Hola! We are an Irish couple (Jane and Brian) living in Spain and learning Spanish. We started Ella Verbs as we were looking for a way to improve our Spanish verbs and make the jump from intermediate to advanced speakers. We tried many ways to improve our Spanish grammar (books, apps, tutors – you name it, we tried it!), but never found the one that clicked. So we built it!
We aren’t your typical Spanish flashcards or verb trainer app. Our philosophy is “learn, quiz, repeat”. We teach you, then quiz you and then surface content again when you need it most. It’s been proven that quizzing helps with concentration, identifying gaps in knowledge and long term retention (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006). You’ll enjoy our personalised Smart Quizzes to help you improve your Spanish conjugation faster!
Because it's just the two of us, we personally read and respond to every feedback email and review. So if you have an idea, issue, question or whatever, please get in touch! We really want and listen to your feedback, and regularly release new features and improve existing ones (to date we've released 30+ updates per year!). Together we want to help everyone learning Spanish to master their verbs :)

In this update we've improved the filters in the verb library! Previously, you could only filter by one group of verbs, but now you can apply multiple – e.g. show me all the reflexive AR verbs with irregular past participles. Let us know what you think!
You can also now request a verb to be added within Settings, under the "Get in touch" section.
And, we've fixed a bug affecting people using the app offline – sorry about that. It should work fully offline again now :)

Wonderful app!
I didn’t realize how much I would like this app when I started the free trial. It is evident a lot of thought and effort has gone into making it an excellent learning tool. There is some teaching of verb conjugation, but what I find most useful are the quizzes. Right now I am practicing using the quiz which presents example sentences with a verb missing (but you can see the infinitive) and you need to choose whether to use the preterite or imperfect past tense, and to write it out with correct accent marks. After you choose, the correct verb is spoken and written. Another favorite right now is choosing when to use ser and estar. The default settings use 100 common verbs, but apparently you can change those settings to over 1000 verbs. I haven’t used all the verb conjugation forms yet, but a quick perusal made me think they have them all. Highly satisfied, and hoping they will offer an affordable lifetime purchase option for this app. Well worth your time to accept the free offer and try it out!

The Best Spanish-learning App
I’ve been frustrated in the past with programs like Rosetta Stone and Duolingo because you end up answering the same questions over and over—well past the point at which you’ve absorbed the information and are ready to move on.
Ella Verbs is much more customizable—you can jump around, bypassing levels if you feel you’ve learned enough and going back to review or refresh your skills as needed. This is especially helpful if, like me, you know Spanish pretty well but have learned in a scattershot way over the years, leaving gaps in your knowledge: Ella Verbs lets you target the areas where you need improvement, from relatively simple elements like direct object pronouns to the complexities of the subjunctive. But it’s great for users at any level.
Not least, the interface is elegant but simple, and they don’t waste your time with dancing cartoon creatures or cutesy phrases. (If you mess up a test, they just say “Hard luck.”) All in all, it’s a pleasure to use and well worth the price!

I have been using duo free to try to learn Spanish. We have a Spanish service at our church each Tuesday. I want to learn to talk with my new friends. Your program is fantastic. I’m only doing the free trial untill I know it well then if I can I will go on. I couldn’t understand the words changing… because of the tense… it was difficult for me so when I seen your program I thought I’d try. I love it because it explains the words in detail and explains why and how the endings changes. Thank you! It may take me a long time but I will understand it. Hopfully understand and talk it. Duo has helped me but I need to understand the words so I can speak and know what I am saying. I can read Spanish pretty good but need more understanding. It goes pretty fast I like going at my own pace … which isn’t very fast, I’m the tortoise in this learning experience😊I plan to learn to understand and speak it fluently🌺thank yal for letting all have the opportunity to learn while understanding clearly💘

Exactly what you need, no more.
TL;DR: It’s better to know how to conjugate things to say what you want with a very limited vocabulary, than to have a vast vocabulary without being able to conjugate verbs in all their forms. This fixes that.
As someone with 5 years of formal schooling in Spanish I worked through all Spanish tenses and remember a good bit. (I’m conversationally fluent in present, and past tense)That being said I’m also in a very unique position where I know enough to get by but not enough to enjoy speaking because I always have to use work arounds a and I know some things I say are wrong. I wanted to do Duolingo, but I’d probably spend months to get to the material that’s new. My vocab is limited, but being able to create almost any sentence with limited vocab is much more functional that not knowing how to conjugate verbs to say a phrase the way you want to say it. Learning vocab will come very naturally and easily so long as you know how to properly conjugate the most common verbs. I’d much rather look up a noun that I don’t know than to find out how to conjugate a verb in a tense I don’t know.
Based off of what I have seen from this in literally 10 minutes. I suspect that if you were to learn on Quizlet the top 1000 commonly used vocab words, and pair that with this that you could become conversationally fluent so long as you had a speaking partner.

Not your average app
When I first was asked question of whether or not I knew a verb tense, I was concerned that I was back to a method similar to Duolingo. Boy, I was wrong…
I received my placement, and jumped into the lessons. This app has usage for each tense. The tense lessons not only tell you when to use them (shade is being thrown at a specific app 😂… yes this is a bit spicy) but also give you the equivalence in English! It is so hard to find this in any other major or well knew language learning app or website. I am hoping that the creators will gain the recognition they deserve because they are making the process of spooky and intimidating language learning not so daunting.
*this is also a wish from me to the creators… please create an app for French verb tenses and conjugations in the future. There are not many out there and the ones that are aren’t so great for your phone. You would be doing the lords work 🥹😅

I was hesitant to buy the app without trying it, but am so glad I did! It is easy to use and flexible, no nonsense but still feels fun. The way it divides learning verbs into categories like, stem-changing e to ie verbs or irregulars makes learning the verbs so much easier. I’ve heard this approach recommended by teachers (like the Spanish Dude) and have found it very helpful. Also the explanations of how to conjugate are concise but informative. The app feels like it was written by a good teacher / Spanish enthusiast not just a developer trying to make a buck. Also I like the fact that you don’t have to go through a huge instructional phase before quizzing, you can dive right in or choose to read the tutorials.
One piece of info I couldn’t find before buying was what verb forms it includes. As of this review it has: Present, preterite, imperfect, past perfect, future, future perfect, conditional, conditional perfect, subjunctive, subjunctive imperative, subjunctive present perfect, subjunctive past perfect, and imperative. Customization and learning metrics are fantastic
This is truly a learning app, going way beyond conventional flashcard programs. You can use the built-in quizzes, or customize by choosing which verbs, which tenses, and choosing the testing format. It shows you how well you are doing in each tense and prompts you when you need more practice in any of them. The app is regularly updated with useful features, and the developers are very responsive to feedback over email.
The app can be frustrating to use early on because it is very structured in unlocking a set sequence of tenses, making you prove basic competency in each tense before it will let you move on to the next. But it’s worth it if you stay with it. After a year, I’ve unlocked 12 tenses and practice them regularly. I am so much more confident now, it is amazing.

Best verb study app I’ve found
I’ve tried quite a few books and apps to improve my Spanish and this is by far the best and most useful study aid. The explanations are clear, the quizzes are demanding (watch the accents!), and I love the fact that some quizzes display the verb forms in context. The program is progressively structured so you have a clear sense of goals and progress (as well as reminders to return for reinforcement). And most helpful of all is the ability to customize your study from a huge (and ever growing) library of verbs. This has been especially useful for me with the irregular verbs which are tedious to study on a page but come to life with the quizzes. Best of all, the developers seem very responsive to comments and are constantly improving it. I’m studying French, too, and have yet to find anything equivalent.

Truly wonderful app
I've tried a lot of apps for verb conjugation and this one is the best by far. The options for customizing quizzes mean that I can test myself on any combination of things I want to: specific conjugations, moods, and pronouns, whatever I am wanting to work on. The explanations are really great and the app itself is very positive and encouraging.
The one suggestion I would make is that a wider variety of questions be offered for the in-chapter quizzes, because I notice the same sample sentences being used over and over. When I go to level up I find that I've practiced three or four verbs over and over, and not many of the ones that are included in the level-up quiz. Not a huge deal, though, and the app is absolutely worth the money! 🇪🇸👏🏼♥️

Conjugation, not Comprehension
I would like to say first that this app is a WONDERFUL tool for beginner and intermediate students of Spanish that are trying to work on their conjugation skills (especially with the subjunctive mood and compound tenses); however, this app focuses almost exclusively on learning common verbs and their possible conjugations. That is to say that this app isn’t built to teach how to form proper sentences (outside of a few examples provided in the explanation at the beginning of each section), nor does it focus on pronunciation or grammar. As a side note, I am an advanced speaker of Spanish with a B2/C1 certification, and the app still considers me an A1 after several days (even though I am nearing the last milestone). Overall, this is a decent app for learning conjugations and vocabulary, but I would stick with Duolingo for a better understanding of the language holistically.
