The Colgate Magik app will unlock your Colgate Magik toothbrush kit. The app uses Augmented Reality to give your children a fun brand new brushing experience, turning the Colgate Magik manual 5+ toothbrush into a connected smart toothbrush.
Take the guesswork out of brush time as the Colgate Magik toothbrushing app can detect where they brush. Using advanced visual tracking, it is the first manual toothbrush that can visibly track your kids brushing technique. So cool

Our nearly 5 yr old son brushes his teeth 2 & 3 times in a row aiming to get 3 stars and kill the nasty germs. His ability to follow/mimic the direction and location of the toothbrush is awesome. The head dresses and photo option are super cute and gets him excited to brush. The bottom of the toothbrush can not be covered by a hand and the phone must be far enough away to ensure the bottom does not go out of the picture frame. It’s a learning curve. Simple hand adjustments are made so the toothbrush is held correctly and ensures proper brushing and all the sides are cleaned well. The teeth change from yellow to white to show which areas need more attention. The app setup was a little frustrating requiring a link within an email to be selected on the actual device used, instead of a simple login. I have already recommended this product and app to others. It needs a time to floss reminder too.

Game changer, with one huge flaw

Teeth brushing used to be a major struggle twice a day and caused major bedtime issues. This device and app has completely flipped my son’s attitude towards dental care. He LOVES this system. He looks forward to brushing, challenges himself to do better & get as many gems as possible. He is even doing multiplication in order to see his results in the Parent Log in. The turn around is remarkable.
However, he is 7 and doesn’t have his own phone, therefore he uses ours. Even though you provide an email address to log in, there doesn’t appear to be centralized cloud storage that saves your progress so it syncs across all platforms. My husband and I both have the apps, are signed in under one email address, yet he is at different stages in each respective app.
Worse, my phone crashed and I had to reset to factory settings. All the data in the app is gone. All of his hard work over the past 6 weeks is gone. All the masks he bought, all the gems he’s earned, all the progress he has made. He is devastated and in fact, is too disheartened to start back up again. So back to nightly fights about brushing. It was good while it lasted.
If I could make one suggestion, please, please, please, offer the option to create an account that syncs across all devices.

Amazing concept but improvements needed!

I love this idea a lot but there are a couple of issues. If these two issues could be addressed I’d rate this a million stars!!
1.) the small camera view causes the app to be unable to “see” the tooth brush for front brushing. I also recommend some no slip runner along the bottom of the phone stand to prevent the camera moving when they have to click play again.
2.) having an option to do a timed mode (2 minutes) and an untimed mode (until brushing is completed correctly) would be better. This app is obviously targeted towards young children and they will not be as quick about brushing as an adult. My child isn’t able to complete brushing before the timer runs out so we have to do it twice. Being able to take the timer off would be preferable. As many parents may know children think having to brush their teeth twice in a row is the end of the world.

Great way to encourage proper brushing.

I love this app and it has alleviated nightly teeth brushing battles. Super fun app and teaches kids to focus on all areas of their mouth. No batteries required. Very colorful and kid friendly. I do wish there was a time for rinsing your mouth at the end of brushing and a pause for spitting during the brushing sequence. My son doesn’t want to spit because he’s afraid he won’t get 3 stars. He also would prefer a hat instead of gems or maybe something to buy for his avatar. The gems are kinda boring. We buy hats from locked levels but we can’t wear them unless we are in that level so its not fun as it could be. Maybe add an avatar feature where kids can earn items for a room/house ...something additional to the fun hats/masks they wear during brushing. I would recommend this to anyone with a little one who needs some encouragement with brushing.

Reset back to zero for no reason

My 7 year old son is a huge gamer and this app was a blessing to make toothbrushing fun. However, we made a goal for him to get a 30 day streak to earn a real life reward and on day 20/21 it reset itself back to zero! It even shows that he has brushed twice today and it still says a zero day streak. Also when I log into the parents app, he has brushed morning and night for all the days back that it shows and I know it showed his 19 day streak a couple days ago. If it only counts up to a 19 day streak that is so disappointing, both for kids to be proud of what they’ve achieved and in the case for parents trying to establish their children’s toothbrushing habit, with habits taking 30 days to form.

Now I have to keep track separately of what day he is on, which is more of a pain than it might seem. Disappointed in that.

Updated hit and miss

Just did the most recent update and found it a little challenging. At first I didn’t understand why my son was not getting any stars but then I noticed the monster is on different sides of the teeth so you have to brush on the sides as well for it to work which I liked. Brushing the front teeth did not register for us, I even tried after my son. He liked that he got to pick a prize after brushing. All the masks to buy are split into their worlds now instead of one large group which I thought was a little unappealing to my son. Can’t figure out how to change his main picture and miss the cute backgrounds they could buy. I’m sure with every update it’s just something we will learn to like but hopefully the tracking is updated soon.

Taught my son to brush well, but the app is buggy

This app has taught my son how to brush his teeth effectively, and it makes him excited to brush too. I would have given it 5 stars, but the app is glitchy. Several times, he’s been almost done with a works and suddenly lost most of his progress. About 8 months ago, he was almost done with Polar World, but one day when the app opened, it took away his stars and said he was back at the beginning of Polar World. He was so frustrated that he stopped using it. He wasn’t brushing well, so after a few months we encouraged him to restart. It’s happened a few more times but never with as big of a consequence until today. This morning he was almost at the end of one world, with 42/45 stars. This evening when he opened it, it said he only had 18 stars in that world! He would like it a lot more if it saved his progress after every brushing session, and didn’t randomly erase his achievements…

Mostly good

This is fantastic for all three of my kids: 5,6, and 11. It has really helped with ensuring they brush all of the surfaces of all of their teeth. The gamification is on point- the game while brushing and the reward system. However, I am really annoyed with the login setup. If it weren’t for how much the kids enjoy it I would rate the app a 0. It attempts to save ‘from remembering a password’ by having you click a link on your email to login...I setup the account with my personal email, but the link has to be clicked on my kids iPad since that is where the app is used. This is so counterintuitive. I don’t want my email being logged in on the iPad, and so it is just a hassle. And it has to be done often...at least every time the iPad updates. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Frustrating

The app requires that you hold the brush a specific way, or the bottom part goes off screen and doesnt count the brushing of those spots. But that way is not how any sane person would hold a brush to brush those specific spots (and yes, we have tried finagling the angle of the phone, the distance of the phone, etc). He also says that half the time, the “bad guy” doesnt even show up so he can brush him away. (Honestly, I dont really know what this means; i didnt think the character was “bad” but was fighting the plaque.... what do I know?). My 5 year old was super excited about getting this brush and playing the game, but instead he is just super frustrated, and doesnt want to use it, and I am out the cost of the brush and a box of replacements brushes. Too $$$ for a brush for young kids who need things to work to not lose interest. Wish we could return it for a refund. Do not recommend for anyone with a youngin.

Used to be great

We have been loving this app for months and it really helped teach our child to brush. We got to the end of the levels and each night there was a new hat to win or purchase with jewels and it was exciting. Now with the update the zone switching is too fast. The toothbrush cant be seen and we get consistent zero star results. The app also no longer works on my iphone and we had to switch to another device. Tracking progress for parents is gone and most devastating of all for our little is all his pictures that he has been carefully choosing a background and hat and posing for each night are gone. We have a really, really sad kid that is devastated his pictures are gone. Heartbreaking

Edit to add that I have seen the response in other reviews that the pictures are saved to your phone. They are not on my phone anywhere but I would really appreciate help recovering them because this has really caused a lot of heartache
