Description

Designed from the ground up, Figurative brings the desktop-class editor experience from Figma to iPadOS—ready to work with a Magic Keyboard, a trackpad, or a mouse.

• Custom fonts: All fonts available to iOS, including ones installed by you, are available to use with the Figma editor.

• Improved pointer and keyboard support: There's plenty of multi-touch gestures for zooming and panning the canvas. Fondle of your mouse? Scroll wheels welcome too. Unnecessary elements like the autocompletion bar are automatically hidden so they don't get in your way.

• Apple Pencil: Use your Apple Pencil to make selections, drag objects, and use tools.

• Touch gestures: Use your fingers to scroll and zoom on the editor. Made a mistake? Just tap with two fingers to Undo, or three to Redo.

• Touch Shortcuts: Delete, Duplicate, Frame, Group, and much more without a keyboard.

• Export: Large projects? Share and copy exported assets in a breeze from the share sheet.

A free Figma account is required to use Figurative. Figma is a registered trademark of Figma, Inc.

taychil95,
Great in a pinch
By far the best app for iPad -> Figma workflows. However, it’s still an iPad and it comes with heavy limitations. Working in enterprise anything more than a couple dozen screens slow the app to a crawl. Trying to open a huge design system file makes the app unusable (this is due more to RAM limitations than necessarily the app itself, but still a major negative).

Trying to place a photo crashes the app quite often, which is my primary aspect I would be using this for (transferring low fi sketches seamlessly between my adobe comp/sketch explorations to figma). That being said it does it’s job and does it fairly well and much more effectively than any other iPad app for this kind of market. If figma ever extends on the pen support for drawing (default size of pen brush and color, lines default to a group) you could have a great impromptu sketch board to draw and discuss design ideas.
rikikiisland,
Much better experience than on browser!
My dream is to be able to carry iPad pro around instead of my MacBookpro and do all my work being a product designer. This app is not the ultimate solution but does a much much better job with Figma than on native browsers. Thank you so much for building this!

Few suggestions for improvements.
- I experience a bug where I cant click and successfully open a menu but it opens and closes right away. I have to try like 10 clicks before I can get the pop ups like color pickers to stay open. Btw Im using trackpad.

- As a heavy figma user, my left thumb is always on the left “command” key. With this app, holding “command” somehow always pops open the short cut menu which is distracting.

- Sometimes certain commands dont work such as Redo, Undo, cmd+R to change layer names.

Can’t wait till the day when I can ditch my MBP for IPP.
Great work!
thecommamaster,
Amazing. Like, better than Figma on Mac.
I honestly only downloaded this app to use to make some quick edits to some designs when I was away from my Mac (I was really frustrated with the Figma site on Safari), but I never really expected how good this would be. It’s pretty much identical to the Figma Mac desktop app, but it works with Apple Pencil. Magic Keyboard support is incredible (trackpad gestures and keyboard shortcuts work identically to the Mac app), and I haven’t had any issues with plugins at all. It’s the same as on Mac, but with Apple Pencil. I cannot stress how great this is. The only minor inconvenience I’ve really had is with fonts not syncing properly, but that’s mainly just an issue on my end where I haven’t installed the Creative Cloud fonts I used on other devices.
quaildaqb,
It’s alright
Downloaded this for a college class and it could use some fixes. The pen tool is not functioning right when using an Apple Pencil to draw. The pen tool would only do a single line and not any shapes. The app still crashes when placing images. It seems that the app could use a lot of maintenance due to being relatively new (version 1.2.1 as of this review) and it not optimized for iPad use, especially with the included use of the Apple Pencil. If the developer sees this, I’d recommend some beta testers to help identify any problems. The website on a mobile browser on iPad barely has any Apple Pencil support (pencil stories don’t really register). I’m would definitely like to have a big overhaul to fix these kind of issues, the app should work just like the desktop website but with functioning support for the Apple Pencil, Bluetooth keyboard, and mouse.

Promising But Not Quite There Yet
I like the basic premise of the app - to make Figma usable on an iPad; however, there are still a lot of rough edges to this app.

If you look at all of your projects and want to open one of them, you have to triple-tap to open it. Not exactly intuitive.

If you want to switch from the default view to the comments view, when you tap on the comments icon, it reloads the entire project (if you’re lucky). This can take a while, and sometimes it doesn’t complete properly so you end up with a blank screen.

If the design includes other fonts that you don’t have on your iPad, loading them is a rather circuitous process. You can’t simply say, load every font that you can’t find in this project. You have to exit the app, and find a separate font loader, and then load each font one-by-one (including the bold, plain, and related typefaces). Admittedly, this is more of an Apple problem rather than an app problem, but it’s still a problem.
StigsCousin,
Best option out there
It will take some finagling, but if you’re on an iPad Pro, you’ll need to open the context menu (3 dots, top right button) when the keyboard and touch commands stop responding, after using the pencil.

Sometimes you’ll have to use the stylus instead of touch for taps to register.

Despite the issues, if it wasn’t for this developer, we’d have no usable option, since Figma on web on iPad has no right click so you can’t delete layers, etc.
alankemsley,
Buggier than the official website
I don’t know why anyone would download this app. It is super buggy. The Figma website is much better (if you use it with a Magic Keyboard for iPad). The only drawback with the website is you’ll need to use Chrome if you want to pinch to zoom with your trackpad.

Bugs I’ve found:
- Tap menu items (delete, duplicate, copy/paste, etc.) works only about 50% of the time for me
- Double-tap to undo works only about 66% of the time for me
- App crashes 50% of the time when inserting an image from device Photo Library
- Window gets super zoomed in (and toolbars/menus disappear) 50% of the time after switching apps and switching back, and cannot zoom back out
- A blue or gray text selection highlight appears out of nowhere almost 100% of the time, and blocks part of the workspace, and you cannot make it disappear (but this bug also happens when using an iPad on the official website)

I should also mention that I am using the newest iPad Air, and not a Pro.
4ebeyekdnfgdjend,
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app
I love this app. I work primarily from my ipad so it’s great. However, it is pretty glitch with the trackpad of my magic keyboard and external mouses at times. It can freeze or run slow with really big files. And studio artboard mockup doesn’t work with this app. Im not sure if it’s the app or SAM themselves. Other than what I just mentioned this app is great. Even with the new updates everything was updated that same day!
312chiboi,
Thanks for creating this app!
I’ve been wanting to use my iPad Pro more especially when I’m on the road or traveling and do design work as I think of ideas. I was super disappointed to find out that Figma right out of the box won’t work with iPad. Thankfully I found Figurative and I haven’t looked back. It’s so nice to be able to really take advantage of my iPad. I can’t state how grateful I am to have this tool.
Lieblich,
Kind of amazing!
Even though Figma is certainly not optimized for iPad use AT ALL, this app makes it perfectly usable in a pinch.

The latest update adds some critical niceties for touch and pencil support. I’d love to see more quick access buttons to trigger modifier keys and especially showing/hiding the UI.

But otherwise this app makes it viable for me to leave my laptop at home when I go out of town for a weekend or day trip.
