible studies and conversations. Moreover, Catholic Bible translation would be additionally nice to use, because the ability to switch translations of the Bible easily when a verse or word is difficult to understand has in itself been incredibly helpful. But not helpful in the Deuterocanonical scripture which is why another Catholic translation would be useful.

There are some things, I think, you have to learn through a mentor. Biblical interpretation is one of these things. If you don’t have access to a live mentor, and even if you do hearing the combined witness of the Fathers will help you out a ton. They are rightly theological heavyweights and passers-on of traditional interpretations.

It is unfortunate that there are so few post-Chalcedonian Fathers included in this collection, but seeing as this app is both made by the Oriental Orthodox and designed to be ecumenical, I’m not all that surprised. Either way, the early Fathers provide just as good a witness to the Faith as later ones.

One thing I think would help fulfill this app’s mission is the addition of of a search function, or some kind of concordance. I know Strong’s is in the public domain. That way you can look up a specific verse you might want to hear about, and read the commentaries. Some way to filter out certain commentators would be nice, too.

This app is good and has lots of good info. Videos to explain its meaning of each verse and very detailed by the church fathers. Has daily quotes, gives in depth history of each verse from the apostles and saints that took part of Jesus Christ missionary work. But wish it was in Spanish cus my mother doesn’t know English very much. I also wished it had an encyclopedia for words and word bank that talks about the Greek and gives us lessons that we can look at and study it. Would love that it would add more tools like history of the rosary and why the mysteries on it are in the Bible as a way to express the powers of reciting it and where to find it in the Bible. And more, cus that way it can help not only build the faith but also to create this rich archive to find and save more work and show to the world.

Although it might seem like an app geared to Orthodox Catholics (and probably is,) even I benefit from this app as a Reformed Protestant. The daily quotes are extremely helpful for learning how to live as Christians and fight our flesh. The commentaries by various Church fathers are great for those wanting to understand how the historical, even ancient Church interpreted scripture. And the daily readings are good for those times where you don't quite know where to read in scripture, and it helps you to get a little bit of scripture every day even when you are busy (reading in the early morning is probably best.) Overall I can't imagine what my faith would be like if I didn't have the insight this app makes so freely available.

CATENA is amazing! Why? The Bible with the explanations by the Saints- the likes of which are no less than Eusebius, Justin Martyr, Saint Augustine just to name a few. Their Holy Spirit-filled insights and explanations help me to love my faith even more and to see God’s unconditional love for His creatures. CATENA helps me to know Him, love Him and serve Him - better. It inspires me. I also particularly look forward to the daily quotes from the saints. I have told a multitude of my friends as well as my adult children and grandchildren to download ‘CATENA.’ My son George in Arizona, devout Catholic father of 7 , said he too was amazed! Thank you CATENA staff .

I’ve seen this app evolve over the years. While it is integrated for social media to connect with friends and filled with a lot of diverse teachers and content for believers there’s a couple improvements needed.

1. Seems to always be a glitch every month with this app one way or another. I have a lot of bible apps on my device and a this one always has a bug

2. Overall a great diversity of teachers with the majority of sound scriptural insights. Some a bit pop psychology and others antinomian. It would be good to see some Russian Orthodox teachers like those on the Bible Cantina App and some Hebrew Roots teachers besides Johnathan Kahn like Dr. Arthor Bailey, Monte Judah, or 119 Ministries. A diversity of teaching helps strengthen and challenge the body of Christ to grow.

I wish I knew about this app long ago… Using it has been so wonderful. Relevant commentaries to specific verses written by both the Church Fathers and more modern theologians can be found all in one place with a single click. There are also beautiful daily quotations from saints as well the daily readings. The layout is perfectly clean and easily navigable. No messiness, ads, or unnecessarily complicated features. As a Catholic and student of the Church and of history, I am so impressed. And it’s free! Thank you and God bless to the creators of Catena.

Full disclosure, I am a Protestant Christian, but this is one of the best Bible apps that I have stumbled upon. It contains the daily Greek and Coptic lectionaries, and is a vast library of patristic commentary on the biblical text. I would suggest this to anyone who would like to learn more about the saints that came before us, and to learn more about the perspective of the Orthodox faith. I will also continue to recommend this app to people in person, truly a wonderful resource. Thank you to the team behind Catena, and God bless.

Love this app! I have noticed, however, that when you make a reading plan, your progress does not seem to carry over properly to the following days. In other words, when you complete your reading for one day, you get a green check mark, but the next day it shows a pair of yellow glasses and says “not complete” on the previous day. Please fix this bug so that any readings you complete always stay green and are marked completed! I thinking this should also apply if you read ahead. Thank you!

This is an awesome app and while I’m still new and trying to navigate it, I love the idea behind it and the commentaries. I only wish it had more translations and that the Daily Reminders actually worked. I use my physical copy of the OSB for daily use and will use Catena for looking verses up or reading commentaries from the Fathers. The OSB is translated using NKJV and I ask that this translation be added to the next update. I would love to see it as it’s easier to use than KJV 2000 or the other translations. Thank you.
