Caerta,
Not great, but I’m okay with it...
The app is lackluster, sometimes quite choppy/laggy.

The otoscope is nice, though does leave a lot to be desired. Phones have had auto focusing for quite sometime, I don’t know why it would be so difficult to use the tech and increase the viewing distance (which would also allow for digital zooming) with this device. Even if the device was slightly larger. In fact, it would be nice if the device was more like medical otoscopes, it would help a lot with positioning. Uses WiFi instead of Bluetooth which poses a different set of issues... would be nice to be able to use wireless or corded out of same unit.
D5cad5ca,
The app works
This app works just fine for me. It seems many can’t grasp the concept of the camera having its own WiFi network that you need to connect to which also isn’t connected to the actual internet. Only occasionally loses connection with device. My main complaint is the actual camera. It’s fairly useless for me the wire is either too stiff (like to make turns in pipes like u bend even though it advertises it’s for plumbing and can be used in water...good luck seeing through anything but crystal clear water too btw) or it’s limp and can’t make any sort of turn or be navigated. Unless you need this thing for a straight shot a few feet away it’s not going to be very useful. I wish that it came with a removable wire piece or two so that you could steer the camera with the wire instead of just shoving everything where you want it to go and hoping you can get there which for me has never ever ever worked. Shouldn’t advertise as being usable for various things when it’s early impossible to use these boroscopes and I know because I’ve had the same issues with 4 different depstech models. All the same. Image quality on the 8mp one was nice though and focused well.
Happy in Winchester TX,
Wow!!!
I am mesmerized by this borescope inspection camera. This is about the coolest product I have ever bought! I cannot stop inspecting stuff. I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 12.1.2 and everything worked the first time. It took less than 5 minutes to down load the software, connect to the Borescope and start inspecting. It takes videos and still pictures very easily. And yes, Sewer drains are really disgusting. I was scared to buy it due to some of the negative reviews, especially about the software. Those who wrote the bad reviews should be ashamed. This thing is the real deal. High technology at an incredibly cheap price!! How do they do it at this price? It is a miracle! And 10 meters of cable! Years back, I used borescopes costing thousands of dollars that were inferior to this one. As a “do it yourselfer”, I wish I had this long ago for auto work and home repairs. The focal range surprised me. I tested it for all advertised specs and it meets or beats all the numbers. Works nicely under water!

Works Great
My carpenter put in a wall with 2 inch holes in three studs 16 inches apart. But he forgot, or didn’t understand, to run a string in there so I could run my Ethernet cable later. And now the wall is up. I have access on this side and the back side, but there are three studs there I have to fish wire through … in a wall with no other access. I used this app and a Depstech endoscope. I taped the wire to the endoscope. I also taped the endoscope with the wire to about 5 feet of bendable water tubing, but still rigid enough to make the run. Then I used this app to aim for the holes. Everything worked great!
chuckeymonkey,
Generic app makes great tool useless.
I found more than four other apps on the App Store that are basically clones of each other. This app, WiFi View, HD Fisheye, and a few more (many of them have the same developer). This is the only app that I found that supported the 1600x1200 resolution of my Depstech Endoscope and it is the one recommended by the manufacturer.

My biggest complaint is I can’t get images and videos OUT OF THE APP. The only way you can get them into your Photos app is while it is recording, and even then file is unreadable or extremely choppy (low frame rate). This makes the app useless to me.

My second complaint is that some of the other clone apps have the ability to make adjustments to the live image (brightness, gain, etc). It would be amazing to get that ability as well.

The Deptech website is always saying they are “Persistent in Pursuing the Perfect Creation”. I hope they can back those words up by improving the app quickly, or else I’m sending this paper weight back.

Right now I would rate this 0 stars if I could. If they make the two requested updates, I’ll easily rate it 5 stars.
TerryStone,
Doesn’t work on an iPad pro (largest size)
Works fine on my iPhone X (haven’t tried video or photo storage, I just need to see things live. But I can’t get it started on my iPad Pro because the opening splash screen does not have a start button I suspect the start button is actually just off screen on the bottom, but since I can’t tap it I can’t start the app. Hope you can fix this. I think it would be much easier to use with my old eyes if I can get the video on my iPad.
&@$#%!!!,
Idiots!!!
1. App support site is in Chinese. That’s fine if their target customer base is largely in China. I suspect, however, that much of their business is from U.S. customers.

2. This app supports a variety of cameras, including endoscopes and otoscopes. These commonly require use of two hands—one to hold the camera, and the other to deter obstructions. Anyone with even the tiniest fragment of a brain would know the app requires the option of an adjustable countdown timer to enable taking snapshots in such situations (because both hands are occupied to get a clear camera view, so there is no free hand to take the picture). Otherwise, shooting video is the only means of getting the picture, and that’s inefficient.

To repeat: total f—ing morons!
DesignerB23,
Doesn’t work (iPad OS/iOS 13 Beta)
I’m unaware of how well this app works on iOS 12 or earlier, so this review reflects only my experience using the app with my 2018 iPad Pro on the iOS 13 (public beta), also known as iPad OS firmware.

This app seems to open without any errors. It has a very quick response from my finger tapping the icon until the app is fully booted. In fact, most users will not notice any lag at all as this application does not consume large amounts of virtual memory—a strong positive for the app. Unfortunately, my positive comments end here.

After opening the app, there are icons that appear on the side of the screen, each doing different functions. The camera only seemed to make my iPad make sounds indicating I had taken a photo. I hear the camera shutter sound effect yet there is no image on the screen to confirm that a photo had been taken. There is just a blank, black screen.

The settings icon brings up the settings preferences and this works without any error. To be honest, this was the ONLY feature about this app that I was able to use. Everything else was broken.
jammydaman,
This is a great device
Initially I could not get my cellphone (iPhone XS) to see Wi-Fi signal generated by the camera. Upon setting up the device, I had an Eero gateway located 15 feet away from the device. I think the eero was overpowering the signal from the camera. After momentarily shutting off the eero, my cellphone could “see” the Depstech signal and it connected perfect. This is an incredible device at an incredible price. The probe has just the right amount of rigidity and flexibility. I contacted tech support via email and they responded promptly.
Wardnuke,
USING ON IPAD PRO
I have seen a review about using on iPad Pro. I had the same issue where the START button is not visible. For those that have this issue, then when you have the iPad in Landscape (on it’s side) then look at the bottom. There is a small bar which looks like the access bar for the Control Center. This is actually the top of the START button to start the DEPSTECH app. If you touch it, it’ll launch the app.

I’m sure this will be fixed soon. Otherwise this is a great app and device.
