A New Twist on an Old Classic
This New Twist on an Old Classic, brings a breath of fresh air to the Final Fantasy Mobile Games Lineup. From the familiar stories and cast to the new ways to play. This game will have you building a team of your favorite FFVII to play through story content or farm raids, events and dungeons. Much like other Hero Collection games from Square. You can summon (Draw) new versions and skins of the memorable cast to level and upgrade, and take into battle. You can pick from the systems Auto Assigned party or Tailor your party to what you like and best fits the situation. Updated traffics and cut scenes from the FFVII remake blend well to give you a look into the story of the world as well as new stories and some not so known. But most of all we can now have a party with Zack Aerith and Cloud! As a Free to Play gamer there is plenty of opportunity to earn Blue Gems Shards that are used to summon (Draw) heros and weapon upgrades through completeing content, daily quests and missions and joining randome raid parties. So jump in and see what The World of Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis has to offer.
Tomgunnz,
Good, but issues
I am a regular gacha player, and have put hours into several Square Enix based Gachas. Ever Crisis is fun, but there are a few glaring issues. At my current place in story mode, it’s detrimental to manually play. The AI is so advanced, and plays perfectly, that you’re punished for not using auto play. For example, I came across a quest that was recommended 3,300 power, and I was at 5,000. I couldn’t beat it. I put it on auto mode, and it cleared the quest easily.

The interface is a pain. You can’t collect quest rewards from the mission tab. You “collect them” and they’re sent to your mailbox, where you actually collect them. It’s similar to FFBE WoTV, and I always felt it was an unnecessary step.

My final complaint comes from the monetization. So far, I haven’t felt the need to spend money. The issue is how often you’re bothered with buying something. There is a gold highlight tab on certain menus, to let you know if there is a quest complete, or you have new items. To get the gold highlight to go away, you click on it, and it’s gone. On the MTX menus, you can’t make the gold highlight go away. It stays there flashing, trying to entice you to spend. That’s the only reason I can think of, that the gold highlight doesn’t go away. Square, you’re better than that juvenile predatory stuff. I’m willing to give this game a few weeks/updates, but it’s not really exciting me. I know others are loving it, but I’m not hooked.
LonghaulPreacher,
Disappointing, but understandable…
I was hoping for at least the entire storyline of the original favorite, but none of the three are completed. In fact, all three are barely started into the secrets of the three storyline. Slightly disappointed in the way materia and summoning is also handled; haphazardly redone from the original to only go up in level with materials that must be either hunted down or purchased with nothing about experience of use. Of course this could have been incredibly complicated if it was done the old way since there are also tons of various weapons each character can use and they changed that as well, having the weapons playing as two “main” weapons, one ahead of the other, as well as two “sub” weapons that could be anyone’s. There are also outfits to be won or purchased. All of this is confusing and takes away from the stories.

On top of all of that, the stories have been broken up into parts. There is very little in the way of exploration. I don’t expect to be able to go into Cloud’s world and travel all over the place as I did the first time at all.

While all of this is highly disappointing, for what it is, it is also understandable given what they were trying to do. And I will still play it. At least until they finish it.
Dblock Sanenem,
Perfection
One complaint i have is when you enhance materia it only shows if the materia is equipped or not it doesn’t say who it is equipped to. I have multiple load outs with the same type of materia on different characters but you can’t see which character is actively holding the materia unless you jump into edit party so I’ve been having to switch back n forth just to see which character is actively holding the materia I’m enhancing. There’s gotta be a more streamlined way like how about instead of an ‘E’ icon above the materia when we are enhancing like a little character icon or something better to see who is actively holding the materia you are enhancing. Unless I’m just not seeing something I should see that’s my one complaint so far with the game and I finished both ff7 and crisis core stories and well on my way through the first soldier story so I think I gotta pretty good grasp on what I’m doing. Game is near perfection if not perfect but if I were to complain that’s the only issue with me.
Lik Chan,
A mixed bag
This was a lot more disappointing than expected. The main games are watered down abridged versions with a new coat of paint. The new visuals look great including the new chibi models which animate beautifully and actually mirror the cosmetics you unlock. The arranged versions of old music is nice but the way the story is presented is very jarring. Scenes just end with no smooth transition. Combat is very simple and but good enough for mobile. It seems to open up much later.

I HATE the UI. Atrocious presentation with menus under more menus. The navigation is abysmal. It just looks like a cluttered mess. There’s also way too much loading for certain repeat cutscenes just for the gacha pulls. It doesn’t even feel satisfying when you Draw. Moving from screen to screen is not seamless or intuitive. Why? When games like Genshin Impact and Honkai exist, how is this still possible? There’s also a lot of technical issues with the app that other reviews have mentioned. Because of this, I won’t even spend a single dime on this game. Not worth the risk. This is going to be a pure F2P for me. The main draw for me to keep playing are the cosmetics. They’re fun to collect.
Photon Resonance,
This game brings back memories
I played final fantasy vii back when it was released on the ps1, and it was one of my favorite games at the time. This game has the same feel as the original with a bit of a modern touch to it. One small issue that I have with the game though are small moments during gameplay where the game will start to lag. Not only does that slow down game, but it also breaks the audio too. Anytime the game lags, the audio either breaks up or stops completely. When it stops, I have to press home then go back to the app. Sometimes this fixes it, but most time it doesn’t. These new models in game look really nice, but as an optimization suggestion, maybe consider adding an option to swap out the game assets for the classic PlayStation 1 ffvii assets. Having less polygons on the characters and a smooth environment that doesn’t require much 3d rendering could probably enhance performance for lower end iPhones. (Also, I miss the classic look as well.🙃)
Dunkel_USN,
Fun game but longevity is questionable
Gameplay is fun. However the whole game being a gatcha (they even reward gatcha tickets) expect the standard gameplay loops. Battle passes. Paid boosts to earn more quicker, multiple daily check ins, and generous freebies but currently doesn’t feel like they are releasing things with a roadmap in mind but quarter by quarter. There’s a lot of story to tell, characters to release, and materia to gain but after twenty years will they be able to drip feed the same stories and keep us engaged for the type of gatcha model this is built around? Time will tell. Right now the pacing is right about 2-3 years.

Compensation both in how they distribute and how the decide to offer it is wildly varied. Sometimes they will lock you out of your account all weekend with a one sentence apology. The other side is you will spend $300 on a typo banner and get all your crystals back for double pulls. Isn’t very equitable. This and the way competitive events are modeled, I can’t give this five stars no matter how much fun and nostalgia this gives.
lonewolf198505,
Could be improved
It is a good game over all, if you have played into the game a bit you will feel that way too. It’s has some complicated features and is very limiting on resources which can be a pain.
Currently my main team is lingering around 90k power and some of the max missions are 198kish and I just don’t see it. Where do you get the power and why are you not making it more obtainable. Gacha games don’t need to punish you into spending to get stronger they can do fine making you grind for hours to get there. Biggest problem I see is that stops after day one. It is either spend or your stuck. I can beat all the dailies in less then 10 minutes there is nothing else keeping me on the game because I can’t do anything unless I can get stronger or spend a ton of cash, which I won’t do. I like the game but I have 200 psn games you want people to stick around give them reasons too.
Steven Kilpatrick,
Skill is Less Important than Cash
When this game works, it’s among the best Gacha games I’ve played. Not as open and authentic a gameplay experience as something like Genshin, but absolutely the kind of game that has clear care and craft put into it.

However, it has the same problem as a game like the recent NBA 2K24: it’s not about how much you play, or how well you play. It’s about how much you spend.

I’ve built a little team of people topping 95,000 power (all floating near level 46-47). They have gear above their level, they’ve got nice shirts (except Zack—no shirt for Zack).

But, sometimes I’ll go into a battle with a boss that’s power level 55,000 and get absolutely crushed. Doesn’t matter which settings I use (manual, auto) and it doesn’t matter how attentive I am. The boss will wind up an attack that does 8,000 HP of damage on one turn and leave me with no hope.

The goal seems to be: frustrate the player into spending money and making their character EVEN stronger—but since I don’t understand the metrics for “strong” and they’re applied unevenly (I’ve won a couple of 65-70k power battles with an S rank) it’s just not worth the money to guess and hope.

Again, when this works, it’s a real love letter to the franchise. I almost want to see something like this for other entries in the series. But, I’m also always one day away from uninstalling, because the pay-to-win underpinnings feel so antithetical to what I love about Final Fantasy and JRPGs in general.
xxKROB21xx,
Nostalgia Bait
This game has the graphics and music that I wanted on an updated FF7 experience. Not the full remake, but something close to what I experienced when I was a kid. They’ve more or less done that here, all with the intention of using it to ram as much gacha garbage down my throat as possible. The “gameplay” exists as tiny little excerpts between menu navigation, where you’re assaulted with pop-up notifications declaring time-limited store items and countless other opportunities to spend money. Parts of the game have been ripped out in favor of rushing you back to the menus. You don’t loot items organically from gameplay, anymore. You get them from loot boxes in the menu. You don’t build a party in game. You unlock party slots and characters and you assemble your team in the main menu. You don’t have to play the game. You can turn on auto-battle. You can fast forward. Original cutscenes are gone, making each gameplay segment that much shorter so that you can race back to the store. Ugly, ugly greed on full, proud display.
