PiratePrincessa,
Fun game, okay app, zero for developer team
Ive been playing since this dropped. Almost 2mm points, 4000 games won etc. that includes me uninstalling it for at least 3 years. I can play for hours. It’s engaging as a game.

The fonts and cards have changed a few times (inexplicably). As of Sept 2023, they are legible. If the cards dip below the horizon, you will never be able to see them again. So remember strategically, dont let that happen.

The app team is non responsive. Need help, don’t ask them. Curious about scoring? ditto, forget it. Even if you play the same game over and over, every time is a different score. The scoring is correlated with time to finish, but once at a higher level, only weakly correlated. Ive tested several games by playing them different ways getting different times. Same exact game (theyre numbered) but moving things around differently. So for example, finished number 11 in 5:30, get one score, finished it a different day in 6:20, and got a higher score?! Baffling. Same cards, same deck etc so the only difference was me being slower or less optimal. The points gained for the base game (before bonus points) are different each play. Never mind the bonus points. I havent even tried to decipher those. I play for fun or distraction.
Seebyrdie,
Fun and addictive but lost the fifth star
Ever since Churchill solitaire was released, I’ve been an enthusiastic player. I remain baffled, however, by the omission from the rules of an explanation of how bonus points are earned. I typically play random deals. After I win a challenging game, I’m disappointed to see that I earned no bonus points, but after I win an easy game, I’m surprised to see that I earned 100. How are bonus points calculated?

Lately, (or perhaps after the last update), the card layout on my iPhone 7 Plus immediately switches to portrait mode after the deal. Previously, I could play in landscape mode and turn to portrait mode after my rows extended beyond the view. I miss very much the capability to switch modes back and forth, especially when I have difficulty distinguishing a spade from a club in portrait view.

Except for these annoying issues, Churchill solitaire is indeed a five star game.
4Roberto,
Anti-entertaining
There are two metrics in which a game can be objectively evaluated: implementation quality and how much fun (or entertaining) it is.
Implementation quality is awful. Try and tap the cards for them to move. You will think you are trying a move that is not allowed. Besides, It lacks indispensable features. For example, it has no pause. You are playing against the clock and your dog asks you to go for a walk. Guess what? No pause. I will leave the lack of proper undo and hint for the other metric.
How much fun is it? Not at all. Playing a game is something we do for fun. It is that break time we give ourselves. Playing this game? You’d better pay attention because you make a bad move, your undo will cost you. You are tired, want to play a game to relax a bit. You want to hit the deck but you are unsure you have done all moves you could. In a proper game, you ask for a hint. In this game you shouldn’t, it will cost you. Yes, instead of entertaining yourself, you have to worry about spending more money, probably one of the things you wanted to forget in the first place when you decided to play a game.
Finally, have Churchill’s surviving family members really authorized to put his name on a game where money gets you promoted? Really? Is this Churchill’s model of climbing the military ranks? In this game, once you give them some money, you will get promoted. That’s a shame. Apple should not have approved this low quality rip-off scam of a game.
lavrentij,
Excellent--but with a bug
Love the game. I've got a Peacemaker ranking with over 500 wins, but...
Occasionally there will be a legal play that is rejected. Normally quitting and restarting the game will fix it and let you continue, but today I ran into the ultimate glitch. I have a game which is won, except that it won't let me play the nine of clubs onto the eight of clubs. I've tried restarting the app; didn't help. I've tried quitting the app, restarting the iPad, and restarting the app; didn't help. I even crossed my fingers, deleted the app and downloaded it again. To my relief, everything was restored, but I still can't make the play to win the game. I even used a hint, and it showed me the play that keeps getting rejected. Arggghhhhh!!!!!

I just noticed something else about the stuck game (I took screen shots): all of the cards are visible -- I mentioned that it was a won game -- and the other eight of clubs is missing, along with the other nine of clubs. All other cards are there and ready to be played but even if I were able to play my nine of clubs on the eight I would still be stuck because there would be no way to get past the other seven of clubs. Double Arggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
DownValleyGirl,
Like playing cards against someone who cheats.
This game is not fun. It is designed to deliberately frustrate players so they will buy hints and undos, don’t waste your money. 95% of the games can not be won. The six cards at the top are frequently dealt in an order that makes winning impossible. Since there are only two decks of cards in the game if the six include any three cards in the same suit in descending order from the top card you can not win the game. Checking these six cards is the first thing to look at before you even begin to play. Secondly if you get past that hurdle the cards are dealt to make winning a very unlikely outcome. The purpose of the game is to make money for the developers, remember that first and foremost. It could be a great game if every game was actually winnable if played skillfully, but that is not in the best interest of the developers. I have played this game a lot and have won over 1800 games, I know what I am saying is true. About 1% of the games are winnable, but it is still an ok time waster, the eye hand thing is satisfying, but calling it challenging is actually funny, that’s like a crossword with the wrong clues being called challenging. A game is only a challenge if there is a chance of winning, if it’s not winnable it’s just a scam.
Greedy, Greedy, shame on you developers. Churchill wouldn’t like his name being attached to such a shameful ruse.
atobai,
Random Deal Subscription
I enjoyed playing the free trial games and decided to purchase the $4.99 Random Deal option. However there is a glitch where I cannot put an Ace into the 2nd place from right on the top right hand box to accept the Aces. This means I can never finish a game. Tried to correct and was advised to delete the game and reinstall. I did this but now my subscription to Random Deal is not available. It wants me to buy another subscription. This is a rip-off

Follow up to my previous comment. I had Apple cancel my subscription and when I got a refund I then re-purchased the Random Deal. It works great but oft times I still have a problem getting all the Aces in their slot. Solved this by just closing down my phone and restarting. DO NOT GET THIS GAME, because once you do you will become addicted. In this COVID-19 isolation it has increased my daily screen time by 2-1/2 hours. It is fascinating to play
mcl3086,
It’s Always About Money...
I’ve played this game EVERY DAY since it came out. I’ve enjoyed it immensely; I work my way through all the games, in all the levels, then I go backwards, then I start again. And each time I win a few more games. I’ve never had a game that could hold my interest or challenge me the way this game has. I’ve even put up with the unbeatable levels where cards are buried behind others at the top...and assumed I just need to figure out some way to work the game.

Now, finally, an update comes along. But it’s not really an update, it seems more like just a money-grab, honestly. Developers must’ve been sitting around thinking, “Ya know, we have this game, and people love it...but we aren’t making any money on it!”....or at least “not enough money on it”. I’m sorry, but too many other games have offered the whole “daily challenge” thing, which ends up being recycled games from the regular rotation, and then, after a while, they start repeating themselves, blah, blah, blah.

My biggest gripe? Before the “upgrade”, I had EARNED access to EVERY LEVEL; after the “upgrade” I’m now restricted from four levels and expected to PAY for access to levels I’ve already played dozens of times and had already earned access to. That is neither right, nor fair.

Even “Copperknob” would be disgusted by that...
jackdaddy100,
250 unique wins
250 wins and 201,051 points. At this rate I only need about 1,000 more wins to reach the 1,000,000 points needed for the top level of LEGEND. The ranking system is stupid. LEGEND also requires 250 wins, but I am almost 800,000 points away. The previous high rank was PRIME MINISTER, which requires 14 wins and 75,000 points. I enjoy the game and if you like a challenge you will too. The game is great. I downloaded the game very early on and got the 500 game pack. I don’t do the daily games. And don’t know that I will because since reaching 250 wins there is no reward for more wins and I am years away from the points goal. They added more level above PRIME MINISTER after players started reaching it. But the ranking progression went from ill conceived to toataly wacko stupid. But don’t let that keep you from getting the game if you are not afraid of thinking.
Wsj reader CT,
Great game - a few suggestions
Love this game. It’s addictive. Here are a few suggestions for the developers that would make it even better.

1. Have a button that allows you to replay any random deal. I like the campaign deal, but sometimes I want to replay a random deal right after I have tried and failed to win.

2. The campaign deals should be rated by users for their difficulty. It should also be stated whether it is possible to win.

3. There should be a one touch button in any game that would surrender and re-deal another random deal. Too many buttons and screens to launch a new game.

4. After a random deal is played and surrendered, there should be a way to know if it was possible to win it. Not before, but after.

5. There should be a way to turn off the annoying Churchill video when you are Re launching the app. If you are addicted to this game and have played it a million times, even watching a few seconds and hearing the ominous music before you press skip is annoying.

6. There should be a way to know how you rank versus all players of the game. A leader board would make it even more addictive - should be careful what i ask for.
Billclock,
OK, I want my money back
Hey, you charge a lot, quite a lot, for a very good game when and if it works. But truth be told, it is packed full of arthritic quirks that call for serious refunds for serious faults in the product you are selling. Come on. Get real. Step up to the plate and acknowledge that you’ve sold a defective product. We paid real money and you have given us something that wouldn’t survive any sort of warranty.
Examples: sometimes the app refuses to allow you to make a move. It freezes. You can try moving another card a little which sometimes frees up the card you want to move. Sometimes it doesn’t.
Sometimes a card you try to move freezes mid board, or jumps up into the one of the top four spaces, but not in its proper order.
It does other quirky things too, all very annoying when your in the middle of a game— especially one where you think you may be close to winning.
