Fun! But ….
I’ve enjoyed the game play so far. The environment looks great and the ships are cool. I looked forward to later game mechanics and getting into bigger ships and changing their components. Sadly, the game has some serious bugs. The game often crashes and requires a restart. The chat function doesn’t work most of the time, and you need it to work to complete certain tasks. I can progress no further in the game as I am stuck with two research missions in chapter 17. They refuse to complete no matter how many research I complete. I’ve heard you have to use fleet A and not change fleets during the research, but this hasn’t worked for me. No matter what fleet or ship I use it doesn’t work. I want to see this game succeed and would love to continue progressing in the game, but currently I’m at a roadblock. Perhaps if they fix some of these issues I can give it another try. For now the game is unplayable.

Update: The recent version update seems to have fixed a number of the original issues I was having. I’m progressing along now and enjoying the game very much. Thank you for the response from the developers. I’m excited to see where the game goes from here.

An outstanding game that continues to improve!
I am very happy with this game. The Devs are working diligently to improve this game every major patch. In my opinion, to many players look for the perfect game for themselves. The amount of time and effort to make a quality game is difficult and time consuming. I applaud the Devs that stride to do the best they can despite the annoying selfish, and ungrateful peanut gallery’s whining comments. This game can be played totally free which is nice. The graphics are awesome and stunning to look at. The game is really fun to play as well. Try it out, if you don’t like it, delete it and move on to another game that fits your play style and personality; no need to leave disparaging remarks.

Tremendous Potential
The game was released about 6 months too early, so lots of crashes currently, spinning wheel forcing a restart when trying to communicate with server, and very limited activity list (very repetitive grind with few upgrade options). Seems to be a dedicated dev team though, so I have high expectations for the future. The nice thing about this game is that it gives players a chance to get away from the toxicity found in nearly 100% of mobile games. It’s PVE and co-op with no base defense. Players are helpful and will frequently announce mining ops in systems, which make it easier to defend your weak mining ships through combined firepower. Fantastic concept for a game, and very little pay to win. I spent about $60 on the game so far and I don’t regret it at all. Purchases are generous and small in nature ($1.99 / $2.99), and they are restricted by either day (daily) or weekly limits. That is a solid mechanic that helps force players to engage in the game and not simply buy their way ahead. I see good things coming to this game in the substantial, nearly monthly updates as long as the devs continue on the same path.

Great and excited to keep playing… but bugs
I wish I could give this 5 stars, but it keeps crashing. I love homeworld stuff, and I love that the ships and voice lines are similar to the pc games, but it keeps crashing and I currently can’t play

Update: Thanks so much for the devs responding to my review and for continuing to work on the game. A lot of the bugs are getting addressed and chat now works which is great. I still experience crashes often, but they are less frequent. Some things I think are vital to fix are unit responses. Resource controllers seem to work well. But the targeting of other units is very odd. I often can’t focus fire on a target like I’m wanting to as my ships quickly overwrite that command and started attacking whatever seems to be closest. Also while in a fight moving your ship can be buggy as it seems to overwrite the move command and again just attack a random target nearby. But I can tell y’all are working on the game so I raised the review to 4 stars. This mobile game is getting me more excited for the next console homeworld release!

Graphics look great. Plays like a stripped down version of the original Homeworld. I think I was hoping for something more like that original. For a mobile shared environment, there is very limited player interactions which mostly boil down to cooperatively beating down enemy ships while mining. The straw that broke the camel’s back, however, was all the time and resources I spent into building a battle cruiser, only to have it suddenly disappear directly after pushing the collect button. After that I spent more than two weeks attempting to meet the goals set for the next tier, but without the promised battle cruiser and suffering the loss of all of the resources spent on it, the game isn’t worth playing (or paying.) Add to that the somewhat toxic community in chat and non-existent community in gameplay, it just feels like a big waste of time. Pity, since I still love the original Homeworld… too bad we can’t have that on a mobile platform.

Most enjoyable free experience
The game itself is a terrible grind. There is progression however slowly. I wish there was more stuff along the way to keep you baited. And thats not to say that there isn’t. Its just very far between. I was lvl 9 when i asked the community via chat when i could upgrade cannons on my main vessel. I can’t recall exactly when it was 12-15 in that area and for the casual gamer that was a eternity. Then the resources. The star systems. The weapons type and slot with much or any explanation. Requisition and its lvl and now place to see what yours is and its draggin progress. Overall this sound’s negative. The game itself however is very enjoyable despite that routine. It is however spread out on a table simple and just spread out over to much bread to make it “more”. Again though i mist stress as far as a free experience goes. Its up there.

Our Home Is Our World, Our Life
Good game: artwork, music, sound.

Good community: no PvP so everyone behaves themselves and helps one another.

It looks and sounds like RTS Homeworld, but it isn’t. It feels like a standard grinding freemium game disguised as a space combat RPG with a Homeworld paintjob. It’s not bad at all, but it isn’t what an OG Homeworld player might be expecting. I’m an OG Homeworld player, but I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Homeworld Mobile. Also you don’t need to spend real money to have fun, but it might help, of course. I haven’t (yet) but still having a nice time, though I’m used to grinding and waiting for sometimes days for an item to fabricate so I can move on and level up.

If it weren’t for the frequent crashes, I’d be in the game longer. But thankfully the game crashes frequently so I’m not in the game longer. 🤣

What’s very cool is the community. When I started out at Tier Zero, players in Tier 3 would announce "hey, ima grind Tier One ore if anyone needs cover" in global chat, and they'd protect me and other low tier players from the too-frequently spawning bad guys. Now that I'm T2 I’m paying it forward covering lower tier players as we grind for resources. It’s fun!

Fun game, but constantly boots off
I’m really enjoying the game so far. Fleet mechanics are easy to learn , but not overly easy as to make the game boring. Being able to fabricate the smaller ships within your command ship really allows the game play to continue, even on missions of your quick enough! My major problem with the game is that I am constantly being booted off (iPad Air, 4th generation)! It’s just annoying if your in station, but If your in the middle of a mission, it resets the mission every time. I can see this being a major issue in higher levels, to the point that I won’t want to keep playing if it continues. I hope it is fixed and I can change my rating because it’s a really fun game so far.

Great graphics, horrible to play
I played two of the Homeworld games on PC years ago. They would first walk you through the interface and “teach” you how to play, so you could enjoy the game. This mobile version completely falls down in that area. You just start playing with no idea what your doing or why or how to use the interface. Also, everything is so small and you can zoom in to see what’s happening. It’s awful. Completely takes the enjoyment out of it. If the spent a fraction on the time on making sure new players could successfully learn and play the game as they did on the graphics or cinematics, this game would be far more enjoyable. I couldn’t even figure out how to pause, save and exit the game. I may try it again at some point. I play games to have fun, not to be frustrated and lost.

Looks great, nearly unplayable.
The number of bugs makes this game very frustrating. All new apps have bugs, but this is extreme. Chat works 1 out of 20 logins. Raiding stalls out, 99 notifications of every indicator. Some upgrades don’t register, some mission completion doesn’t register. It’s like playing the lottery if a feature is going to work or not. As a big fan of Homeworld going all the way back to the original, I was really looking forward to this. To borrow the phrase, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Update: Got a response to this review saying quests have been improved as should progress without major issues.

Sadly, this has proven not to be the case.

Logged back in to do some liaison missions and take advantage of the 2x XP weekend. Went like this. Some liaison missions were not acceptable. Of those that were, some didn’t show as complete after the mission complete screen showed. Of those that did, some wouldn’t give rewards after clicking the button.

It’s like a stack of sieves and at the bottom only some missions are fully completable.

This game is horribly broken, and a shameful black mark on one of the greatest game series ever.
