Description

*iPractice Verbs was featured at Macworld.com Magazine in 2011.
**iPractice Verbs was amongst the top 200 Educational iPad apps on iTunes in September, 2011.

iPractice Verbs is an app developed to help children learn and practice basic English verbs in a variety of levels (word, phrase, sentence) and tense forms (present, present progressive & past tense). iPractice Verbs was designed by a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist to serve as a tool for children with language delays and as a tool for children and adults learning English as a second language. iPractice Verbs is very intuitive to use and it is compatible with the Therapy Report Center ( A FREE caseload management application).

iPractice Verbs allows for multiplayer activities and it contains two activities: Flashcard & Find it. This app contains over 158 regular & irregular verbs in the present, present progressive, and past tense with corresponding high quality images and audio (totaling to over 1000 stimuli). Practicing verbs and verb tenses has never been so easy or intuitive.

iPractice Verbs also allows for practice at different levels: word, phrase, and sentence levels with the flexibility to select which verbs are to be practiced. There are two modes on iPractice verbs: “Flashcards” and “Find it”.

The primary purpose of “Flashcards” is to practice learning the verbs at the word, phrase or sentence level.

“Find it” on the other hand, is a multiple choice game for selecting corresponding images. When playing practice Verbs on Find it mode, children must select the correct corresponding image in order to advance to the next word/phrase/sentence. If the incorrect image is selected the choices are narrowed and the student is encouraged to “try again”; this way we maximize student success and learning. The "find it" activity was designed to help students practice the techniques of listening in a variety of situations (e.g., focusing attention, reflecting, interpreting, analyzing, responding to messages).

iPractice Verbs also includes two features that will keep students motivated: a built-in reward system that give student cards as they practice and a certificate of mastery.

Practicing verbs is a standard for children from Kindergarten through third grade (Texas State Standard). iPractice Verbs contains verbs at the word, phrase and sentence levels and it can be used with children to gain/increase of "grammar when speaking such as using subject-verb agreement, complete sentences, and correct tense" (Texas State Standard). Practicing verbs and using correct verb tense is a state standard for all grade levels in Virginia (Language Arts SOLS K.2, 1.2, 2.1, 3.2, 3,11, 4.8, 5.9, 6.7, 7.9, 8.8, 9.7, 10.8, and 11.8). Using a developmentally appropriate vocabulary including verbs and verb tenses is a North Dakota Standard of Learning for Kindergarten through fifth grade (Language Arts: K.4.1, 1.6.2, 2.6.2, 3.6.3, 4.6.3, 5.6.3). Using correct grammar in writing is a North Dakota Standard of Learning for sixth through ninth grade (Language Arts: 6.3.10, 7.3.9, 8.3.11, 9.6.2, 9.3.10).

IPractice verbs
The pictures on this app are quite nice...for the present tense. unfortunately they do not depict the past tense well In addition, it would have been nice to have different pics to show the past the past tense...this is confusing to my students.

My students and I are really bothered by the "duck voice" at the start of the app. It's an annoying voice. In fact I know folks who have not purchased this app because of this voice.

For present tense verbs, this app is fine and there are many verbs from which to choose.

Verb app
This a great app to work on verbs. I like that you can do flash cards or find it. The flash cards lets you hear all three tense forms in words, phrases or sentences. In Find it you can find one or all three forms in a field of four pics. I think there should be a next button on the Find it section. I would review some of the pics chosen as there are some that I feel could be better represented. Two that I think could use immediate changes would be choke and touch and instead use something along the lines of someone holding throat for choke and someone touching a flower or other object. Overall, I like the app but it would really be amazing if you had pics to represent each tense form. That kind of visual would be so helpful to the kids we work with. But I do understand that is a huge undertaking, but still something to consider over time. It would most likely be accomplished with professional pics or artwork instead of stock photos.

I love the simplicity of this app. It targets what I need it to while motivating my kiddos at the same time simply because it's on an iPad. It's great that I can choose exactly which verbs I want to target so it works for my entire caseload. Would definitely recommend this for your speech app arsenal!

Great verb app
The app is great to work past, present, future verbs. I like how I can choose which ones to target. The kids enjoy collecting the "monster cards". I wish I had the option to turn off the words at bottom for students that can read.
Shrze,
Love this app
Great for on the go therapy. Love how it tracks data! Also appreciate how it can adapt to the needs of each student by being able to manipulate the target present progressive, pat tense etc.

I love using this app when targeting various verb tenses in my speech therapy sessions! It is very engaging for students and they ask to use this app all the time!

I have been looking for something to use with my students for verbs. I really like how it can be used at the word level. That is where I find my students are lacking the most and they really like the idea of shaking the IPad.

I purchased this app quite awhile ago and immediately noticed that it listed irregular verbs in the regular verb column. I contacted the developers and they said they would fix it on their next update. That was several months ago and nothing has changed. It has a select/deselect button so that I can avoid irregular verbs when I only want to work on regular verbs, but they continue to show up even though I did not select them. This is one of the more expensive apps I've purchased and I'm disappointed in the quality of it.
Sp lang path,
Disappointing
I am extremely disappointed with this application. Many of the photographs are not appropriate for children (i.e. A pregnant lady holding her naked belly to demonstrate the verb "hold", a guy pulling his own tie up to show the verb "choke"). Also, many of the pictures are not accurate depictions of the verb (i.e. Hot air balloons pictured for the verb "fly"). One additional complaint is that the photos appear randomly, making it impossible to control what I teach. I cannot use iverbs. Do Not Buy This App!
School SLP- JC,
Great!
The real life photos are wonderful! I like that I can record data as well. Having the phrase option is useful if a student can't use the verb in a phrase themselves. In the future I would like to see the verbs categorized in a menu.
