Never Gets Updates, Can we get an auto play next
Just wanting to know if we could get an auto play next episode function when watching TV shows through ds video? Specifically if your watching on a Samsung TV and you get to the end it won’t just auto play next which is inconvenient having to select play next every time especially when you just want background noise. When your accessing your nas through web browser and go through video station it plays next idk why this can’t.

Good, could easily be better
Once you get accustomed to some quirks this is a good and functional app. Simple is good, it is, and I hope it stays that way. Navigating your library isn’t super intuitive initially but you’ll figure it out. If you Synology guys could add a repeat/loop video option like you have in the mobile and browser-based apps that would make my day for real. Oh, and when you use the search function in ‘all videos’ you can swipe to pop down to the second video in the search results (why not the first? I don’t know) but swiping left or right just pops you back up to the search bar and renders the feature basically useless unless you get lucky and the second one in the search results happens to be the one you want to watch. It would be real nice if that got fixed. Thanks for the good work, guys.

Has worked good with Apple TV, 3rd gen
I was using this app on a Ruko, but everytime they updated it broke. So I bought 2 Apple TVs and installed the app. It has run flawlessly from the beginning. I have all my videos on a Synology NAS in the mkv package to avoid wear and tear. This app makes use of the hardware transcoder in the DS916+. The sound quality is very good as it will pass through the video to my equipment. The picture rivals the disk itself. As the hardware transcoder is used the the cpu hardly runs. I am totally satisfied with the app and the nas.

Latest App Update WORKS AGAIN on tvOS 14.2
The app’s had some hiccups in the past with new iOS updates and Synology wasn’t as speedy to fix those hiccups as I wished they were, but give them credit: they DID FIX THEM! (Thanks, Synology!!)
This is the best way to watch video content on your Apple TV from your Synology NAS, which is the best NAS system around. I’ve got several of them for home and my business and they’ve performed well and been nothing but rock solid. Highly recommend their devices and this app.

Great except for the last update
This app worked great for me until the last update. Now, when watching videos on my iPad, while on the same network as the NAS itself, it opens up DS File and plays them through that app. On top of that, 99% of the time, it opens the video 1 second before the end, plays that 1 second, then returns me to DS Video. So I have to tap on the video progress bar within that one second to scrub to a different location and can have more time to get to the beginning. Synology, please fix huge and pointless annoyance immediately.

Still not functional
This is not a bad app, when it works. That said, there is still a critical flaw when used in conjunction with some synology products. In my case, the DS218PLAY. The issue is that any video transcoded by the NAS and downloaded to the app in iOS is unplayable, displaying only solid green video. This has been verified after lengthy exchanges and testing by Synology tech support, with remote access to unit. They are aware of the issue but their recommendation was to use VLC the player instead. Not really an acceptable response from a company that posts the ability to transcode and download video to your device as a key feature. Please fix.

Used to be great
This app used to be a great way to stream videos of all sorts inside of your local network without any of the fuss from setting up other products. However, with the latest version of TVOS the play/pause features don’t work at all. Nothing happens when you press the buttons. If you press the menu button you’ll end up back at the home screen, where you can kill the app, then go back later.
This is obviously a bug, but it’s super annoying and dramatically reduces the utility of the program.

Works well, but needs an update...
Love this app which seems to work pretty well, but third party remote is not compatible with the app.
You can only use the original Apple TV (4K) touch surface remote to control the playback of video. Trying to use a third party remote such as a harmony remote paired for use with the Apple TV will not allow the play bar timeline to be scrolled through. Also, CC is always turned on by default for every episode and has to be manually disabled. These are quite annoying!

Major need for updates!
The app has several compatibility issues with with the newer releases in iOS & tvOS 16. Synology needs to do a better job of correcting the issues and updating the app to keep the functions running properly. 10 second skip forward and back hasn’t been working for quite a while as well as always playing subtitles even with all auto download or play settings turned off. Now with iOS & tvOS 16.4 the cover art isn’t showing up in the app. Really frustrating to spend the money on a synology NAS only to have poor utilization and functionality of the apps offered.

LOL… amateur hour?
I expected a lot more from an established company like Synology… It plays 16:9 videos squeezed to 4:3 (distorted) and letterboxed for reasons only known to its clueless developers, and this can’t be changed making the entire app completely useless unless you enjoy movies that look like a bootlegged VHS tape played on a 1999’s TV. The entire app looks and works like a high school project that was tossed together in a weekend hackathon and then abandoned. I would have more respect left for Synology if they didn’t try to do something they obviously don’t know how to do and just recommended a 3rd party app made by adults.
