Description

First-Then visual schedule application is designed for caregivers to provide positive behavior support. For individuals with communication needs, developmental delays, Autism or those who benefit from a structured environment; visual schedules serve to increase independence and lower anxiety during transitions through different activities.

This app was designed for use for the iPhone and iPod. If you are looking for a version that works on these devices as well as the iPad, please check out: FTVS HD: First Then Visual Schedule HD

Fully Customizable!
*Use your own photos or add photos from the built in Internet image search feature.
*Record your own voice to the images.
*Create as many schedules as you need.
*Change the order of a schedule, anytime!
*Checklist feature.
*"Save and Share" schedules via "File Sharing" on iTunes.
* Backup schedules via iCloud.
* Email a PDF copy of a schedule to print off at home.

Visual schedules provide positive behavior support through the use of images that show daily events(i.e. morning routine or therapy schedule) or steps needed to complete a specific activity, (i.e. using the restroom).

User can *record their own voice*, *add their own images* from their computer, internet image importer or iPhone/ iTouch camera, or simply use images from the application’s stock library to create a schedule. Flexibility of obtaining images allows for schedules to be created “on-the-go” to help transition through unexpected changes in a routine.
Within a saved schedule, as many images as needed can be used to create the steps needed to complete a task. There is also the option of choosing different formats for use in each of the schedules. Format options can be changed at a moments notice depending upon the preference of the user:

*THREE DIFFERENT FORMATS:*

*FULL SCREEN*- In this format a larger image appears on the screen. User accesses next image on schedule by simply swiping screen to the left.

*FIRST-THEN SCREEN*- This format shows two images side by side with an arrow between images to guide the sequence of the activity. This is often a visual that is given to portray conditional statements. For example, ”First bathroom, then computer”. This helps let the user know what is coming up next. Split screen can be read left to right with captions underneath each image, or top to bottom of screen with schedule scrolling down to see next image in the schedule.

*LIST SCREEN*- This screen allows images to be listed in a list format where four images are placed on schedule. This is great for a schedule for a child that is very familiar with a system of picture exchange or is not as easily distracted by upcoming activities.

*VOICE CAN BE ADDED TO IMAGES *and added to the images to help further reinforce schedule and to aid with receptive and expressive language acquisition. Please note, that if you have an iTouch that you will need to purchase a microphone to record sound.

*CHECKLIST FEATURE* can be turned "on" or "off" within the "settings" menu. You can add a checkmark by a task to visually indicate that the task is completed.

*ADD YOUR OWN PHOTOS* by using the iPhone’s built in camera or download images from your personal computer to the camera roll or use the apps internet image importer.

* *

*STOCK IMAGE LIBRARY* consists of common images that can be immediately accessed to create schedules.

In addition, for reference we have added three example schedules (contain no audio-output) that can be deleted or edited.

The First Then Visual Schedule app has added THREE new FREE features available to update!

EASIER EDITING, CHECKLIST FEATURE and SEARCH BAR.

EASIER EDITING of Schedules: You can now change the sequence of an existing schedule. This added feature allows the user to insert, delete or add an images anywhere in a saved visual schedule.

CHECKLIST FEATURE: This option allows the user to go into the settings feature of the iPhone and enable a “checklist option”. User can now touch a small white check at the corner of an image that will then place a larger check on the image and fade the image. This gives the user a opportunity to visually show that an activity is completed. To disable this option, user can simply go back into the settings menu of the iPhone and “turn off” feature.

SEARCH BAR: We have added a search bar into the stock/saved image library so user can access previously uploaded images even faster.

Normal is a Dryer Setting,
GREAT App For Everyday Use!
I purchased this app to have a portable, multifunctional "First Then" tool for my 5 year old, who is impacted by Autism. This app met and exceeded my expectations, and the addition of the visual schedule makes difficult transitions in public settings far easier to endure. We've been able to ditch the cumbersome PECS now, and my little guy enjoys using the iPod to navigate through his daily activities. This app is almost unbelievably affordable too for the functionality and versatility it brings to the user (VERY user friendly!). The developer has answered my questions personally through email (I tend to be a little technically challenged, ha!) and is incredibly friendly when replying to my questions. Thank you, Good Karma, for yet another amazing app (I purchased My Choices previously with incredible success). I have found your apps to be so in tune with exactly what my child needs....can't wait to see what comes next!
ShannonPrimer,
Awesome app
Love the visual schedule, I previously bought the other visual schedule app that was 5 times as much and this one works so much better.

I also like the choice if you do this then you get this. Our teacher at school has a pec card at school that says this same thing. No longer do we have to carry pecs we can make one on the iPod touch immediately!

Love not being dependent on PECs or our speech teacher!
Marsufernandes,
Great app!
I just bought this app and already I simply love it! I'm an autism teacher and can make schedules on other software, but this app makes it so easy and quick to do. It interfaces with you photos and with Google images and allows you to record. Plus you can send a pdf file! I will use this both for my son and for my classroom!
MalindaCook,
Love this app!
This is a great app for all children who are visual learners! Wonderful for kiddos with autism, launguage delays, or even toddlers who are learning to speak. Love that you can take "on the go" pics and uplaod them on the spot. This app has made my life as well as my daughter's much easier! Thanks
AprilMcLovin,
We simply love this app
Feb 13, 2011- I haven't had the problems stated about using on iPad. I'm using an iPad2 and we love this app more each time we find another use. I found it makes a wonderful visual shopping list for our children, one with ASD, to help keep them occupied while we shop. I'm always looking for new ways to use it. We got it when it first came out and it's the only app we've consistently used. I was thrilled to find out there was sound on it when we upgraded our iPod from 1st gen to 3rd gen and then to use it on our iPad has just been even better. Our photos aren't blurry and I haven't had it crash once. So far we use it for a schedule, first-then board, social stories and now a shopping list. I can't wait to see what else we can get out of this app.

Aug 13, 2010 - I like it. More importantly, my son (3 yrs) will try and use it. He isn't into techie gadgets. I've been looking for something that loads quickly, does what you need and you can move on. Our special needs son doesn't have the patience to wait while we go through menus nor do we have the time afterwards. We needed something that simply showed him what he needed to do and was very easy to create a new list on the fly. It was also great to use as a social story creator about flying on an airplane for our trip. Definitely recommend to anyone who needs a reliable, easy-to-use app to help with transitioning or communication.
Tim bourque,
Needs to be updated
This app needs to be updated to be compatible with update apple products. Will no longer work.
CaryNCAuthority,
IPad failure
I have a bought version that works on old iPad but does not work on my new iPad. They want me to pay again for the HD version. Not recommended.
WuzieB,
Perfect for kids with special needs
We just started using this app with our daughter (12) who has down syndrome, and it's been a huge hit already! We made schedules for the morning and night, and are planning to make schedules for her scholastic work too. She loves being in charge of her to do list, and the List Mode is the perfect combo of textual instructions she can read with pictures for visual cues. We use it with the check list so she can tick off what she's done.

Previous reviews mentioned that you cannot change the order of the list items. This must have changed, because you can now change the order. When in Edit Mode, click the minus sign at the top, then move the bars on the right of each list item to sort.

On the downside, the app crashes (though info is still saved) when you try to load pictures more than once or twice. And when you use the checklists, touching the picture removes the check, which makes it nearly impossible to use when in the Full Mode. But both of these are minor issues. It's a great app and we already realize this is going to be one of our most used applications!
specialappssk,
Major meltdowns avoided, Yes!!
5 stars for enhancing communication and just plain making our lives easier, at a very reasonable price too! I just got this app and their other app, My Choice Board. I do agree with the need for a more intuitive way to jump through the pictures in the library but it is by no means a deal breaker at all. This app does what is supposed to and that is golden! The version I just got does have the check off feature, which fulfills my son's need for order. Done? Check! I have done my homework and I am thrilled at having found a reasonably priced tool for managing transitions and hectic times like getting ready for school in the morning. I have used this successfully with my 6 year old, who has high functioning autism, and my typical 3 year old. When school starts I plan to be using it often with my speech therapy students as well! Well done, and I look forward to seeing more apps from this company.
Skyler101,
Great app!
I originally downloaded this app to use in my classroom when I need to create a schedule on the fly. I teach a high school remedial reading class with a mix of special needs, EL, and underperforming kids. I took photos of all the different steps in each of three rotations and created a schedule for each group. That way when I have a new kid or one who needs extra reenforcement I can hand them my phone to help smooth the transitions since I am teaching a group the whole time and can't move with individual kids.

I've also been using this app with my independent-minded toddler. I created a bedtime schedule for her to follow. She thinks it's cool that she can see each step and do it on her own. When I would try to direct her verbally she would scream at me to leave her alone. However, she will follow the visual schedule happily.
