bestincal,
Great iPhone app, but watch needs help
I’ve used GymGoal since the first GymGoal, and have absolutely loved it. The ability to track your exercises, reps, have pictures and videos, and create custom exercises is great. The app works flawlessly on the iPhone. If i was to rate this for the iPhone portion, it’d be a five star app.

The Apple Watch is a different story though, and if I could give the iPhone a 5, I’d give the watch portion a one star rating. The app constantly crashes on the watch, and you have to reopen it, and hope and pray that it will pair with your phone. The app says that you can start a routine that’s saved as a schedule directly from your watch, without needing your phone, but when you launch the app it says “open GymGoal on your iPhone”. But GymGoal is open on both devices but they don’t talk to each other. And now the new version doesn’t give you a notification on your watch when your rest period is up, so you have no idea when to start your next set.

The potential is there for the Apple Watch portion and I hope that the developer fixes the issues. I love this app, and have used it for years, but if these Apple Watch portions aren’t fixed, I may have to look elsewhere.
wngs02,
Backup no longer works
Best workout app around, but the developer’s server seems to be having issues. I can no longer back up my data without receiving an error, “Invalid JSON.” I have tried with my established account and a brand new test account to no avail. Moreover, emails to the developer are rejected with a message stating the account mailbox is full. I recommend adding a feature where the user can export data without going through the developer’s server (even their “email a copy” goes through the server).

UPDATE: Developer, as always, was quick to respond to problems with the app or server that supports the app.
Leuk O'Dont,
Solid App
Been using this app for a few years and I recommend it. It’s not full of fitness models, but instead but instead full of great functions. The graphing of improvements is very motivating, and ability to great dynamic supersets👍🏻
For developer, here are some areas that could be improved to make it even better:
We have option to add exercises like kettle bell or TRX. Give us the option to delete or hide exercises (don’t need list of things like curling)
Heart rate monitor is buggy. It used to connect & display live data on app and watch.
Navigating could be smoother. If you leave active routine ( like home page) you cannot jump back into that routine the same. Now you’d have to pull up log and use edit feature for remainder of routine.
Long Time User Dev,
Best workout tracking app ever
I have been using the app for many years. I have tried looking at other apps and normally takes me 2 minutes of looking at them to realize they fall short when it comes to match GymGoal for functions and flexibility. And then they are deleted.
I have reached out to support a few times and have always gotten a quick and concise response. Normally it is a question about how to do something. If the function does not exist, support is very open to adding it.
It you are looking for the best workout planning / tracking app, this is it!!
Concerned in Conshy,
Problem with Update (Oct. 2019)
I’ve been using Gym Goal for years, but the recent iPhone update has unfortunately caused difficulties. In particular, when I type in a word or number (say, the number 10, as in repetitions), the font color blends in with background, rendering the writing essentially invisible and the app useless. If this isn’t fixed soon, I may have to get a new workout app. Here’s hoping they take care of it!

UPDATE: the switch to Light Mode worked — thank you very much. I’m assuming you’re now working on a new update, because, alas, now the app is crashing. Hoping it’s all sorted out soon. I love this app!
Mark Vizenor,
The best app I have used to track my workouts
t
I have used the app for 2+ yrs now. I like the variety of exercise movement free weights, machines, Cardio, and stretching. also add your own. Keep track of progress in 1 RM, body weight and measurements . The test timer keeps me on track. Most important to me is being able to load my lift programs into a schedule for weeks and they are easy to load when going into a new phase. Or use the body map to make one up. I would recommend it
coingroup,
Great app, Apple Watch can be buggy
At times, the Apple Watch app can be buggy in that sometimes it doesn’t save sets or if I’m editing a set, it’ll pull up something completely different. But even with that, this app is hands down the best app for gym logging and tracking your progress. I would like the developer to make it easier to designate circuit exercises and easier to log circuits instead of having to swipe between exercises.

I have used Gym Goal for several years. It is a very effective tool to track, customize exercises and build routines. My only wish for the next upgrade would be the alphabetical listing of my custom exercises. They currently list in order of date created.
Overall a great app. Effective for all levels. Great customer support the few times I have needed it. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about fitness.
WhiskeyRomeoLima,
Fast, Convenient, Accurate record
OK, fast comes with experience, but once you have it, all the above applies. In the beginning over thirteen years ago, I could never remember where I left off on an exercise. Recording workouts manually was a time consuming, error prone, and interfered with the flow of the workout. Now I have an electronic, searchable database covering thirteen years.
cjeblue,
Obnoxiously unnecessary and not user friendly
Simple things such as logging a workout is for some reason extremely difficult. I have used other apps and it has been very easy to follow and understand. Put in info, click and done. I just did a treadmill workout where I started the exercise timer on the app and pressed finish workout. It then disappeared and when I did some looking, found that it gave me 1 minute of credit for it. When I try to manually put the information in, it lets me know that it is not recommended to do so. This could be and should be so much easier
