RIntensive was developed as a result of “intensive” requests made by our Speech Therapists. Smarty Ears is aware of the high incidence of students seen for their difficulties with /r/.
Fully redesigned since it’s initial release, R-intensive is the most engaging, and comprehensive go-to application for children who need a tool for practicing the production of the phoneme /r/ at the word, phrase, and sentence level. R Intensive contains 3 exciting activities:
1.Flashcards: Allows practice of the r at the word, phrase, and sentence levels. Multiplayer mode supports 1-4 players with individual targets for each student.
2.Matching game: 4x5 rows of cards (20 card decks) make working on your favorite type of R a skill of memory and articulation. Supports 1-4 players per game.
3.Guess What game: students will have fun guessing which R word is described, while at the same time practicing their articulation. If the description clue is ever too difficult simply tap on the hidden image to reveal the answer. Supports 1-4 players.
R Intensive SLP uses a phonetic approach to teaching the “r” sound by creating subgroups that will hopefully make your student more successful in therapy. We have divided the /r/ phoneme at the word level as follows:

Great App for R
I love that this app has all of the r variations at different levels and with different activities. It is a great addition to my treatment activities and the kids love it!

Great for older students
I love using this app with my upper elementary and middle school students. It has a lot of words and I’m able to select what type of vocalic art I want to use with my students. I enjoy how it’s multiplayer, it keeps track of data, and I can choose the different levels of the target word.

Easy to use
I love to use this app as a companion to a game or other activity in therapy. I love that it groups the various /r/ sounds and doesn't lump them all together as a lot of activities do. The kids love using the iPad and will work to be able to use any of these apps. Thanks again smarty ears!

Great stimulus
One of the toughest parts of preparing for speech therapy is coming up with stimulus words to target. This app takes all the hard work away. The app is great and easy to use. I’ve never had an issue with the functionality.

Still has glitches
The app is currently crashing when you try to sync with Therapy Report Center. They have never fixed the matching game (during group play the turns are set so a player turns over a card and another player looks for the match).

So helpful when working on /r/
I love that this app breaks down /r/ into its variants do you can work on a sound individually in all positions of words! I use these app the most when working on /r/!

Great app
I think this is a great app! It breaks down each individual R sound at the word, phrase or sentence level. The pictures are good and the kids enjoy this app. It's easy to use this app for multiple kids and the like that their picture is on the screen. Data tracking is easy and you can pull it up at any time. It's a great app and worth the money. It would be nice to be able to record and playback their productions… maybe in an upgrade? :) It's a great app and worth the money.

Great App for /r/
My students really enjoy this app. It covers all the /r/ sounds and works well for students at all levels of production. Love the "guess what " game,as it is different from what you get in most articulation apps. My only complaint is that you can't take data in the matching game portion of the app.

Great resource for the R!
My speech students love to use this to break up the monotony of drill therapy. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I like that it addresses the r in all word positions as well as different levels (isolation, word level, etc.). I also like that it is compatible with the Therapy Report Center for data collection. The only thing I'd like added is the ability to record the student's productions.

Buyer beware
This app has several pictures that may offend or scare kids. One word is vampire accompanied by a scary looking lady with black lips and a low cut dress. Escort has a picture of a convict being escorted by a police man. It is not possible to pick specific vocabulary so if you use /or/ or /ire/ you are stuck with the pictures.
This app is also awkward to use. You have to score before moving to the next word. You can't back up. You can't pick sound positions within words.
Artici pix has almost as many /r/ and is easier to use. You also get other sounds with artic pix.
