Description

A painting app for all artists, whether you’re experienced or just starting out.
Perfect for creating beautiful works of art or a quick sketch whenever and wherever you have a burst of inspiration.
You can also try out ideas and compositions before starting on a new painting in real life, or practise and refine your skills, all without the added cost of art supplies.

• LIFELIKE PASTEL SIMULATION •
The app features live-calculated brushes and strokes, making a realistic pastel simulation possible.
Painting tools include soft pastels, oil pastels, pastel pencils, smudge tool, and more.

• REALISTIC PAPER/CANVAS TEXTURES •
When creating a new picture, a unique, non-repeating paper texture is generated that will interact in real-time with the live-calculated strokes you paint.
You can change the default-generated texture to, for example, canvas, which goes great with oil pastels!

• PRECISE COLOR BLENDING •
When painting, especially with soft pastels, use Smudge or the Cotton Swab to blend and smoothen the colors right on the paper, as you would in real life.
With oil pastels, in addition to smudging, the blending is often done by the pastel sticks themselves (for best results, reduce the force or use a similar or lighter color).
If you use an Apple Pencil, it will feel incredibly realistic if you use the stylus to draw and use your finger to Smudge (assigned as a 2nd tool)!

• FINGERTIP = STROKE SIZE •
When you paint, the app measures how much of your finger is touching the screen and changes the stroke size accordingly.
Apply just the corner of your fingertip for a thin line, or the whole fingerprint area for a broad stroke.
A 2nd tool assigned to your finger will still use this feature, so don’t ignore it just because you have an Apple Pencil!

• LEFT-HANDED? •
Just swipe the toolbar over to the other side!

• PARAMETERS CAN BE CHANGED LIVE •
Use any buttons or controls to change/adjust color, size, force, simultaneously while painting.

• UNIVERSAL PURCHASE •
If you choose to buy the Pro upgrade, this one-time in-app purchase will unlock all Pro features in the app on all available platforms (iPad-iPhone-Mac)!

• METAL •
The engine is based on Metal, with 128-bit color and floating-point arithmetic.

• SWIFT •
The app was developed entirely using Swift (earlier versions used C++).

• APPLE PENCIL SUPPORT • FULL SCREEN PAINTING • SEAMLESS PATTERN EDITING MODE •
• DARK MODE • LANDSCAPE • PORTRAIT • WIDE COLOR •
• MULTIPLE LAYERS • PHOTO TRACING MODE (Pro feature) •

When I first got this app it was really fun I made something and it was really cute and then it got hard making more cute stuff because I watch me more cute stuff that were even cuter it’s easy to make the first thing then it is to make the other stuff because if you make some things that’s cool and cute it’s gonna be hard but if you like make a color mixed together and you had sunglasses and cat ears it’s really hard so just make the cool stuff Wall it easy because then you’re not gonna be able to do it
SketcherDoug,
It’s A Great App!
I’ve always enjoyed sketching even though I’m not good at drawing. I usually use markers and colored pencils. I’ve been looking for a digital sketching / drawing / painting program or app for quite a while... tried some and ended up not using them. I found iPastels and it’s the app I’ve been looking for. It’s easy to understand the tools and options. The price is a bargain even for the upgrade to the pro version. This is my go to sketching app. Give it a try and iPastels will be your go to app as well.
McDbeginner,
Great feel and love the layout!
Pastels are my favorite hands on medium...however, the dust bothers my eyes. This app is the closest thing to the real thing and NO DUST! I quickly upgraded to the Pro version...it is very good.

I love the new layer feature layout with toggles and tracing too! The mountain, house, flower icons are brilliant. I also love and use the color feature that shows the complement of a selected color in the drop down menu; makes a painting pop!

Thank you for the loving attention you've put into it. :)
Msjdepon,
Awesome App!
Very intuitive, haven’t used pastels in over 45 years since I was a teen. Which, I was concerned of at the time due to the possibility of inhaling some of the inevitable pigment dust. As soon as tried the free app I instantly did a portrait of my beautiful Havanese dog. Took me all of five minutes from download to finishing his beautiful, long silky hair and big brown eyes! Felt like the real thing on my iPad Pro with the paper like grit feel of pastel paper. Highly recommend this App!
V viper,
This is better
I was upset about the sliders because I’m dyspraxic and over flexible and my fingers bend backwards and my wrist twists too easily and I thought I’d rather have restricted size options than have to be so careful or so injured I couldn’t consentrate on the drawing but the size changing based on the size of finger or amount of area touched by any tool that can be used like a stylus rather than pressure is kinda brilliant for anyone who’s wanted to mix the lack of pressure necessary for watercolors with the fun of crayons/ the accessibility of ios.
mmmaxie,
Easy learning curve
Simplicity is wonderful. This app allowed me to load it and immediately start making art. The creative choices....size of stroke, blur, delete, colors....are simple and allow multiple dozens of options to fine tune your parameters before you make a stroke. I used a pencil with a capacitive tip, as I found my finger was too large to control placement of colors. Recommend.
Megan Hyejin,
Wonderful app! One suggestion
This app is wonderful and I am planning to use it professionally! Already purchased a pro version and love it! One thing I want is that select, cut and move. When I import my drawing I can’t move it to where I want it to be. If the developer sees this review, could you please add this function? Thank you very much!
mk whatever,
Dream is complete
For theese pass weeks I’ve been googling what is good for what I’ve been needing and I found this app I got it my first drawing was the best but there is a small fix and now doesn’t bother its the new pic but it’s easy now that I understand the words once I got to know the tools and now I’m LOVIN IT!! It’s good for drawers who want to draw easy thx for this app
Etmetallurgist,
Wonderful colors to draw your imagination
Ive tried real pastels and they are messy and expensive. This app is just the same experience but with out the mess and expense. I like to download painting im working on. I can add items or change colors so i know what looks best on the paintings before i ruin it
Ngal,
Realistic look, feel and controls
One of the best art applications I’ve used. This gives you enormous control over your drawing without being overly complicated. Very realistic application of both oil and chalk pastels without the mess!
