Description

Golfing Around is a easy to pick up golf simulation.

Hit a long drive from the tee,
Chip onto the green from the bunker,
Putt into the hole on the green,
A nice simple round of Golf.

Once you get a feel for the controls maybe try curving a long shot onto the green across the lake, keep an eye on the wind though and watch out for the trees!

Nice Game
I enjoy this game and have been looking for one like it on iOS for years. Simple overhead graphics reminiscent of Mario Golf on NES and Gameboy. Quick and easy to play, but with enough challenge to stay interested. Being able to create your own holes and play those made by others is a huge bonus. A couple of improvements would make it 5 stars. I tried to contact the developers with my suggestions, but the links go to Twitter. I don’t have a Twitter account and don’t want to get one. How about giving an email address? I’m hoping you read the reviews, so here’s my suggestions. First and most importantly, after paying to remove ads I was dismayed to find that I’m still bugged to watch an ad to reset the hole on every shot when I’m over par. I’m not interested in cheating or watching ads. Please include an option to turn that off once you have paid. Second, it would be nice to have the option to begin each hole at the map view instead of having to select it every time. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Shaneeners31,
Fun old school feel.
Enjoying the game. I think there is definitely room for improvements with the golf mechanics. Zooming in on the mini map would be a great feature. Naturally I want to be able to swipe left or right to move my shot. The wind should show up in the mini map as well since aiming is a bit easier in that view. Backspin and more loft would make the golf mechanics and little more smooth in my opinion.

The course creator is the coolest part of this app by far. Have at it and create holes from your imagination or recreate your favorite holes on the tour. You can create a full golf course for yourself or upload it to the cloud so others can play it.

Overall a great relaxing experience.
Manowich,
Not a Bad Golf Game (But Not Great Either)
Out of the majority of golf games on the App Store, “Golfing Around” is not bad. The simplistic style and controls go well together, and the ability to create and share custom maps is certainly a plus. However, the game does have some frustrating moments. These “moments” often appear in the form of estimating where/how far the ball will travel when choosing a club (while this is unique feature, it often doesn’t matter as the game sometimes doesn’t correctly estimate the ball distance).

I don’t want to complain too much, as this is a free application, but it can be frustrating when trying to play.

PS: If I paid to remove advertisements from the application, then I shouldn’t have to watch an ad to reset a hole; I should be able to do it as many times as I’d like.
Old ft,
Thank you, Colin
For making such a fun little golf game. I prefer this kind of golf game over the “for real” simulations. Took me a bit to figure out what to do, but now that I have, I think this may be my favorite game of yours (and I have several).
PS: Ahem, the glowing review was based on the first course. The other two are ridiculously difficult, and I spent a frustrating amount of time in the rough, water, sand. Then I learned to change clubs. But as others have said, it still can be hard to judge the power of your swing and where the ball is going to end up. All in all, I liked it enough to buy the ad opt out. I believe in supporting you for the enjoyment you give me.
PS no 2: thanks for the tutorial. A little late, but it helps. Good job.
Mrfarm,
One of the best single player golf games
Great game overall. Controls are a little odd to get comfortable with but once you understand the power and wind direction combination needed for certain shots it’s fantastic. Double tapping the screen allows you to zoom in or out and curving the ball requires you to overpower a shot into the red portion of the bar. Other than that the controls are straightforward.

There are also user created holes with sections such as recently created, most played, most liked, and featured holes. This also means you can create your own holes! I already saw the iconic par 3 from TPC Sawgrass with the hole on an island in the middle of the pond.

The free version lets you play about 4 holes until you see an ad, unless you quit out of a course. I’ve seen ads pop up more frequently when quitting out. At least the game lets you get into a rhythm of playing before throwing an ad in your face, so that’s a positive.

The games free; download it now if you’re into golf.

Edit: please add the wind direction indicator to the map of the hole so you don’t have to keep switching back and forth to see the wind while looking at the entire hole.

Great
This game is great. It’s simple. It’s fun. It’s not too hard. It’s not too easy. It’s a perfect balance of a lot of features that many people will like. Featuring custom player-made courses is genius. However, there are some additions that could put this game way over the top. For one, although I love creating holes to play, I want the ability to put them together as a playable 9 hole course. These could be shared with friends and would be a lot of fun to compete with one another on. This would allow people to recreate real life courses, as well as ones of their own imagination. Besides this, this is by far my favorite golf game on the App Store. Wonderful job.
hsidhsbs,
Give it a try
I am an avid golfer myself and you might assume that I would want a hard core simulation based on that fact, but that is quite the opposite I’m afraid, after a day of focusing on every little detail for every swing I often just want to cool off with all the fun parts of golf that is where this game comes in, it simple enough that I don’t have to think but not too much so that I am bored out of my mind, it strikes that perfect balance, it sets out what it intends to do, be a chill golfing game, but if I had one suggestions it would be add some nice chill jazz behind the game, it would be nice
Feralparrot,
No feels
Ok... the charming visual simplicity and crafting my own courses was an attractive idea but after playing a round, I am disillusioned with the idea.

Swinging feels terrible. For a number of reasons...

I have a limited top down view of my golfer with almost no sense of place on the course. The fact that I can ‘aim’ without seeing the target!? Worthless.

I have to switch to map view to see the potential of my club and aim, but don’t see that distance relationship while swinging so I am always surprised at the results.

The swing meter rotates your aim oddly and not predictably, as you approach its max. Again, with no reference to the course while this is happening, it’s almost impossible to take advantage of.

The club ranges that you see on the map view are wrong. Several times when chipping or putting onto the green, my shot exceeded the max of my club’s displayed range... so... frustrating.

Selecting clubs is annoying. It’s a tap to select the next club, which sounds quick and easy without another menu... but what you end up doing is passing up the club you want 1-3 times.

I would love to play a light fun golf game and I would love to make and exchange courses for my friends and kids... just not for this game.

Shows promise amid flaws
Gotta get this one out first - this game needs at least a tiny bit of how-to explanation. There’s Nothing. You get dropped on the first tee with a few icons, period.

The icon for which “club” you’re hitting should be clearer. Among other confusing bits, I wasted several shots in a sand trap until I noticed I had the putter out. Why the game doesn’t always put a wedge in your hands in a bunker is beyond me.

One big fat Pro, however - the ability to design holes, and also play holes that other people have designed. Although you can’t get a nine-hole score from those holes...sometimes you don’t get anything on the scorecard because the game has no idea what the number of that hole was.

Wind is way too big a factor. The icon would say a nice little 7 mph breeze, but the shot would be affected as if it were a 30-mph gale. And trees are unfortunately not “90% air”, they’re more like solid cylinders 20 feet wide. And there’s no way to “punch” the ball low to keep it under the branches.

Oh well, I guess I was hoping for something more like a golf game and less like a video game.
MoxleyQue,
After buying ad free game is useless
Downloaded the free version, played it, seemed ok except for the obnoxious ads. So when I paid $2.99 to remove the ads, the game suddenly became unplayable. Every hole I play, no matter if it’s a pre-loaded hole, one I made, or the Public holes, every time the hole or course starts in Demo mode, making it literally impossible to play the game normally. I tried deleting the app and trying again, but the exact thing happened again. I tried restarting my iPad, that didn’t work, either. Clearly this is deliberate and unless you want to get ripped off, don’t download the pay version. Truly sickening that people would actually design a game to screw people out of money like that. Going to have to file a complaint with Apple to have the game removed. Obviously never getting my money back.
