Justin694,
Few minor fixes, otherwise great!
I’ve been on InPen for a little over a year now, coming from a pump after my last DKA episode. Love this app for the most part, but there’s just a couple things I’d like to see changed. As another reviewer stated, being able to retroactively enter blood sugars would be great. The only other thing I’d like to see is a slight tweak to the BG reminder. I love having that because it ensures I check more frequently, but say for example I look at the app and it’s been 1h 50m since my last injection. I go ahead and test, put that in the app, and do what it says. Why does the 2 hour reminder still show up 10 minutes later? If I check my blood sugar and put it in the app, that should cancel out. Other than that, great app, keeps me more on top of my levels than I’ve been in years, even during my 15 years on a pump!
jon78ray,
Multiple replacements all defective pen caps!
I’ve had 3 pens with issues with the pen caps either coming loose, breakage of the clip or completely falling off. I’ve almost lost a full cartridge of insulin on many occasions. I can’t carry my InPen with me in my pocket. It’s not secure. I’ve been using this pen for years now and I love everything about it and the app! Except for the cap! It doesn’t stay on!!! Unacceptable. I’ve grown to be completely frustrated with your product. And unfortunately it’s enough of a safety and reliability issue that I can no longer proceed with using your product. Furthermore, when I called today for a replacement cap, your representative would t help me. I explained my issue and instead of listening to my concerns he was asking for irrelevant personal information like my weight and my middle name. Obscene. And quite frankly disgusting and offensive! What is going on with your organization?!? I simply want a pen with a secure cap and some respect when calling and speaking with one of your representatives. I’ve received neither one. Shame!
CMO2013,
Hmm update? Why would you go backwards?
Can’t put in accurate information and so not user friendly anymore! I’m just wonder if you can say update when it gets harder to use and becomes a more overwhelming home screen. Instead of a clear breakdown of information there is now an ity bity chart with too much going on that doesn’t clearly show the info. I used to be able to get the info in a glance but now I have to pull out a magnifying glass to see where a number may be on a tiny chart. And now the last BG is not clearly displayed at all on the home screen. I have to go hunting for it in your scroll at the bottom. Not to mention I should be able to put the correct dose in for my sons Basaglar, but your app won’t let me. I can’t understand why something so simple should be so hard. To go from user friendly home screen to this and not being able to put in accurate information almost makes it not worth it. The idea of this is brilliant and I was hoping to love it. I’m sad that this app has gotten worse.
BFftz,
Has a dangerous glitch
I love the idea of this pen and really appreciate the ability to dose half units. However, just over a week into using the pen I’ve noticed an issue that could be a huge health and safety risk. Several times after dosing my insulin, the app has recorded a dose half to a full unit less than I’ve actually taken. I thought it was my own error in the past, but when it happened for the third time this morning I triple checked my dinner dose tonight.

It advised me to take 2.5 units. I primed a half unit and recorded it as a prime. Then I drew up 2.5 units, triple checked it, and paid attention when I delivered the dose to ensure I heard five clicks. Done.

When the app recorded the dose immediately afterward, it read 1.5 units as the IOB. This is NOT acceptable because normally I would’ve taken another unit thinking I made a mistake. And I would’ve ended up with a sudden and terrible low. Please fix this glitch before it causes a serious emergency for someone!
ChrisGurn,
Huge help in logging doses
We’ve been using the product and app for about 6 months now. When we switched from a simple injector, I didn’t see the need. But it became clear the value pretty quickly.
Seeing the history of when an injection happens is huge when you have two parents and a school nurse that give injections. Watching the estimate of insulin on board is very helpful. Relying on the app to do our calculations which take into account insulin on board is important.
Insulin pumps aren’t for everyone. Having the option of a smart injector is huge. Regular syringes have a larger gauge. Our daughter thinks nothing of getting injections with the InPen.
And no site changes!
Features I’d like are integrations with CGMs, but the biggest would be a follower app. That way parents can see say when the nurse gives insulin to cover highs and exactly when they do.
ModFamily,
Love InPEN!!!
Great assistance with management of IOB and logging in amounts of insulin taken. Being able to inject a half unit is a huge benefit. My endocrinologist loves the data it provides. I love not having to write down all the info daily. It has definitely helped me to NOT STACK insulin doses which can definitely be problematic since I take multiple daily injections, as needed. It was very easy to begin using it. The Ap is easy to read and use. Lastly, the reminders for taking my twice daily basal insulin keeps me from missing doses (probably multiple times a week!!) it just takes the burden of having to remember that OFF MY BACK.
#INSULIN4ALL,
InPen is Amazing, but…
New bug found since latest version: “Report Error” occurs when attempting to generate new report.

As of OCTOBER 2022 — There is currently no iOS 16 widget available for InPen, when will this be fixed? ——— It badly need an update! — InPen Feature Requests: 👉🏻Siri prebolus 👉🏻Siri IOB 👉🏻“Long press” Home Screen icon to choose basal dosing contextual menu or to go to calculator 👉🏻”Estimated” units left in cartridge 👉🏻Tap to see previous recommendation calculations in logbook 👉🏻Suggested ratio changes based on insights to improve dosing accuracy 👉🏻Sick Day Calculations for IC & ISF 👉🏻Improve UI 👉🏻Automatically pull in CGM data for “current glucose” (this is always blank for me) 👉🏻1/4 unit dosing 👉🏻dark mode 👉🏻ability to choose “system sounds” for alerts 👉🏻add haptic feedback from the pen when turning the dial to select a dose amount (bonus would be if it vibrated like your phone)
Ragebolus,
InPen is InCredible.
I started using the InPen and App last week. It is FANTASTIC!! Once I entered my therapy data, I started seeing information that I never saw before. The app is only going to get better, too. Good diabetes control requires knowing a lot of info. The App includes an online log book so I’ll know if I have myself a shot. I can also enter my blood sugar level whenever I want. The shots are AUTOMATICALLY entered and show in the home screen. It’s good now, and it’s going to get better. The App Store will have to add another star because the InPen App is already a 5. I’ve had Type 1 diabetes since 1984!!
Joclyn Gordon,
Doesn’t show current glucose level.
So far, so good. I’ve been using the InPen for a few days now and I like it. I cannot figure out how to get the app to show my current glucose level, however. I have it all synched up with my Dexcom G6 app as well as with the Clarity app, but for current glucose I just get a “—-“ Sure, I can just click back and forth between Dexcom and InPen, but, y’know, that’s a lot of work.
I love that I don’t have to remember how much insulin I’ve taken. I usually do, but this is a good just in case kind of thing.
TOPW_QOH,
Not Great As an Overall Diabetes Management App
Most of the time insulin doses are automatically transferred to my phone. Sometimes it takes awhile though. When I allow it to read glucose data from Apple Health the it is almost always duplicated. When I allow it to read carb data and go to calculate my insulin dose the carb data is not there. Instead, I must enter my carbs myself to get my insulin dose; however, after doing so I now have duplicate carb entries. I have disabled and reenabled the app from reading glucose and carb data many times to no avail. My logbook is a waste of junk with all the duplicate glucose and carbs. Please fix this immediately!
