AyleaP,
Was able to finish entire game and bonus play
It's too bad that most of the crashes and glitches happened in the beginning. I can see where you'd not want to buy this. But I love the Final Cut series, mainly because of the beautiful Art Deco scenery, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did.

First mini-game glitch was with the cue ball game. Ball #1 disappeared and I could not finish it. Just pushed SKIP. The second mini-game glitch came in the train station evidence board. Connect the top 3 pictures first, before connecting the rest. If you wait and connect the top one last, the game cannot finish. If that happens, just push SKIP. (This glitch was repeatable at the end where you can choose to play the mini-games again).

After that, the game played flawlessly all the way to the end. The bonus play is long and excellent. There is a souvenir room where you can look for more objects, and you can replay the HOPs and puzzles again.

There were several crashes during the game, but just close it out (double-click HOME button and swipe up), then reopen the game. Your progress will not be lost.

I look forward to the next installment of Final Cut and hope that they test it better than they tested this one.
rgtolboe,
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!
I read all of the posted reviews, and almost did not even download this game. But I had SO enjoyed the previous offerings in this series I decided to give the trial a chance. However, I ran out of time to buy the game at its introductory price, so I had a dilemma: buy it, and most likely end up with a lemon as the reviews overwhelmingly stated, or pass. Well, I bought it. I have an iPad Air, with iOS 8.1. And no, I don't have any connection with Big Fish! Believe it or not, I had NOT OBEY problem with this game!! It never kicked me out, the diary had no problems with overlapped wording, it was smooth as glass! It was a great game, and I enjoyed it immensely. I don't know why so many had problems? Maybe an older iPad? Maybe not enough memory? Maybe an older iOS? Maybe some other settings that made it crash? I don't know, but I was totally surprised that I had no problems, and I loved the game! I will certainly buy the next installment, which I hope comes out, because with all of the negative reviews it may not sell enough to warrant another chapter? For me, and I have had my share of games that did not work, it was as smooth and trouble-free as any HO game I have ever played!
sicamore6,
I love Final Cut series, but (revising my review)***
*** My review below was fixed after completely restarting my iPad. I never have to do this with games anymore, but I should've tried it first before writing a bad review complaining of a bug.
Nevertheless, I'm only raising my review by 1 star from 2 to 3, because even though I finished and somewhat enjoyed the game, the mystery was obvious from the start and the puzzles were so easy, probably the easiest I've seen, and were no fun because of that.

When opening the diary to read the clues, there are sentences superimposed over the new clue. So every page has multiple paragraphs laying on top of each other, making it impossible to read each new clue! And now a new photo is laying on the bottom half of the new clue and won't go away or move to the side like the first two photos did. (This all started when you get to the pirate scene trying to help Frank the gardener).
Please Big Fish, do your QUALITY CONTROL before releasing these ports over to iPad. We know they originated as PC games, but just because they worked great on PC, doesn't mean you shouldn't have testers go through the new iPad port before you release it. I've paid for this already and can't play it.

***STILL HAVING PROBLEM***** ...I love this game..HOWEVER I'm having a problem with it.
New Review: I am still having a lot of issues for this game. I love the actual plot of the game & really want to finish it considering I already bought it. I'm now having problems in the train. When I go to play the game there is one of the disk things missing & the skip & hint buttons still won't work. The game acts like the disk is still there & still tries to get me to play the game but when I get everything in the correct spot it still won't let me win cause the one on the very left is missing. Please fix these bugs, please. I really want to finish this game. Thank you.

First Review: I'm having a problem with this game. I cannot figure out the projector disk game & it will not let me skip it. No buttons will work on the bottom right side of my iPad when I hit them, not just the skip button but also when I got out of the disk game to see if there was anything else I could do or if I'm just stuck at this point, it would not let me hit the hint or the direction button either. So I'm stuck at this point. If you could please fix the bug in this game I would surely appreciate it!

Greetings, Gamers: 👄
UPDATE: Like reviewer sicamore6, I too had my diary bug clear up, but mine was out of the blue! After I wrote a bad review I went back in to play up until purchase point...and the danger diary was straightened out! Bizarre but I'll take it!
So, I'm upgrading to 4 stars. I love everything about the game except for the fact that some puzzles don't have reset buttons and the SG doesn't show the thought process behind certain puzzles' solutions. Otherwise, way to go, EIPIX!
Yup, I went ahead and bought this one.
END OF UPDATE...

Just as another reviewer has already pointed out, this game is virtually unplayable because the diary is screwed up. Don't worry about getting ripped off after you've paid; this major malfunction shows up early in the game.
At least I didn't throw away money on this one. Too bad, seems it could've been an okay game otherwise.
I don't know what in the hell is happening to Bigfish's QC here lately, but I'm losing my enthusiasm for playing these games, much less buying them. The free trial is about all my endurance can take.

Shouts to fellow faves and gamers in general.

May the out-of-the-blue stars light your way

marina in detroit,
Did I luck out?
I'm sort of glad I downloaded this early or I probably wouldn't of after reading all the new reviews. Odd, I didn't have any crash or diary issues as so many others did. I'm on an iPad 2 with iOS 8.1.3. My game ran flawless and the diary looked fine. The load screen was a bit long but Id much prefer that over long scene transitions.

I was really excited to see another Final Cut game. This is right up my alley. Intriguing story, interesting HO scenes and challenging mini games - and no mythical creatures! Set in the 20s, the story includes film projectors that transport you to different movie scenes that the nutty director created for you. Really well done, original and creative. This is exactly the ideas I like to see. I even liked the old timey detective style background music.

Some minor issues - even on expert mode there are far too many glints, especially in HO scenes. I don't need my hand held that much. The map was a bit confusing but the hint system worked well for location points so I didn't really need it.

Thanks Eipix, keep these coming!
Podkayne 42,
Hopeless?
Eipix should not have released this unbelievably buggy game. Check that—Big Fish should not have rushed the release. Eipix is capable of perfectly good game development. The prequels to this game prove it.

I think the real culprit is the Big Fish mantra "a game a day." That may have been a sustainable business model in the early days, but to keep up that pace now that the market is saturated, corners have been cut. Very sad. BF used to be the gold standard in HO games, well worth the premium price. Yet here is another example of poor quality control run amok.

Look at the ratings on this game. There are as many one star reviews as five star—how the mighty have fallen. BF has a history of near-5-star averages. Now, some reviewers are always harsh judges, so you will always have a few low ratings; it takes a lot of very happy gamers to outweigh the grumps enough to generate a 5-star average. Not happening on this game. It just is not ready for prime time.

Delete, reinstall, lose all progress, start from scratch. Hint, Diary, Skip all quit working. Objects claimed disappear. Further progress impossible. Delete, reinstall, start over. Rinse and repeat.

Is it hopeless? I hope not. I look forward to an update. For now the game is unplayable. I paid the discounted five buck price, and I still feel overcharged.

Sad, sad, sad.
Hossryder1,
They should have called this a dozen cuts....
Because that is about as many times as this game booted me out! As if that is bad enough, each time I reloaded, I was back a few steps and had to play them again to catch up.....not acceptable. I love EPIX games....they have the most varied games, the greatest voice overs with moving lips, interesting story lines and top quality graphics. But everyone of their games is filled with glitches....I don't understand the problem...they have enough on the payroll ( yes I did go through all the names on the credits just to see how lean they run their ship). Maybe glitches are not as important in their country...but they are to Americans who play the games. EPIX, you are gifted, talented, artists..no doubt...but please assign someone just for the glitches!
Wishing happiness and Good Health to the team

Hossy
Suzsho,
Glitchy, glitchier, glitchiest
It won't let me past the Franklin Hotel. I deleted the game and tried a second time and once again, it won't let me get to the docks. This, along with various disappearing inventory items and other glitches such as the address holder in the car removing addresses, makes it the most unplayable game I've tried so far. And I've played many! I used to think Eipix was the best but lately, because of this and also a similar experience with The Seal of Solomon, I'm reevaluating and looking for other developers that are more reliable. Sorry guys. I'm scared of your games now. I'm playing in an iPad mini with iOS 8.
Cycling doc,
Still buggy in May 2015
Have paid and got through several chapters but got locked into a dead end where i had retrieved a key but then didn't have it when i needed to insert in door. Changed my login name and started the game over. it was annoying but finally got back to and beyond where i hung up before. now i got thrown back several puzzles and am above the train station in the dark. And that is where I will leave this game. At $7 these are making somebody a lot of money. i think users are justified expecting that Big Fish do a better job of vetting the releases. That IMO is part of what I'm paying for.
