RayCC from DE,
One of the better team RPG games
Read one review that said the framing is less of a grind, as drops are frequent. Absolutely true, have been playing about a month, and make progress in the game everyday. The campaigns, tower, arenas, tournaments, just to name a few of the daily challenges, combine to keep the game fresh and moving. Great Game! A few days later, and forgot to mention how many new wrinkles are out into tournaments and arenas, there is new content daily and once you learn how to farm, upgrading champions is fast and can still be enjoyable. 45 days in now, and the best thing, can advance quickly without spending lots of money. Yes, there are many offers to buy your way, but it is not like most games that you get to a point where if you don't pay, you can't continue to advance.
Ccurlew,
An Uncertain Future for FTP
I have played this game for one month; currently level 58. This game launched at a time where people were tired of games like SWGOH or Marvel Strike Force for various reasons. A surge of players came in for the first 6 weeks. Many players were eager to spend money to secure their spot at the top. These whales convinced the devs to release more packs of ability scrolls which is the current bottleneck; where FTP players can keep somewhat of a pace with PTP players. Many ability scroll packs have flooded the game and can only be purchased with real life currency and not in game “dracoins” giving FTP players no chance to compete with PTP players. World chat has gone silent where only a handful of new players look for guilds. The discord channel “looking for guild” tab seems to be more higher level characters looking for good guilds since theirs disbanded. There has also been a real slow down of youtuber’s content. I believe the devs give the players anything they want when, in certain areas like the bottleneck, they should say no. When FTP players drop out, it quickly becomes PTP or stay at the bottom with no chance to be competitive. I really like the game but I fear with the lack of new players and a large group of PTP players, FTP players are soon to be pushed out early in the development of a game that currently lacks content and name recognition. Still love the game and will continue to play unless the gap between FTP and PTP grows too wide.
Hal-G,
First impressions matter
I have a personal rule when starting a game: if the game has a tutorial that takes away 100% of player choice for basic mechanics that every other game of the genre has, I quit. It’s one thing to hold your hand in a tutorial. It’s another thing entirely for the tutorial to grab you by the throat and physically drag you through the game. That’s what this tutorial felt like.

Now, I’m usually kinda lenient about this rule, willing to wait a bit to see if the tutorial ends relatively quickly so I’m not completely frustrated by missing the entire first chapter of the game for the same tutorial done to death. Dragon Champions’ tutorial is not that merciful. I don’t know the story or even the mechanics of the game because I was constantly pressing skip or rapidly following the arrow so I could get to the point where I could ACTUALLY PLAY. But the tutorial just kept going and going and I lost patience.

Maybe the story of this game is really good. Maybe the game becomes super fun later and I’m missing out. Maybe this game is the single most complex and innovative game to ever exist. But I will never know because after what feels like forever of only following the arrow on the screen, I still haven’t gotten to the part where I’m allowed to play the game.
xxteargodxx,
A solid gacha game without the big name
Been playing this game about a week now, so far I am sticking with it which says a lot since I tend to drop off most gachas.

Graphics: 5/5 - Really like the graphics this game has they aren’t the most spectacular you will see in an iOS game but they are very appealing to me.

Gameplay: 4/5 - Gameplay is your basic gacha with Arena, Campaign, Challenges, Events, Guilds and more. I hit a bit of a wall on the Hero Campaign at stage 4-2 out of 8. So time to grind and level up and gear up, all that jazz.

Can’t say much for Arena or Guilds as I haven’t unlocked Arena yet and not joined a guild yet. For events, some are timed, and others are catered only to yourself. I’ve mostly just seen it as simple as ‘spend energy in Campaign to earn rewards’.

Challenges will earn you extra Gear Materials, Gold, and XP Tomes.

Shop Deals: 4/5 - I have so far seen two character offers in the shop. Both of which can be unlocked by just playing the game and grinding it out. But the deals were nice, only $1.99 each and you get plenty of gold, xp tomes and more.

All in all I can’t say for sure if this game is pay to win or not yet. But it doesn’t feel like it. My only gripe are some of the characters names are REAY generic. Like Buff, Freezard,Puncherface, Robin Bad etc.

Otherwise it’s a fun gacha without the big names attached to it like some others in the App Store.
Tank_Tastic,
Wish there was a 4.5 stars
Dragon Champions is a pretty decent character collector RPG and it offers plenty of ways to play. The game has a pretty good backstory and it’s characters are rather interesting, which makes up for the rather low number of characters (called champions in the game) that are in the game at present. The lower number of characters actually works for the game though, it makes battles simpler and more intuitive.

The only really irritating thing about Dragon Champions is the energy system. Like most games that are similar to this one, you need “energy” to begin battles. That’s fine, but you get so little free energy that grinding out items can take weeks or even months of real time if you don’t want to buy energy.

There is no shortage of PvP content in Dragon Champions and while matchmaking can be a little weird, that could be my terrible team building skills than the game’s matchmaking; nevertheless, PvE is a little disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty to do with five separate campaigns and plenty of one-off adventures that have pretty good rewards. But, with such good lore, you get the feeling the devs are leaving out opportunities to explore maze-like maps with npcs to interact with and secrets to find.

Overall, Dragon Champions is a very good game, but there is definitely room for improvement.
Capi117,
Credit Due, great game
The game itself is really enjoyable. The farms are grindy but drop rate is fair, and you always feel like you are making progress on character farming. The art and design are very good. If you choose to spend a little money (you should spend at least a little to support development.. just saying) the value for your money is very high.

Where I really need to give credit is to the developers and their legitimate interest and concern about feedback from the player base. I have played swgoh for over 3 years now and it’s night and day between these guys and what passes for community engagement at CG. The recent drama with the auto loot function is perfect example and will end up making the community even stronger I think.

If you miss having fun in these kinds of battle games this is the place for you.
nickehl,
Fun for a while but...
This game is enough fun that I decided to spend a little money (though you totally don’t have to). Sadly, the drop rate of top-tier heroes is non-existent. I have opened 50 premium chests over a month long play period and I have unlocked exactly two of the top 20 or so heroes. I guess that speaks to the free-to-play nature of the game. They gotta get you spending money some how.

I do recommend this game for F2P players, but honestly if I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t have spent what I did. So much of the game is accessible without spending money. And even though I only spent around $20, I regret at least half of that. It just doesn’t feel good when you open 10 premium chests in a row and get garbage, repeatedly.

Bottom line: play this as F2P, but don’t be tempted to spend on the premium currency. It just isn’t worth it.
Piles79,
Edit: I quit the game. Can’t hold my attention.
As a mostly free to play mobile gamer, this is a refreshing hero collecting, turn-based game. The animations are great, the dev team has obviously performed a lot of play testing as nothing seems to be ‘broken’, and I’ve found myself buying cheap packs to support them and the game. It’s simple to pick and can become competitive. If you’re a light spender or free to play, this is a game for you. Let’s hope it stays this way.

Edit: I had no connection with the characters, and the play was mostly rehashed from SWGOH. I did not feel like starting over in a similar game to SWGOH. The grind is not fun, whether buying or playing for free. Theory crafting becomes irrelevant when there is too much grinding for shards and mods. By the time a character is fully built, you are already behind the meta. I’d rather jump in to a game and theory craft quickly, than having to use characters chosen for me along a path. Thanks.
G City,
Don’t bother playing unless you are planning on being P2W
For starters unless you are willing to be a pay to win player progression is virtually impossible at certain stages.

Sure in time you might get somewhere but taking over a month to clear a single stage is beyond ridiculous. If you are playing every day and literally making zero progress anywhere then basically you may as well not be playing.

The arena system is complete and utter garbage. Doesn’t even matter if you have a better team with infinitely better gear scores on all of your team the defense AI will always land everything and you will never land anything. And you basically instantly lose. Add to this the fact that your arena progression is locked and you end up doing what I do which is literally starting a game and auto quitting because there is zero reason to play the match out. You will lose pretty much 100% of the time so basically do your two matches a day to get daily reward and move on. No point in ever doing 5 or more arena fights a day.

It would be nice to actually get to star up more characters but I repeatedly get 0 character pieces after 15-20 runs of the same level. Daily energy is limited as all heck so why am I not guaranteed something every time I do a set of 5 runs????

Honestly my biggest issue with this game is the fact that you never feel like you are progressing. Over 2 months in and I literally feel like I have nothing done at all.
Deathcreed,
Finally give review
When I played it the first time it didn’t hold my attention so I held on to the game but didn’t play. After some time passed I decided to play it again to add more variety to apps to play and now I stuck with it to play and find enjoyable to play. Sadly one small feature made me question to play it any further and that is “instant Loot”. Why? That’s because it was free to do to begin with but after an update now we have to “pay” to “unlock it” despite the fact it was unlocked before the update. Sure make any purchase to “unlock it” but like I said it was already “free” to do so. So in my point of view it felt like you sad screw you to my face. The game is fun but now forcing us to pay for a feature that was “free” to begin with brings down wanting to play any further hopefully it’s fixed before it’s too late for those who end up paying for it
