Now choosing to give up during a battle doesn't delete your autosave file. You can no longer get infinite Magistone Shields from the old man in the desert cave. We also removed an invisible wall in Falkirk.

Native iPad compatibility is here! Also, we fixed a bug that locked you without the Knight's Medal if you closed the game while fighting the Monster Chief and loaded an autosave. If that bug has happened to you, interact with the chest in the Monster's Cave and you will now get the medal.

brOakland,
Final Fantasy 1
Total throwback to the original NES Final Fantasy. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that the movement is a bit slow. Would be nice if there was a gameplay speed option. Takes awhile to get around in the game. If you could go faster it would make it a lot more playable in less time. Played FF1 & 2 on a NES emulator that had the speed option so you could cover five times more ground in the same amount of time. Other than that gameplay graphics and storyline are awesome. Also is great that it is a completely offline game. I don’t get WiFi or cell service where I work so that was a big selling point for me. If you like old school rpg’s this game is for you. Takes me back to a time when games had to be fun since graphics and stuff hadn’t evolved. Another great thing is that you only have to watch videos when you die.
Catman 63 ,
Fantastic! Brilliant little game
Back in 1989 I got an NES just so I could play Dragon Warrior (called “Dragon Quest” nowadays). I was so hooked on that game, it was - to this day - one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I am enjoying that same thrill I experienced so long ago with Fateful Lore... the plot, the weapons, the music, even the corny humor - all just fantastic.

I admit there are some things I would have liked to see in this game (such as mapping capabilities), but Dragon Warrior didn’t have those so maybe I’m just spoiled.

I appreciate this brilliant little game for what it is. I’m grateful it isn’t a subscription or gacha game, I miss the days where you just pay for the game and then you can play it as much as you want without being asked to pay again and again for weapons, “gems”, and so forth. Thanks to the brilliant author of this title for sharing his talents and love of old-school JRPGs... and for creating this wonderful game.
AuroraNebula,
Having a lot of fun
I haven’t gotten too far yet, but it’s a lot of fun for a mobile game. No ads, no microtransactions. Something I like is that it’s not too easy, although I feel it could be balanced just a little better. I think the spells are a little too weak for the mp costs to be worth using, so for most battles magic isn’t worth it. So a lot of fights mostly consist of mashing attack. Another more minor complaint is that the splash screens should be able to be skipped by tapping. Or at least tapping should make them pass by faster. Nonetheless if you like retro RPGs, I recommend this. The music is pretty catchy as well, and the exploration is fun.

PS: I see the bits of EarthBound inspiration in here! I love it. Also, that skeleton enemy referencing Papyrus made me lose it.
HiNicckk,
Fun but with some issues
I think this game is fun. I’ve put about two hours into the game and feel that the story is good. The overall gameplay can definitely be improved.

Not being able to see the enemies health is bad design and just plain annoying because at that point it’s just luck to see if you could kill any new enemy encounters. I can meet a new enemy while having the best current items, crit them multiple times, and somehow still lose the fight? How many hours of grinding do I have to do?

It’s VERY grind heavy. You most certainly need to have the most powerful equipment from each town to basically progress.

The chances of running away I feel are super slim. Maybe it’s just my luck, but why do I have to constantly die to try to run away.

Also, maybe slight minor quality of life improvement would be to increase the player speed overall. Feels much needed with the constant grinding and exploring.
Jo'sAnalysis,
Fun, but I encountered a critical issue
The game is a fun and colorful homage to classic RPG style games, and it does its job incredibly well. So far, no glitches or turn-offs, (but one I’ll get to in a second) and the quality is great. It’s funny and unique, but I’ve been suffering through a glitch that prevented my progress. I’ve gone through multiple quests, but the hint bar in the inventory is stuck on me searching for the Wizard. That is my only problem. The game is grind-heavy, and level centric. It’s good for killing free time.
Bkrenfro,
A must have classic
Dragon Quest and Earthbound are among my all time favorite games with DQ being my favorite ever. This game is basically a mash between the two. A cartoony but warrior esc style and some funny enemies. Amazing game great job dev.

People wanna give games it less stars based on personal issues with what they like instead judge it based on the actual quality. No bugs it is polished for an 8 bit inspired game.

Only complaint would be the mana. Way to weak for the cost.

Also would love aesthetic attack animations it would keep me addicted longer but dev just know in my mind you made your masterpiece and I hope you take take good care and or even add to it. I would love to hear a Fateful Lore 2 coming.

Developer please add controller support the virtual pad is great and one of the best but I would be more immersed if I could use a controller.
AwesomeNick94,
Dragon Quest 1 Again!
There’s something so charming about how simple Dragon Quest 1 was, and this nails it pretty well. I like that the battle text is more than just “hit for X damage” etc., and have enjoyed some of the extra lines you get from talking to npcs more than once. There are some minor-ish issues, like the notch on iPhone X+ phones covering up some UI elements, not being able to turn down the volume for the music (can only turn it off entirely), and the on screen dpad not being great.
Neo_89_,
Ending
Finished the game in 6 hours. It was fun but I wish I could keep playing after the final boss. I saved right before the fight so I guess I could keep on playing and not beat the final boss, but I would like to be able to just grind and level up for no reason. There is no option to keep playing, it just says “The End.” Can you make an update that allows for gameplay after the final boss?
Almighty Cloud,
Would be great, but I can’t get far
Hey, so I’ve now been like searching all the walls, looking for a secret way to move forward, but I seem to be stuck? The last quest thing I did was talk to the wizard, but my quest log still says “the king has told you to talk to the wizard.” So I’ve been searching everywhere I can reach, 2 caves (although one leads out and then into another one), both towns, everywhere, but I can’t seem to progress. And I tried to look up a walkthrough but they all end there. Is this just a beta version of the game, or am I missing something?
Fishbowl z,
Back to my nes days
Not a lot of depth in story or character build, but it’s fun for a simple old school RPG style game. The quest progression is a bit confusing and I wasn’t always sure what to do, but figured it out eventually by exploring. A map would be nice. Doesn’t even need to show your location, just something to show where towns/towers are located in the world. Overall it was enjoyable and loved the no ads thing. You don’t see that much. Thanks for making it!
