Description

"Decibel X" is the leading noise meter app on the market, which has highly reliable, pre-calibrated measurements and supports dBA, dBC. Our success lies at the intersection of expertise in sound communication, listening to our dear users, and our vision to build a great product. Our app turns your iOS device into a professional sound level meter, precisely measures the sound pressure level (SPL) all around you. While this pro tool mainly aids audio experts or workers prone to noise pollution, it can also add more fun and protect your hearing. Have you ever wondered how quiet your surroundings are or how loud is a rock concert or football match? "Decibel X" will help you answer all of those.

WHAT MAKE IT GREAT AND STAND OUT FROM OTHER APPS:

- Trusted accuracy: the app is tested and pre calibrated for all Apple devices. The precision is matching with real SPL devices
- Apple Watch support: see noise level right from your wrist
- Health App integration: export noise levels directly into Health app.
- Frequency weighting filters: ITU-R 468, A, B, C, Z
- Powerful, smart history data management:
+ Recording data can be saved into a list of history records for future access and analysis
+ Each record can be exported as hi-res PNG graph or CSV text via sharing services
+ iCloud support which synchronize all history records across your Apple devices
+ Fullscreen mode to give overview the whole history of an record
- Dosimeter with NIOSH, OSHA standards
- FFT and BAR graphs to display real time FFT. Those are very useful for frequency analysis and musical tests. Real time predominant frequency is also displayed.
- WAVE graph with 2 display modes: Rolling & Buffer
- InstaDecibel to capture your dB report overlaid on photos and easily shared via popular social networks (Facebook, Instagram, Messages, etc.).
- Support both Portrait and Landscape layouts
- Beautiful, intuitive and carefully crafted UI design
- Optimized for iOS 11

OTHER GREAT FEATURES:

- Standard time weightings (Response Time): SLOW (500 milliseconds) and FAST (200 milliseconds)
- Trimming calibration from -15 dB to 15 dB
- Standard measurement range from 30 dBA up to 130 dBA
- HISTO graph for plotted history of the recorded values
- Real time scale level chart
- Display Current, Average/Leq, and Max values with both nice and clear digital and analog layouts
- Quick reference text to help you compare with real-life examples
- "Keep Device Stay Awake" option for long duration recording
- Reset and clear current recording at any time
- Tap on Max value to reset at any time
- Pause/Resume the tool at any time

NOTES:

- Please do not expect a quiet room reading will be 0 dBA. The range 30-130 dBA is the standard usable range and an average quiet room will be about 30 dBA.
- Although all devices are pre-calibrated, custom calibration is suggested for serious purposes requiring higher precision and accuracy. You will need a real external device or calibrated sound meter as a reference, then adjust the trimming calibration until the reading matches with the reference.

CA-KS-RN,
Better than ever
I’m just a hobbyist, so I don’t need extreme accuracy. That said, previous apps I’d tried didn’t seem accurate, and compared to a handheld (actual) sound meter, usually weren’t. When I found the non-Pro app, it seemed spot on, and while the ads were ever present, they weren’t annoying (unlike another app that lets you use the trial version for 2 minutes and then stops working and puts up a “buy me” screen with an almost invisible close button). But after using the “free” version for a while, I decided this was worth it.

I’ve been enjoying the new features such as the frequency charting feature. Pretty cool seeing what frequency the drum beat is, or why band X seems so much louder despite being a lower decibel reading (more sound closer to 1500 Hz vs 300 Hz).
Debauchee,
Next to my D👀k and my Brain, my Ears are my Favourite Organ.
03NOV2018, I went to a Nine Inch Nails Concert in San Francisco, CA. The warm up act was playing so loud that it showed 122db Z Weighted!!! That is INSTANT Hearing Loss!!!👂 wearing my Ear Plugs under my shooting muffs, that only dropped the sound level 6db or to 117db
Z Weighted or Permanent Hearing 👂 after 20 seconds. I ran outside and during the break, confronted the sound crew, showing them the data and demanding the lower the volume else I’ll call OSHA and shut down the tour!!! The dropped it to 105db because of your program!!!

Later that week, I got a room upgrade due to noisy neighbours and I got a seat 💺 upgrade because the engines were too loud. I am PROUD to be a HEALTH-NAZI (for fun and profit) and you can be TOO!!!
B.J.S.,
Best SPL App I’ve Used
This is the best SPL meter app I’ve used. Well worth the purchase.
The only suggestion I have is that it doesn’t rotate 180 degrees on the iPhone XS Max like it did on my old iPhone 6. I like to have the microphone at the bottom of the phone pointed at the speakers so to have the UI flip upside down was very useful.
Also the “email support” button in settings didn’t work when I pressed it. Hence my notes here. Otherwise it’s great and I use it in the theater everyday when setting up for a screening.
therev49,
Just downloaded this app
I just downloaded this app and it closes as soon as it starts up. I have an iPhone XS Max, 256 gb storage running iOS 12.2, apple’s latest version. Fix this app or refund the purchase price ASAP. Despite what the developer says or claims, this app was not corrected or fixed as it disappears as soon as the app comes up but stays in the background. When you flick the bottom of the phone screen you can see it but as soon as you lift your finger off the screen it disappears again. What a frustrating piece of crap this app is. If my credit card gets charged for it I will take it up with my card issuer so the charge is removed from account. Should that fail I will file a complaint with the NYS attorney general office as well as the FTC. Yes I am that po’d by this app. This is the first one that I bought where this happened.
MusicalMyers,
Camera mode crashes the app... FYI
I’m a music and Theatre teacher, and just attended a conference, one session was on the need for hearing protection for music teachers. I panicked, bought some cheaper earplugs for the time being, set an audiology appointment, and purchased this app. I’ve only played with the app, for a few minutes and noticed that on the camera setting the app crashes. Seems like the developer is very responsive though, and is why I went through purchasing the app.
Fyi:
I’ve played on my piano for just a few minutes and was shocked that I can easily push my piano about 95 decibels! Yikes!
Guess, I’m glad I purchased the ear plugs...
and the app.
IN54NE86,
Decent app
The app is fairly straightforward and accurate, it’d be nice for it to save the settings that way you don’t have to open and select specific settings every time you open the app. I work in a loud environment and would like to use widgets on my iPhone so I can see how loud the workplace is at a quick glance. Also, when I rotate my phone the app doesn’t rotate anymore. Not sure what that’s about but I’d like a fix. Especially, being I paid for the app. Once those are updated I’ll change to a 5 star.
mr. nemoto,
Good but has a few bugs.
I use this app for training and assessing vocal intensity for Parkinson's patients. There are 3 problems that need to be fixed. One is the data on the summary report doesn't fit on the "page" so the numbers are hard to read. The second problem is that when data is cleared, it immediately starts recording again and the pause button has to be hit quickly. And finally, even the slightest upward swipe (always on accident) flips you into a different screen which is annoying and disruptive.
earpro 100101,
Fantastic app; Analyst friendly
This is a fantastic app! For someone who works in OSHA hearing conservation the ability to take a photo with the metadata alone is worth the price. Being able export the data to a table is great!

The only recommendation I can give would be to include, in the setting, options to customize the metadata for your csv export and camera, specifically, a time stamp (DTG) and frequency, and location that way we can isolate harmful frequencies and conduct a more thorough analysis.
Lameallday,
Peak hold feature needed
Good overall decibel meter. The “peak” shown on the main screen appears to be an average peak measurement, which works for many tests. If the app offered the ability to switch between displaying a peak hold line or average peak line it would be even more useful.

With the peak hold feature you could run several scans of the environment or test subject and display peak sound level vs the full audible frequency span. Quite useful if you want to characterize the peak response of a speaker across all audible frequencies.

As of now the only way to see the full frequency peak line is to record the phone screen, replay the average peak pink line as it sweeps frequency, and manually record sound level at each frequency. The built in recording feature doesn’t show sound level amplitude on the Y axis and you can’t export a video of the recording, thus the need for screen capturing.

Skypaw, when can the peak hold feature be added?
iwoolman too,
Almost 5 stars — every now and then a crash
This one helps me protect my nerve-damaged hearing. If it weren’t for the occasional crash, I would give it five stars. My other nit-pick applies to this and other decibel apps: they all report marginally to significantly different levels in the same environments. I’d love to know which is most accurate. Decibel X Pro, though, is easily my favorite. I like the interface, the ability to record, and the quick and easy-to-read comparisons to noise levels in various environments.
