Description

I GOT THIS, created by UC Berkeley’s The Lawrence Hall of Science, is an interactive, first-person, educational story that follows a young teenage girl who discovers that she has type 2 diabetes, one of the fastest growing diseases in the US and around the world. Told in a real-world setting, I GOT THIS focuses on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and social aspects of the life-changing disease. I GOT THIS was created with funding from the National Institutes of Health, in collaboration with the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, and using advice from curriculum developers at the Hall and Tufts University.

carmalita spats,
Wish there were more stories!!
I think it’s a great app! It’s so important to bring light to subjects such as diabetes. However, I wish there were MORE stories on there. It’s a bit weird that there’s only one story. And as a result, I no longer have the app since I have finished the story.
Preston Logan,
What the flip is with you haters!
Before I start my actual review, I want to point out some reviews. "This is racist" How is it racist? It doesn't have a big role in the story! "You're fat" Uh... no. And if you hope everyone reading that dies, News Flash: EVERYONE DIES. What a groundbreaking discovery! (sarcasm) This game is too short. Yeah, it is short, but do you think everyone playing this informative game would want to see completely random sit-ups if they are using it for homeschool? You would answer no. Anyway, now onto the real review. This app is great, I like the story line. This app is great!

Fun and Informative
While it's not the longest game (I just played through the whole thing in twenty minutes), "I Got This" is a good starting point for educating kids about Diabetes. With fun, retro graphics and music, and a relatable main character, the app tells an interesting and entertaining story that all ages can take something away from. It's not an exhaustive source of information that explores every possible cause of Diabetes; rather it's a well-made tool to spread basic awareness about an increasingly widespread disease. Well done to the creators for this unique idea.
DJRockyRose,
Eh, I've seen better.
It isn't all that interactive, because you can barely control the decisions made. Like "I have to get to the bus, and I can take a pancake or a doughnut. I can take the doughnut with me, so I'll have that!" But you can take a pancake with you... Or, "I need energy. Im gonna grab a soda." But why soda? How about REAL, not sugary, food! Like fruit, or granola, or anything else! I found that you couldn't really control the person's decisions, and only after they found out that they had diabetes did the mother and her child stop eating so badly.

Not accurate
Undiagnosed diabetics go into DKA or diabetic keto acidosis, this causes the frequent urination and weight loss not gain. Unhealthy lifestyles and being overweight are not big factors of type 2, or any diabetes, they are definitely not helpful, but not causes. Hailey Berry has Type 2 and she is definitely not overweight. I quit the game outta frustration. I have two T1 kids which is what is typically seen in such early diagnosis, and not because they ate pizza and lots of soda to wash it down with. They is so stereotypical it's insulting. I was hoping to see a truly educational game. I'm sadly disappointed.
Diabetic girl!,
Represents us!
Hello! My name is Katie Holes. This game totally ROCKS! I am a girl I think about Emily’s age and I also have type 2 diabetes. Mine is more severe because every day I inject myself with insulin. This was super cool for me. I really appreciate you guys making this to give people insight to see who us type 2 kids!
ChibiWorks,
Beautiful! <3
I just found this app and I have to say it was the coolest thing ever! I want to be a nurse in the future, so stuff like this always piques my interest. It also taught me a thing or two about diabetes. I’m so glad you guys made this! :)

Educational & interesting
Great game that makes me want to pay attention to my health more, also loved the diversity in the game (we really need more poc representation in games, so thank you! Overall very educational & fun to play along.
Great song.,
Great and informative
Not only was this fun, it was informative. More games should be made like this to inform kids of health. It is educational and fun. Very nice. Th graphics were nice. It was somewhat like an 8-bit quality.
Blank789,
Well...
The story really isn’t that interactive because the game has no real choices. The graphics are also kind of creepy.
However, it is a fun game to play through, but it is the type of game you would only play once, and it takes maybe 10 minutes.
It is not as accurate/informative as I would like.
