In many ways, the EM:RAP iOS app is like a car, one we keep making better over time. Sometimes we’re excited to tell you all about the new spoiler we’ve bolted onto the trunk, or the sweet cherry-bomber tailpipes we’ve replaced your sensible muffler with. Other times, though, we change the oil and rotate the tires to keep things humming—or in the case of those tailpipes, booming—along.
And that’s exactly what we’ve done with this release. We’ve fixed a number of internal bugs, improved our loading animations, and even increased performance by tidying up our database. We’ve also expanded our error messaging, so you’ll know what to do if something goes wrong.
So go ahead and give our latest iOS update a try. But please, go easy with those tailpipes. They might wake the neighbors.

It’s summertime up here in the northern hemisphere. Time for barbecues with friends, lounging on beaches, even drinking from backyard garden hoses after a rousing game of touch football. But as temping as kicking back with a cold one may be, we here at EM:RAP haven’t wavered from bringing you the greatest medical education the world over. There’s so much of it, in fact, drinking from our metaphorical garden hose might seem a little more like being blasted in your face by the fire department. That’s why we’ve rolled out a new series of in-app banners to let you know about new and exciting things you won’t want to miss. We’ve also cleaned up a few bugs and improved the sign-in, all so you can get to your favorite content even faster.
So go ahead and give this latest update a try, just as soon as you’re done skinny dipping at the lake or roasting marshmallows over a campfire. We think you’ll like what you’re going to see.

Spring has sprung, so we’ve been tidying up our app. We’ve shaken a few bugs from the rug to keep it plush and fresh, and what’s more, we’ve added banners to let you know the moment we slip another new and delicious bundt cake into the oven. April showers bring EM:RAP flowers with this new release of our iOS app!

Has this ever happened to you? You’re at the grocery store, and you’ve just spent ten minutes diligently inspecting cantaloupes—feeling for soft spots, checking for rattles (because maybe cantaloupes rattle when they’re bad?!?)—before carting them to the cash register, only to realize your two-for-one cantaloupe coupon expired three months ago. All that time trying to find the perfect melon could have been spent thumbing through the magazine rack, if only you’d known your coupon had lapsed.
We here at EM:RAP can relate. That’s why we’ve introduced a new banner to let you know when your subscription has expired. Tapping it will direct you to emrap.org so you may renew your subscription and resume listening to all our educational goodness with minimal interruption.
In addition, we’ve tweaked our playback system, so now the app will pause when you interact with Siri or Apple Maps. We’ve also updated the app to autoplay content when you’re redirected from a link, and we’ve bundled in a few graphic and usability fixes too.
So, go ahead and give this latest release a try—and don’t forget to check the expiry date on your coupons. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on a good deal for cantaloupes!

First impressions have always mattered, whether it’s with a patient in your department, or with your high school sweetheart standing aloof across the gym floor during the spring fling dance of your senior year. We here at EM:RAP know what it’s like to have to dry your sweaty palms before stepping into an examination room, or to fix your hair before asking someone to slow-dance to the first half of Stairway to Heaven. You care about leaving a good first impression, so we’ve decided our app should leave a good one too.
That’s why we’ve updated our app’s start-up experience. We’ve added an informative first-run loading screen so you’ll know exactly when the app is ready for you, without having to endure our tired old jokes. We’ve also decreased how long it takes for the app to start, and provided a few nice UI updates, like showing progress bars for running downloads.
First impressions matter, so we hope this update will leave you swooning—just like your beau did in your high school gymnasium, right before the guitar solo kicked in.

Winter is here for many of us in North America, and that usually means one thing: it’s time to give your car a little wintertime TLC. Things like putting on a set of snow tires to keep from skidding into the cart corral at the grocery store, or rust proofing your car so it won't crumble to dust the next time you hit a pothole.
We’ve had plenty of time to think about the EM:RAP iOS app while we sat waiting for our cars to warm up, and we decided it was time for a little winter maintenance of its own. We’ve fixed a number of internal bugs, and have revamped the Daily Dose notifications. Now they will take you directly to the video, playing full-screen for you automatically. Additionally, the app will now return you to the audio program you were browsing when you last used the app, plus we’ve fixed a number of visual issues on the profile tab.
So go ahead and give our latest version a whirl. At the very least, it’ll help keep you up to date with the latest in emergency, primary care, and urgent care medicine while you scrape the frost off the inside of your windshield with a credit card.

Guess who’s turning 8.67 years old? If you guessed our iOS app, you’d be right!
It’s been nearly nine years since our little app took its first baby steps into the app store. We’ve learned so much since then, and we hope you have too! During this time we’ve grown features, stability, speed, and added so much new and exciting educational content. The current version of the app is completely unrecognizable from its predecessor and we’re so proud of it!
We wouldn’t be here today without you, so we’re extending a sincere thank-you by continually improving our app code and releasing a number of improvements in this version. We’ve also added a way to leave reviews and ratings in-app. So, on our not-quite birthday, we hope you’ll sing our praises by leaving a 5-Star review in the app store. Thanks so much; what you do matters!

Remember your first car? Maybe it was your dad’s old Civic, or your aunt’s tired Corolla. How did you personalize it? Did you add a set of fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror? Did you buy a window-tinting kit, or install a tailpipe the width of a tuna can so the neighbors know it’s you who’s driving by? Whatever you did, you made that car yours and yours alone.
We here at EM:RAP have brought that same spirit to our latest iOS app update. Now you can customize your app experience to suit your specialty, whether it’s urgent care or emergency medicine. Simply update your account settings to ensure the content most relevant to you is presented on top. We’ve also added support for our latest podcast, UCMaximus, which will keep you on top of your UC practice.
So go ahead and slap some hot pink racing stripes onto your iOS device, and give this latest update a try.

Remember that time you were illegally parked in a loading zone, scrolling through the list of audio content in the EM:RAP app, only to be interrupted by a parking bylaw officer writing you a ticket? When you got back to the app, you had totally forgotten where you were. Well, no more! Now the All Episodes section has a flashy new banner to help remind you. Oh, there are lots of other improvements around loading and deep linking that make this all-new version of the app feel like it’s wrapped in the comfiest of exoskeletons.

We noticed the app was misbehaving for a few of you, so we sat it down and gave it a stern talking-to. It feels awfully bad about the whole thing and promises it won’t crash on startup any more. We even made it pinky swear.
We also cleaned up the search results list, so now it will load the full result set, instead of just the first few pages.

Like a teen who’s been gifted their parents’ old car for graduating high school, we here at EM:RAP have had only one thing on our minds: speed. Specifically, the speed of our app. We decided to make it snappier to use and faster to start. What followed was more than just tinting the windows and slapping a noisy muffler on your dad’s ’93 Tercel. Instead, we took a deep-dive into the nuts and bolts of the code and eked out whatever performance we could, drastically dropping the start up time while removing the need to pull-to-refresh in order to stay up to date. The app will now do all that for you.
We also took the opportunity to fix bugs and improve the linking between emrap.org and the app. Now you can jump seamlessly between the app and website with the tap of a button. So go ahead and give this update a try, and see just how quickly you’ll get to where you’re going.

We’ve washed the dishes and dusted our desks, and we’ve even taken the rugs outside for a good beating. What’s more, we’ve shaken the bugs out of our app, smoothed out the wrinkles, and dressed it in its Sunday best in preparation for what’s to come. So stay tuned, because we’re all giddy with excitement.

We all have that one friend who likes to brag about themselves at parties a little too much, but who never gets around to putting their money where their mouth is when challenged. You know how it goes. They claim they can slam a dunk, do more than ten pushups in a row, or recite pi to a hundred places. When asked to prove it, they slink out of the room with a sore throat or some other convenient excuse.
We here at EM:RAP have looked inwardly lately, and have realized our apps are a lot like that friend of yours who once bragged about eating twenty-five pickled eggs in a single sitting. We tell you all about our latest and greatest EM:RAP content through app notifications, but when pressed, we don’t actually show it to you. Well, all that has changed. Now notifications will link you directly to the content we want you to see. Playlists, episodes, even chapters and written summaries. Watch us put our money where our mouths are with this latest update to the EM:RAP iOS app.
(You might want to keep an eye on those notifications for a special surprise—coming soon!)

It’s a little-known fact that when Bob Dylan sang “the times, they are a-changin’” he was referring to what would eventually become the Internet’s changing attitude toward vertical video. Remember when everyone would rotate their devices ninety degrees to watch a 30-second kitten clip? It seems like so long ago. Well, we here at EM:RAP are changing right along with the times and are happy to announce vertical video support in the apps. Simply enter full-screen from the player and orient your phone however you like, and we’ll take it from there.
We’ve also put together a brand new Library tab where you can find and manage all of your downloads and favorites. What’s more, it’s a place where you can create your own custom playlists—you’re no longer limited to a single list of favorites—so quickly accessing the content you need has never been easier. There’s also a new account screen that allows you to control what kind of content is displayed in-app—Nurses Edition Commentary, Farsi or Canadian Editions, and on and on.
We’ve also taken the liberty of squashing a number of visual bugs and of addressing a few issues related to downloading chapters. The times are indeed a-changing, and the EM:RAP iOS app is keeping step.

We fixed quite a few pesky bugs in this release, including one that broke autoplay for some users.
The app went through major surgery recently and you might notice that it may be feeling a little loopy.
There are always bugs after a huge upgrade like this but rest assured, we’re keeping it under close observation and we’ll make sure it’s in tip-top shape very soon.

As the sun rises on the first day of the new month, roughly forty seven thousand new pieces of EM educational goodness descend from Mount EM:RAP into your app feeds. Excitedly, you scour through this blizzard of educational nuggets, determined to locate your favorite program’s latest release. Sadly, on this day, your thumb develops a severe cramp at release 30,492 and you can scroll no more. Defeated, it is at this moment that you realize the meaning of “too much of a good thing”.
We know, we know, we have a bit of a problem! We just can’t help ourselves; we love this stuff and are always releasing fresh content. The problem is that the old app just wasn’t cutting it. With its simple list layout, you simply couldn’t quickly sift through all of the beautiful bundt cake-y EM goodness to find what you were looking for.
So, we rejiggered the teraflops and hardflopified the gigadrives and completely reimagined a totally new way for you to quickly find and enjoy our content. Looking for the latest HD videos? Boom! They now have their own beautiful section and are conveniently organized by category and into playlists. YouTube for EM, anyone? We have big ambitions, and this is a huge step in that direction!
And what about all of that amazing audio content? It used to all live in one gigantic, neverending feed. No more! Each program is now broken out into its own section. Spotify for EM, anyone? We’re aiming high for Podcasting Zen!
Scratching your head trying to remember that amazing C3 or EMA episode you were just listening to? Search no more! With our convenient “Continue Listening” sections on each program tab, you can quickly and easily pick up right where you left off.
Like after any major surgery, you might notice that the app may be feeling a little loopy. There are always bugs after a huge upgrade like this. Rest assured, we’re keeping it under close observation and we’ll make sure it’s in tip-top shape very soon.
We’re just getting started on these upgrades. Stay tuned for more ambitious regigabyting of the teraflops right around the corner!

Now you can download any HD episode you want, and then view them from the comfort of your own tent. So pack your bear spray and your phone, and keep up to date with the latest medical video content EM:RAP has to offer, no matter where you happen to be.

Have you ever been challenged to a footrace, only to lose it before you accept? Have you burnt your morning toast the night before you remember to pick up bread? Placed the proverbial cart before the idiomatic horse?
Neither have we. Even so, this is the sort of paradoxical bug our latest app update seeks to squash. A small number of you may have noticed your app was completing tasks before it started them, which isn’t the sort of thing the Universe is terribly comfortable with. It followed that the app might periodically implode when starting up, or work just fine—depending on how the physics were feeling that day.
We’ve sat down and made the necessary adjustments to keep the app running in the order we all expect. For those of you unaffected by this bug, it might feel as though we’ve fixed the problem before it began. For the rest of you, though—we hope you take comfort in having your cart properly hitched to your horse, just as the Universe insists.

Einstein posits that the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time passes for you. If you were to, say, call in sick from your space ship because you’re spending the day rocketing around the cosmos instead of working your shift, the resulting telephone conversation you’ll experience will sound quite different from what your possibly-enraged supervisor will endure. That is, your side of the chit-chat will come across slowly, drawn out, as if you’re speaking in slow motion. Meanwhile, your manager will sound to you as if they’ve taken elocution lessons from a chipmunk.
We’ve taken a cue from Einstein’s general theory of relativity and have improved our playback speed controls in the EM:RAP iOS app. We’ve added a broader range of playback speeds and a new and intuitive menu for selecting them. We’ve also fixed a number of internal bugs to keep our app from spiraling into the nearest wormhole.
Whether you need to fit an hour-long chapter into forty minutes, or you’re simply curious what it’s like talking to someone while warping to Andromeda, this latest app update is bound to tickle your fancy.

Remember when robot vacuum cleaners were all the rage? How they were supposed to make your life easier by cleaning your home for you, but instead would get trapped in a corner until their batteries died? Well, we here at EM:RAP believe in producing tools which really do make your life easier. That’s why we’ve updated our app’s lock screen player controls, so you can get to the content you need even faster than before.
We’ve also done our share of cleaning around the furniture and have vacuumed up a few bugs and dust bunnies, all in an effort to keep the app humming along at peak performance.
Recharge your batteries and break out of that corner today with our latest app update. We think you’ll like what you see.

Don’t you hate it when you pick up a book you’ve been reading, only to discover your kids have removed your bookmark and—somehow—eaten it? Not only do you have to worry about potential gastrointestinal issues among your brood, but you also have to figure out where you left off in your reading. That can waste precious minutes, minutes you no longer have because your kids have begun complaining about bellyaches and paper cuts on their tongues.
We here at EM:RAP know how precious those minutes of yours can be, so we wanted to make it easier to pick up where you left off in our iOS app. Now when you open the app, it will resume the last episode you were listening to—all you have to do is press play. We’ve also thrown in a few small improvements to make your listening experience all the better. Playback now pauses when interrupted by external audio, and tapping the mini player is all you need to do to expand it. We’ve also made several small internal improvements to keep our app happy and healthy.
Don’t waste another minute—give the latest update a try. And then maybe see about getting a few metal bookmarks. They’re way less appetizing.

It’s never a bad idea to take a moment every so often and give your house a really good cleaning. We’re talking about the sort of deep clean you only make time for once a year, things like washing your walls, or sweeping the dust balls out from behind your refrigerator. Or maybe tackling the calcium deposits under your bathroom sink, or finally steam-cleaning that stain in your carpet left over from last Christmas, when your uncle dropped a half-quart of egg nog while literally rocking around the Christmas tree.
For us, it means finally getting around to adding terms-of-use and privacy-policy buttons to the account screen of the EM:RAP iOS app. Now you can learn about how we manage your privacy all while listening to EM:RAP’s outstanding audio and video content. Give it a try, so long as you’re not too busy scrubbing the soap scum from your shower, or sorting through boxes filled with clothing from high school that you’re hoping might fit once again.

Remember that notebook you had when you were a kid, the one you’d written the titles of all your favorite songs in? How your teacher docked you marks because “Stairway to Heaven” had nothing to do with your assigned homework? Well the faculty here at EM:RAP recognize the importance of making lists of your favorite things. That’s why we’ve gone ahead and built chapter-level favoriting into the app. Now you can tag chapters as you browse or listen, then switch to the favorites tab to reveal them all in a convenient list. It’s just like that old notebook of yours that nearly cost you a social studies credit, except now it contains the titles of all your favorite chapters from EM:RAP’s unparalleled medical education.
