Description

No unnecessary voice over guide. No background music or ambient sounds. Just you and your mind, the way mindfulness meditation was meant to be.

Center is an elegant meditation timer which tracks your sittings in a beautiful and simple way. With HealthKit integration so you can see your daily mindfulness practice stats right from the Health app.

The app uses haptic feedback in addition to classic meditation chimes: one chime to start, one chime for intervals, and three consecutive chimes for ending a meditation session.

Before you begin you can edit your sit time, set a delay to prepare, plan interval sounds to keep you focused, and get meditation insights. After each session the app tracks your meditation practice and provides custom insights to help you. This is what makes Center a valuable app: simplicity and a tailored experience to improve your practice the more you use the app.

# Distraction-free meditation

Many meditation apps like Calm and Headspace are filled with ambient music or voiceovers which distract from the purpose of the meditation. The goal of mindfulness meditation isn't to control your thoughts or breathing: it's simply for you to observe and be mindful of those things.

# Discover meditation insights and tips

It's easy to lose track of your meditation habit if you're not monitoring progress or getting feedback along the way. The more you use Center the more the app learns about your practice and can offer custom insights into how to get more from your meditation.

# Customize your practice for you

If your practice includes different stages within a single session, you can set interval chimes to ring (traditional singing bowl sound). You can sit for as short as 1 minute or as long as an hour (using repetitive timers for sitting even longer).

Use interval chimes to help re-orient you during your session and a daily meditation reminder to keep your habit going.

# Track your meditation habits

Easy-to-read visuals show your meditation practice at-a-glance and the app tracks everything from the average time of your sittings, what days and times you typically sit, how long you've been practicing, your current and longest meditation streaks, and more.

The app has been carefully designed for everyone from junior to seasoned meditation practitioners. For fans of the now defunct app Equanimity - Meditation Timer & Tracker by Robin Barooah, as featured on NPRs All Tech Considered.

Features:

• Daily meditation reminders
• Custom-to-you insights and tips
• Automatically track your meditation habit
• Customize how long you sit
• Set interval chimes to maintain mindfulness
• Monitor and track continuous sessions
• See the last several days of your practice in a simple chart
• Traditional singing bowl sounds
• No distractions such as guided voiceover or ambient sounds
• Simple and inviting visual design

Cammcnann,
Simple and Effective
I love the gong, much better than any of the annoying alarm sounds on my phone, and the ability to choose intervals is nice.
Helpful in incentivizing daily practice, I like to see my total time and daily averages. Also the app links up with Apple Health to record your mindfulness minutes for another layer of integration.
If you are looking for a simple meditation tracker and timer, this is great. So great it appears Chris Hemsworth ripped off the name and logo for his app. Weird.
Anyway, I give it five bags of popcorn and five cups of soda.
Great little app.
iohcnivek,
Doesn't work on silent mode
This app is EXACTLY what I wanted for meditating. No, subscription plans, no guided lessons, and no frills. Just a timer and a logger.

The only major gripe I have is the app doesn't work on silent mode. The starting gong sound doesn't play in silent mode, and the ending gong never goes off. The app is only usable in ringer on mode with do no disturb turned off in order to hear the notification sound. If you have your phone automatically go to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity, your phone will go to sleep during the timer. When the timer goes off, you'll get a classic iOS notification sound rather than the gong. I usually put my phone on do not disturb or silent mode when Imeditate so I don't get distracted by notifications but this app doesn't let me do that.

There is a "screen sleep" setting, but the app does not allow me to change it for some reason.
cgrer2,
This app had one job
I guess I never knew what a habit of pressing my lock screen button I have. This app has only been useful to me the one or two times I forget to press the home lock button before I start meditating. If I do press it on accident there is no warning but the meditation timer turns off it will not alert me when meditation time is over. This makes the timer completely useless when you do this, as I cannot figure out how to make it work while on the lock screen. And today it turned off on its own, without me even touching the button! There seems to be a button to fix this but I can’t click it. You have one job timer! Everything else? Just right. Thank you for the effort, it’s almost there, but it’s simply useless when this happens hence one star.
VeganGreg,
Anti-mindfulness non-timer
In theory, this app has everything that I want in a meditation timer.

In practice, it is buggy to the point that it interferes with my meditation. Most significantly, as other reviews have noted, the end bell is unreliable and often never sounds. This makes meditation impossible since I am frequently wondering whether the session should be over and end up interrupting the session frequently to check the time so that I do not end up going to work late. This basically makes the app an anti-mindfulness timer.

Also, the apple watch app (I’m using a series 8) does not really work at all. The timer freezes often and then even when you complete a session and “save” it, it saves it to nowhere—it does not get reflected in the log on the iphone app, nor does it get logged to mindfulness minutes.

I would advise the creator to either start maintaining this app or remove it from the app store. A timer is not a particularly complicated application, so having your name associated with a timer that is so buggy as to be unusable cannot be a good thing.
Guy Mandingo,
Perfect, but one quick thing..
Absolutely love the app, it’s all I needed with no added gimmicks or distractions. The bell sounds are of great quality and ring out instead of abruptly ending like other apps I’ve used. The one thing I wish I could do is input my streak from before I used this app. Hopefully that can just be added in an update later on because I will continue to use this app!
Slartybartfart,
LOVED this app... until the end tone quit working
‘Nuff said. The end timer doesn’t sound anymore until I am distracted from my zazen by my awareness that the timer should have sounded and I end my session and unlock my phone and press end, myself. Then it tells me I’m done. Most recent fix says it fixed this bug 10 months ago. Temporary fix, I guess. Two months in to using this app and now I have to delete it and find another one. Too bad because this app WAS perfect.
oscaraphone,
Fills a need and checks every major box
Exceptional app and design. Very well thought out, minimalist, and easy to use. Thanks so much.

My only suggestion to the creator is a vibrating timer. An audible gong is not always appropriate for the setting.

Also, as a minor bug, the sound will not work if the ringer is turned off.
sufficiently unique,
Phone version seems fine, watch version needs work
This app is beautiful and simple, and I love that it’s designed to track mindful minutes in HealthKit and to work with the watch. However, the watch app is erratic on my v1 watch - sometimes the timer stops as soon as the watch face sleeps, other times it’s fine. Also meditations on the watch don’t end up getting tracked as mindful minutes. This is frustrating and I hope a fix gets released soon.
DharmaPup,
Simple, nice, but …
This is what a meditation timer should be … simple and elegant. The only thing that might improve it is the ability to save partial sessions when using the Apple Watch complication. Sessions cut short when using the Watch complication don’t get saved to the app (or to Health). Make that change and it would get five stars.
Zeighta,
Great, except...
I really wanna give it five stars. I love the ease and simplicity of it, but I just really hate that I can’t play music while the app is open. I understand that’s the point of the app, but I wish that there was an option to play your own music if you choose. I think it’d be beneficial to just let me play my own music as the app is open. Other than that I really love it.
