Health
Find an app addition that connects to the iPhones Health App and it’s connections and you can increase your sales/downloads/upgrades with add in features so customers do t have to use multiple apps or add health trackers to your own app so it’s stand alone and doesn’t have to incorporate or pay for Apples features and branding etc. also pay me royalties for the suggestion. You could also add side trips and magnifiers to dial I. To the maps specific locations like a state map has city blow ups for smaller regions. And interaction points like chatting with others in a multiplayer daily walking app. People could also design the route to coordinate with their own daily routes or specific to trails as well. There are all
Kinda of ways to expand this apps functionality but as a stand alone it’s the best I’ve found in the App Store. Easily too 5 for just fun and doesn’t take up time looking at my phone but rather walking and looking at it after. Also, Tell mr Underhill to slow down; I’m not trying to catch him but it would be cool to have someone to talk to on the trail every so often like an outpost to get some pot pie and a beer…. What’s his hurry? He’s 343 miles ahead of me. He paid for the upgrade and I don’t so maybe all these suggestions will be answered when I pay the $3.99 so I am either the smartest reviewer you have ever had or have limited walking info due to financial constraints. It is an awesome app.
Heartoffiction,
Nerdy boyfriend got me into it but I still love it!
I’m not a LotR fan myself but my boyfriend was having a blast with the app so I got into it myself. I’m having such a fun time going on the journey even without a lot of context (although my bf is happy to explain to me what the parallels are). Everyone I’ve shown this app to have thought the unlicensed, copyright free names of people and places were hilarious… I mean, Hairyfoot Potter?! Alice Wonderfoot?! How can you go wrong!!

I do wish you could challenge other real life people and have them show up on your map. I emailed the dev team about it and they promptly replied that they have that option as a goal, but that they’re a small team so they aren’t sure when it’ll be available. But I’m not predicted to finish my journey for like 18 more months so they’ve got time!! And after that I’m sure I’ll start it over. I will say, the paid version is pretty necessary if you want to get anywhere but I don’t mind giving a one time payment of three bucks to support such an awesome app.

Also I went to graphic design school and I really appreciate how simply yet functionally this app is laid out, and the achievement art is GORGEOUS! Huge shout out to the design and art teams!!!!
Sticks01,
Great fun
Huge fan of TLotR here and I have to say this is amazing. I’m completely fine with them not giving the rights to Middle Earth (or just doing it for fun itself) because you can definitely tell where along the journey of “The Ring” you are. Clever little plays on names keep you up to date on where you are, along with little explanations of what’s going on around you makes it a lot of fun. The names of the people that you are “racing” to the mountain (not sure what it’s called in this version but I can only imagine it’s going to be great!) are a lot of fun too. Definitely caters to however active you are/want to be. Right now I’m racing “Jon Snowflake” 😝. It’s just the little things that make it the most fun! It’s definitely keeping me in the walking mindset because I don’t want him to be there before I am (right now I’m about 4.22 miles ahead of him after 95 days and 386 miles, the perfect pace for me to keep it fun to stay ahead)! Seriously though, if you want to make it fun to walk, it’s definitely worth putting the few dollars down (what, one beer? Mountain Dew? Whatever’s a good comparison!) to keep you up and being part of an epic tale!
EthanZWilliams11,
Fantastic and motivating app!
I absolutely love this app and it was well worth the $4 I spent on it! To be clear, I’m quite lazy a little of the time and definitely overweight and motivation to get off the couch has been my biggest obstacle in getting healthy. While I’m still not at the level of fitness I should be at, I’ve found myself exercising more and dropping a few pounds since I got this app a month ago. Just being able to go on and see how much I’ve walked today makes me want to go out and do just a little bit more each time. Whether it's just trying to get to my daily average so that it doesn’t go down, pushing harder to try and gain a little more ground on Mr. Underhill, or walking another mile or two to set a new daily record,I’m exercising a lot more just because of this app! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a big help! And by the way, it’s beautifully designed with detailed descriptions along the way! Five stars for sure!
AgentP86,
Wow but slowing down.
I still really like this app and I will continue to use it. But I do wonder why the further you get into the journey the less distance you seem to cover with your real life steps. For instance it amazes me that somewhere in middle earth there’s a bush that’s a quarter of a mile wide.I realize that there’s only so much programmers can do, I just get frustrated that I only cover about an inch of ground in the app after walking 5 miles in real life. After the first couple miles at the beginning of the journey 1 inch was was equal about a mile in real life. That made sense and i felt rewarded as I watched my hobbit move along with me. Now i walk a couple miles and he has barely moved. Like I said, I still like the app and I am likely to still use it, but it’s less fun than it was now that I’ve passed Bree.
*Addition* I have been about an milimeter away from Weathertop for a month now. My avatar doesn’t appear to have moved at all for some days despite having walked several miles. I’m was excited about this app but I had to remove a star because it has become more discouraging than motivating.
Lolianajoy,
Beautifully Designed, Well Worth the One Time Payment
This app is absolutely worth the $3 or $4 (I don't remember, but the dollar makes no difference. Especially since it's a one time charge!). The illustrations are so pretty, and I love the narrative that goes along with it. If dopamine helps you stay motivated, this is the walking app for you. I have increased my daily steps by about 150%!!! I used to walk an average of 2-4 miles a day, now it's 4-7 miles a day. The passion, energy, and creativity of this app developer shines brightly through their work. I hope that there is another quest after I arrive at Mount Fire! I don't want it to end in a year. My ONLY complaint is that every single one of my friends I've shown this app to has immediately downloaded it and loves it, BUT we can't challenge each other! If that ever is ever added as a feature, this app will be PERFECT.
Thatonegirl0907,
So much fun
I have been using this app for almost 3 months. I don’t have an Apple Watch so I never knew how much I was walking throughout the day. As someone who hates exercise but loves lotr, this app motivated me to get enough steps in to move on to the caption at the bottom of the screen. I love to share this app with my friends and family because it’s actually really fun. Seeing my little hobbit character move across the screen and reviewing the trek I’ve made makes me want to keep going until I can get rid of the ring. I check this app everyday and I am constantly trying to beat my previous record. It’s also insanely accurate to the books which is fun to recall. It gives you a irl glimpse into what the fellowship went through in their long journey. If you like the lord of rings at all, I highly recommend that you get this app.

Question…
So, the idea of this app is AWESOME! But in practice, I’m having trouble… if there is an answer that fixes my problem I will give this 5 stars but as for now… I spent the money to buy this app to be able to track more than one mile a day. I then bought an app that connects my fit bit to my health so that I can use that data to track my steps. So far it’s not working. The health app syncs fine, but it never uploads to fantasy hike. So it’s tracking just what my phone tracks, which since I don’t carry it with me all the time, is useless to me. So far I’m out $10 for nothing and I don’t see any type of help or support for this app. I’m trying to reach out this way and would love to change and update this review if I get answers…

UPDATE:

AWESOME!! Just awesome!!

There was an issue with how the data was being transferred from my Fitbit to fantasy hike and after speaking with one of the makers of the app (who got back to me within 24 hours) and troubleshooting together, they literally purchased the same Fitbit to see why it was working properly. They figured it out and updated to app just so I can walk to Mordor more accurately!!!

GREAT SERVICE! GREAT APP! GREAT THANKS!

So So Lovely
So delightful ! Just a really fun way to think about moving my body and exploring the world around me that isn't so "get my steps in." The artwork is beautiful, I love feeling like I'm following in the steps of the book/on my own adventure, everything runs really smoothly, and there's always something new to get excited about even if I just end up moving a mile in a day, while also feeling real-life challenging: sometimes you just have to get past a bigass field haha. Totally in love with it, what a charming, valuable thing. The only thing I wish it included was a way to add friends! I'd love to be able to congratulate each other in-app on getting to x point, or talk about "Old Tom" and his unnamed-for-copyright-reasons wife haha.
Novangelus70,
Fun little LOTR fan exercise app!
This is one of the funnest most imaginative little apps I’ve ever seen. Must have for fans of Lord of the Rings. The background art and animation are truly inspired and the story line is simple, fun and easy to follow. The app creator obviously isn’t licensed from the Tolkien Estate and so has to make up approximate names for each of the milestones but the approximations are so clever you never have trouble understanding what “Halflington” is or “Comfort Hollow” or any of the other scenes familiar with the stories would know. It’s easy to forget this is a simple pedometer at heart. I’d give it 6 stars if it was available. Really well done.

Update: 345 days later ans I’ve walked 1780 miles and completed my quest. Just awesome and fun! Well worth the money.
