Description
The Hodson Computerized Analysis of Phonological Patterns mobile app (HCAPP Mobile) is a user-friendly app that helps speech-language pathologists (SLPs) use their mobile devices to assess and analyze phonological systems of children who have highly unintelligible speech and also to document progress over time.
The child names 50 objects and pictures, and the SLP transcribes any deviations of productions on the HCAPP recording form. Typically a child’s productions can then be entered into the app in about 5 minutes (depending on one’s touchscreen typing skills and the individual client’s level of severity). After the 50th word is entered, the HCAPP mobile analyzes the child’s productions quickly and then provides a Total Occurrences of Phonological Deviations score and also individual scores for each deviation.
After having gone through all 50 words, a two-page Phonological Analysis Summary report is then produced for viewing onscreen and can also be emailed for printing at a later date. This report includes:
- Total Occurrences of Major Phonological Deviations (TOMPDs)
- A Severity Rating specification (mild, moderate, severe, profound) based on TOMPDs
- A Goal Statement specifying potential optimal target patterns for a highly unintelligible client (based on the percentage data collected)
- A place to provide notes regarding specific productions of words and diagnostic information.
