liannetries,
Stellar Tool for Chronic Illness (with so much potential!)
Pals who take meds - listen up!

I have been searching for the best way to store, organize and carry my meds and until this point, nothing has met my needs.

I’ve used everything from weekly pill box organizers, ziplock bags, satchels and dob kits. I looked into the Hero, and it was nearly perfect, but as someone who was always on the go pre-pandemic, it didn’t offer the ease or mobility to throw in my bag to pack up and go if I pleased.

I stumbled upon EllieGrid - a different kind of smart pillbox - and I am STOKED about it. Not only does it hold over a month’s worth of all of my prescriptions, through the connected app it can set audio + visual alarms/reminders, track compliance, build reports to show your success and patters for caregivers, and even remind you to take supplements that may not fit into the grid.

I’ve been using elliegrid for about three weeks now and its already been a game changer. I’m giving this a 4.5 star review because I’ve noticed a few small tech glitches, and I wish the refill reminders were programmable, but I was able to work around them. As someone who works for a non-profit based tech-startup myself, I understand the challenges of a new/small team, so I’m sure there is more to come with time!

Thank you elliegrid for creating (and sharing) this magnificent tool to keep my pills in check!

Buggy
This app is so buggy it’s ridiculous. Have had many issues. Here is just one example.

I open the box to take my pills knowing the notification time is coming up very soon. The box shows which pills to take. I take them and close the lid. After closing the lid I decide to check the battery level in the manner laid out in the instructions. I try three times before it works. I thought, oh dang, I’ll bet it was communicating with the app via Bluetooth and that’s why it didn’t work at first. Sure enough, I check the app and it didn’t record that I had taken the pills. Shortly after, the notification to take the pills goes off in the app. I open the app to record my taking my pills, but only one of the pills I’ve taken shows up in the list and it shows that there was no connection to the pill box for this pill. I push the button to show I took the pill, and my history shows it’s the only pill I took out of three that I actually did take.

If I had memory issues, I would NEVER trust this device and app. Who in the world would sell a medical device that’s so buggy? For me, I’ll still use it because it’s a convenient way to dispense meds and I have no memory issues, but I’d never ever let an elderly person with any memory issues use it. And for the price of the device, it ought to work flawlessly.
Krmpls,
Why so buggy?
The concept of this product and app is top notch, the product and user experience? Terrible.

The only way I can seem to get the box and app to cooperate in harmony is if I wait for the alarm to go off and open the box at that exact moment. If I use smart alarms and open the box within the window, it doesn’t always register that I’ve taken them. If I get a push notification and select ‘Take All’ the screen refreshes like I did nothing. No confirmation feedback. I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps to remedy these issues such as alarm synchronization, disconnecting and reconnecting to Bluetooth, even deleting and adding all of my medications. I have put way more time into this pill box than I should have because I really want it to work but I’m losing hope.

Was there any research or QA done for this product? How is this pill box and app supposed to simplify the medication adherence process if it’s just constantly gaslighting the user? Please pour all of you money into fixing this app, I’m begging you.
TechGuyWY,
A great solution for medication management!
Once I got past more than a couple of pills per day, I decided I needed a better way to manage them. Most pill organizers are geared around a weekly schedule, but I wanted something I didn't have to refill every week. I also wanted something connected with my smartphone for tracking.

The app and pillbox are super simple to use. It will organize up to 7 medications, and can hold anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month of more per pill depending on the size and shape. The compartments are different sizes, so even larger pills can be accommodated.

I like the schedule and alarm function to remind me when it's time to take my pills. I can be a bit forgetful if my morning or evening routine is interrupted for some reason. While I could set an alarm on my phone, this provides positive confirmation that I've opened the pill case and taken my medication. There is a unique system of lights on the lid to indicate what you need to take and how many (up to 3 pills per medication). If you're a caretaker, you can also receive reports of compliance for the person taking the medication (missed doses, etc).

It's really a neat solution at a reasonable price. Comparable options are either super expensive or require a monthly subscription.

Definitely worth getting if you need to manage multiple medications on a schedule!
DESSERTFIRST,
Like the concept
Pros: Setting up was easy, More compartments would be a plus.
Cons: Lack of any documentation a problem, FAQs not comprehensive.
Set up for out of box reminders not clear
warranty of only 30 says is problematic. If the product was reliable then there is limited cost to extending the warranty,
No info on battery replacement, they do wear out. Could be stuck with an out of warranty brick in a few months.
Battery life needs to be longer, and no note re keeping it plugged in re impact on battery health. Battery went from 100 to 10% overnight. Better faqs would solve some of the above.

re ease of use, key is reliability, does it do what it is supposed to do, early reviews and my experience indicate not. Frequent updates may be solving the big problems. Yet so far it is not proving to be either predictable or reliable, unless this is fixed, returning. (warranty length is troublesome, along with no info on how to replace the battery, cant tell me this is a 1 or 2 year battery, if you can then tell me.
SandNBtwnMyToes,
Love my EllieGrid but
So I got my Ellie grid a while back and I love my box. I know the price is hefty but it is FSA eligible and if it helps you stay in compliance with taking medication then the price is worth it and no more sorting medication just dump the pill box in one of the sorted compartments and that’s it.

As for the app it’s a great app the only thing I wish is that EllieGrid box would record the actual time the box was opened. It’s an easy way to look for patterns in your medication habits with time stamps.

Note: there is an optional in app fee 2 different tiers if you want. But it’s not required to use the box. But to see your progress reports for more then just the current day then it’s $0.99/week for the plus tier. For the premium tier you get what’s included in the plus tier and on top of that caregiver notifications for $1.99/week. Again all this is optional. I choose not to opt in since I only really care about the current day if I forget if I took my medication in the morning I have the memory of dory lol.

Feedback: Anyways great product would love to see the time stamp for medication time recorded in future updates if possible.
TexasGirl4Life818,
Love my EllieGrid!!
I have been using my EllieGrid for about one week now and I could not be happier.

It’s such a good idea! I purchased this cause I was tired of the old way of individual sorting out each of my pills into a weekly organizer. I purchased this product because I could track and share my medication compliance and it syncs with my iPhone. The unit is easy to use and compact. The Bluetooth is easy to set up and the transfer from the pillbox to the iPhone is seamless. I love the app, and the notifications help me keep on track. I would definitely recommend to family and friends!
CHagler07,
Awesome for my Grandpa
I bought this for my grandfather and it has been amazing! The fact that it reminds him to take his meds and sends me text messages whenever he doesn’t take them, is exactly what I was looking for. I also like how he can get notifications for things “outside the pill box”. I use this feature to remind him to drink water, but I am sure it would be great for people that have medications that are not in pill form (liquids, sprays, inhalers, etc). He is not a huge fan of the fun riddles that come with each notification, but I love them lol (and you can disable this)

EllieGrid - Solving Burdens with Love
EllieGrid is an innovative solution to the easily forgettable burden that is remembering to take your dang pills on time - it's turned what used to be choir, into...fun! I'm happy to pay a little more for an EllieGrid subscription since I feel good supporting a startup business (they started pitching the idea in college). Inspired by their own first-hand experiences, they have been working tirelessly ever since to create a high quality product that will make people's lives just a little easier. If you haven't read their story, I highly encourage you do so.
sunshipballoons,
Still doesn’t really work
Some of the manual tracking options have improved so they are easier to use. It’s still hard to get to the manual tracking by going into the app, but the number of steps have decreased and it’s clearer when you’ve marked something as taken. It’s very slow to process it when you make it, though.

Using the notifications to track a pill is a crap shoot. About half the time, it takes you to a screen to track it. The other half the time? To the main page without the tracking window. Here, too, it takes an absurdly long time for it to process when you track it.

This stuff is all critical because the automatic tracking doesn’t work. My app is synced. I open the box with my phone right next to it. I’ve tried app open. I’ve tried app in background phone unlocked. I’ve tried app in background phone locked. I’ve tried app closed, phone locked and unlocked. Zero percent success rate.

So at this point I have a pill box I like and a terrible pill tracker that I could replace with any number of better ones.
