WHAT IS FLUENT FOREVER?
A revolutionary language learning method developed by Gabriel Wyner, an opera singer who needed to learn multiple languages quickly and retain them forever. Fluent Forever's products have evolved from pronunciation trainers into a bestselling book and now into the most crowdfunded app in history. Discover the immersive mobile experience designed to rewire your brain into fluently speaking any new language and hack your memory to remembering it forever.
...................
HOW IS FLUENT FOREVER BETTER?
Rather than distract or briefly entertaining you like other "gamified" language apps out there, Fluent Forever doesn't waste your time with inefficient "bite size" lessons - instead, it immediately gets you correctly pronouncing and hearing the sounds of your target language, then efficiently has you learn the most frequently used words and push them into your longterm memory, and finally has you naturally build sentences using words you know and practice your speech to fluency. In short, if you're serious about speaking a new language, Fluent Forever will get you there faster.
...................
FLUENT FOREVER'S METHOD
The foundation of our proven method, as detailed in Gabe's bestselling book, is based on the principles of personalized flashcard creation and spaced repetition, extremely powerful learning tools that optimize your brain’s memory abilities. So not only will you learn a language quickly, you’ll never forget it.

1. Train Your Ears With Pronunciation Lessons

You need to learn what a language sounds like before you can learn how to speak it. Our powerful tools like detailed instructional videos, mnemonic imagery and minimal pair tests will train your ears in the sound system of your new language.

2. Learn Vocabulary Through Images Instead of Translations

Within weeks you will understand the sounds of your new language, and you can begin learning words. By creating personalized flashcards using our memorable word association system, you will rapidly learn the most used words in your new language. You will then push these new words into your long term memory by reviewing your flashcards using our automated spaced repetition system.

3. Learn Grammar Naturally Through Stories Relevant To You

Once you learn the most used words in your language you can begin learning sentences. By visualizing how your new words fit into sentences about topics you’re interested in, you will naturally learn grammar through immersive stories, as opposed to boring lessons or complex conjugation tables. You will never be forced to learn words or grammar you don’t need or want to learn.

¡Hola! Guten Tag! Bonjour!

Welcome to another Fluent Forever App update!

-- Who Wants To Play A Game? --
With this version, we are introducing a new language learning game (version one) to the app for learners of Spanish, French, and Italian. You are up against Brian the Brain. After selecting one of the 625 word list words, you will have six chances to give clues to Brian and see if they can guess your word. The better clues you give (especially if they are in your target language), the bigger chance you have of winning. Good luck!

Bonjour! ¡Hola! Ciao!

-- How Many Reviews: Part Two! --
We already made it easier to see how many flashcards are available for you to review via the Home Screen with our last update and now we have added that info in the review session as well. Who said you can't have your cake and eat it too? Not us!

-- Celebrate Those Achievements and Earned Streaks --
Achievements and streaks are worth celebrating, so to make it more of a party, we have put them on their own modals (that's a fancy word for a dialog box that pops up, in case you didn't know).

-- Set Your Own Streak Goal --
7, 14, 21, or 30?! How many days will you set your streak goal for? And more importantly, will you achieve it on the first attempt? Setting a goal helps make learning a language a daily habit. And we all know how powerful daily habits can be!

-- How Many Reviews? --
It is now much easier to see on the Home Screen just how many flashcards are available for you to review. No longer will you need to gamble whether you have enough time to finish studying before your dinner is ready.

-- Study Reminder is Back --
Some people weren’t receiving the study reminder who should. We squashed that bug. You get a study reminder! And you get a study reminder! And you get a study reminder!

-- Home Screen Tiles Play Musical Chairs --
We did a little reorganizing of the Home Screen tiles to make them more intuitive, making your language learning journey easier.

Buongiorno! Hola! Konnichiwa!

-- Push Notification Adjustments --
We made some adjustments and improvements to our push notification support and screens.

-- Upgrades and Bug Fixes --
You watched a video, so it should show up in the watched video section. We knew that; you knew that; the app didn’t want to do that. It is now behaving again, as are the app tiles when it comes to locking and unlocking. We also upgraded Analytics React Native -- boring for some, exciting for others.

ejn88,
Almost there!
I love the fluent forever method and this app is extremely user friendly. Unfortunately, because I started with the book and the anki card method, I actually find that the app became a little too watered down during the effort to make it fast and user friendly. The thing I miss from Anki is being able to really customize the cards. To help me remember what words were masculine or feminine, I would write masculine words in blue and feminine in pink. That’s not possible in the app so I’m finding I’m having a lot more trouble with remembering genders of new words.
Also, when making cards on my computer, I could use any photo I wanted. The way they allow you to choose photos on the app is certainly very fast but if I’m not loving the bing options, I wish there was a way to choose a photo from somewhere else like google search or even import a photo from my camera library. Maybe some people aren’t as picky as me with this but when using anki, I enjoyed the process of finding the exact right photo to help me remember even if it took a little longer.
Lastly, I wish there was a way to access all of my flash cards in the app so that I could look up a word or review as many cards as I want per day. In anki I was able to do a custom study session which I can’t do in the FF app.
Like I said, I think FF is amazing and is by far the best language learning method out there, I would just like a little more customization abilities in the app :)
Sithmaith ,
Who came up with this crazy word list?
I am in the middle of my free trial, and I will admit that I have learned a lot so far. I read the book a while back, and have been trying to find some way to make the flashcards that incorporate pronunciation. I thought that this was it. I love the design of the flashcards. They test you on pronunciation details, spelling, and translations, and they have the spaced repetition built in. Sounds great.

Here's my problem, though. Where on earth did they get the words? In the book, the author said that you should learn 625 words that will give you most of what you need for a basic conversation, and that you should use this list to make your flashcards. So you would think that the flashcards in the app would come from this list, right? Nope. I have flashcards for "gray album" and "Yugoslav album". People don't use albums anymore, for either music or photos, and Yugoslavia isn't even a country anymore. There are a lot more examples, but I can't go look them up, because the only way you can see your cards is to do a review of the flashcards. I can't find a list of my flashcards anywhere in the app.

Since the app isn't using the recommended word list, and I have no control over what words are made into flashcards, I have to dock 2 stars off my rating. I don't know if I'll continue with the subscription after the free trial. It's that annoying.
Sionainn J.,
Need to be able to add own material!
This app is fantastic as a way to easily and efficiently make flash cards and review them. I also enjoy the ability to easily search for photos or add my own from my camera roll. It would be an invaluable tool to my language learning except for a pretty serious drawback for us advanced learners: There is no way to add your own words/sentences as flash cards. The explore tab rarely ever returns a match for any vocabulary I’ve encountered naturally through the media I consume in my target language, and it rarely includes the right conjugations of verbs when I’m trying to learn grammar. I can’t add chunk phrases I’m trying to learn, either. I’m disappointed that fixing this issue hasn’t been made a bigger priority. Users absolutely need to be able to add their own material!! It’s frustrating because otherwise I think the app is a near-perfect tool, but I hate being limited to only the material available through the explore tab. So, great for a beginner to whom all vocabulary is potentially new, but unbelievably frustrating to use as an advanced student. Please, please fix this issue! It has SO much potential aside from this!!
Samuel J Loncar,
The best way to really learn a language
Some background on me. I can speak and read German well, because I’m a scholar of German stuff and have lived there. That’s the only language I’d say I really know decently. However, I passed my French reading exam in grad school easily and can read some French, but I love French and wanted to learn the language to speak and understand. Enter Fluent Forever.

I discover Gabe some years back, but I love the app and let me explain how it’s helping me. I think Gabe has made the most significant discovery in language learning in his focus on pronunciation. I’ve found afet very little work with the Fluent Forever method, I could begin aurally comprehending some of the French tv I watch with subtitles. This blew me away, but I realized it’s because my mind could actually make out the word distinctly. So, what may seem like a pain - all the spelling and pronunciation work - is actually the magic of language, and what eventually makes it become easy-seeming and fun.

When I’m farther through the app’s French course, I’ll see if I can update this review. But, having tried many different methods before Gabe’s, this is unparalleled for series language learners. Thanks to Gabe and your team!
Yeli-95,
I can’t live without this app
I’ve been using this app for years and every update makes it so much better. This app should be the most popular language learning app on the App Store. I can’t sing it’s praises enough. Everything from the pronunciation videos to the sentence sets is incredibly helpful.

There’s a couple of things that I think could still help the app. For example: being able to delete cards from your list instead of waiting for them to come up on review to delete, being able to search for a card from your list, being able to search for a word or sentence at the same time but then choosing to create either a word or sentence, and being able to search by dictionary form to find any and all of its conjugations. I also think gamification could be better- for example, breaking people into leagues or even just having a streak list that’s different by language.

But anyhow, those are little things. This is the best language learning app on the App Store. Thank you Gabe and team.
reviewsrarely,
Please add gender to French vocabulary
I am a dedicated user of this app, studying French, and it has really helped my comprehension and pronunciation. It is certainly among the best apps out there for these skills. I am pretty frustrated, however, that the source dictionary for the word-only flashcards in the app does not include gender, making the vocabulary-building function of the app pretty useless. No point in making noun flashcards that don’t integrate gender.

I do like the immersive aspect of the grammar but I’m having a hard time building the specific vocabulary I’d like to acquire outside of the example sentences offered. All it would take is using a source dictionary that includes gender. I inquired with customer service about this and discovered that the Spanish version of the app DOES include genders for word-only cards, which means French learners do not have access to what Spanish learners have, though French is certainly nearly as popular a language for an English-speaker to learn. I would LOVE to know when we will have full access to this vocabulary-building feature!
CassielM16,
On the right path!
This app is really great for training your brain to think and listen in your target language. And that’s something I definitely think is lacking in other apps like Duolingo. However, the interface is a bit messy, in my opinion. It’s not as clear cut as I think it could be. As well there’s only 6/7 languages available to learn. Duolingo has lots of different languages to learn. The reason this is bothersome for me personally is that none of my target languages are available on this app. I’m currently studying Gaeilge at my university and Dutch in my spare time. Neither are available so I looked at the German course which is the closest to Dutch. It’s well constructed however, there’s an assumption that everyone know IPA which I don’t think is correct. I’ve never used it and none of my professors use it in their teaching style either. I get that it’s supposed to make it easier but it’s basically learning an international alphabet to learn the target language alphabet. It’s a bit disorienting to say the least. Overall this app has outstanding potential and I hope they get some more languages added soon!
hbeard05,
I believe in the method, but the App is still super glitchy
I started using Fluent Forever in July to learn French after reading the book. I think it is a more effective method than apps like Duolingo, and I am willing to pay for that, but at a $10 a month subscription I think this app has too many bugs still. It crashes on me fairly regularly and the word count often doesn’t go up after a review session when I’ve moved words from short to medium term memory. Since this is the app’s only measure of progress (an area I think could also be improved because after B1 there’s such a huge jump in vocab to reach the next level) this is especially frustrating. It also makes me unsure if the progress in the review session was recorded by the app or if it will keep showing me those cards because they haven’t been moved to the medium or long term sections. I also find it frustrating there is no way to access your known words/ flash cards outside of the review sessions randomly giving them to you.
HighwayFlower,
No nonsense
The jarring reality of this app is that it does not spoon feed you Kindergarten words and build up a basic arsenal of everyday phrases. No. It takes an approach that more closely reflects the reality of a baby who is born into a language: It is all around you, and it does not usually arrive in systematic boxes like “here are your numbers” or “these are the days of the week”.
I am two months into the program, and I am trusting the process. It’s shocking how much I have already learned, and it feels a little bit strange that I haven’t yet learned how to say “Hello, my name is...” That’s ok!
One of the facets about this program that was very difficult for me at first was being okay with being wrong. I like being right, but the algorithms in this app actually help you learn better when you get things wrong. The program reinforces words from so many different angles that I don’t really feel like I’m memorizing. It’s more like a feeling of familiarity. And that is amazing to me!
lbareit,
Too Racy
I’m not sure if this problem is inherent to the app or if it is due to users (I’m not sure if the image suggestions come straight from Bing or if it suggests the most frequently selected photos by other users of the app), but for probably 1/3 of words racy/sexual images appear when I try to make flash cards using the BASIC vocabulary. They aren’t even racy words - random words like “46” or “teacher” or “pants” seem to far to often suggest lewd photos for my flash cards. I got tired of it and quit on the app. I wanted so badly to like it and I DID like how easy it made creating flash cards (though some of the sentence examples were a little out there, seems like it is mostly helpful for a super new beginner who just wants to do straight vocab out of context or a high intermediate/advanced learner who’d like to encounter some new vocab in the context of sentences).

If these two problems (especially the first one) could be fixed I would very likely begin using the app again. As I said - it is very user friendly and that made creating flash cards feel so much more manageable.
