Tactics Sorted Beats any other tactics trainer
This app is exactly what I needed: something to wean me off of mindless tactical trainers like chess tempo which, although challenging, don’t target specific motifs. The human mind needs patterns to remember things, and this app is great at doing that. Also, the hint after two mistakes which highlights various relevant pieces has an added bonus of forcing you to figure out the important arrangement of pieces, similar to some books which repeat a tactic with the same pieces but adding others to complicate things. Hoping to use the woodpecker method with this set of puzzles. Cheers!
Cid Hamete Benengeli,
No automatic refutation of playbacks?
They recently disabled the automatic playback of refutations to bad moves. I don’t like this. Being able to see these is useful, otherwise it’s hard to see just why a move is wrong. There’s no obvious way to enable auto-playback again. There *is* a way, which is to enable auto-hints, but this isn’t obvious at all and—for me, worse yet—makes the problems too easy. It forces you to get hints when you’re struggling with a problem, even to the point of having moves made for you by the app. I want to see refutations because seeing them helps me learn what I’m doing wrong, but I don’t want hints because they make problems too easy. I’d rather struggle for several minutes and figure it out myself. I hope they fix this soon-ish. All it would take is adding a little toggle button to the settings menu.

Hidden gem
Makes you solve side lines and forces you to prove you understand the tactics. Very high level stuff and starts out small so you can see the patterns build. Also has a computer so you can understand how the rest of the game would play out, and prompts with hints when you get a puzzle wrong so that you can start to see the solution but still solve it yourself. Really good tactics app, probably the best I’ve ever used.
LTPug,
Amazing
Just simply awesome. I am veteran and I was on pain med that had affected my memory and other things. This app has helped me exercise my brain increasing my problem solving, memory, logic, and visualization skills, not to include also help with my artistic abilities. I just have to say thank to the developers and all involved in this. I know it’s intended purpose is to help train chess players. But it’s helped on so many levels in life. Thank you again.
Artkrp,
An amazing tactics trainer
This is an incredible app which teaches tactics based on specific motifs. If you are an aspiring player who wishes to work on specific types of tactics, as you should, look no further. For $8 you can’t beat this. How many chess books have you paid $20 or more for that can beat the ease of an interactive, tactical trainer with a strong playing engine for $8? Just buy it, it’s a great app.
Saturosian,
Excellent tactics, one small nitpick
I love the tactics, and although it took getting used to, I now enjoy the counter play and alternative variation features. Especially the alternative variation, which forces you to consider contingencies more deeply.

The only issue I have is that the rating system seems too forgiving. Sometimes I have to try two or three times and i still get a noticeable rating boost - it actually seems too difficult to lose rating points.

Absolutely Love It
Best tactics app out there! I couldn't stop playing it. I bought the book years ago and now they have made the same Classic in an amazing program. The tactics are broken down into themes and progressively get harder. Very easy to use and great examples just like the book. I even went for the $7 for the full access to the advanced problems. Recommend
Warren2u,
Finally have CT Art on iPad & iPhone
Best chess tactics app I've come across in the App Store. This has all the functionality of the desk top version while having a much improved look. For anyone not familiar with CT Art it was written about extensively in Rapid Chess Improvement by Michael De la Maza and was a major factor in the tremendous ratings increase he experienced as an adult player.
rbrins,
A lot of material
I just bought this app at the recommendation for a new player to learn and practice on.
It has a ton of material and puzzles in it, the only thing that gets me is the lack of introduction to a section. There is a pop up telling what the next section is but that seems to be it. Perhaps a more detailed theory page then go into the puzzles.
That is why it is getting a 4 out of 5 because it is lacking that one explanation piece.
kg9ml,
fine tactical trainer
not sure of all the features yet, but so far I’m enjoying able to play problems with both sides playing first, seeing arrows showing lines of force as hints, and when I get stuck being asked to solve similar problem on a 4x4 board.
